I'll miss that, 'one in the hole' gif.

Anyway, not surprising he's been sacked after yesterday's spanking.

Joke of a decision when you consider who they can actually get in to replace him.

Should of been given till the end of the season at least.

Feel for Mick but Wolves look in danger - much as last season - and with two of the promoted teams staying away from trouble they looked in danger of not surviving the fight. That said, Wigan and Bolton are in far worse trouble. Blackburn at least score a lot of goals.

McCarthy is a decent manager and likely to get another Championship team up if you ask me.

Worst thing about it is an LMA idiot is gonna get the job. I fancy McLeish,he'll be gone in a week or two.

I agree with this. I think had Wolves won and West Brom lost at the weekend, West Brom could have been dragged into the relegation scrap. But for now it looks like there are only five teams in the mix: Wolves, QPR, Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn. I think this season at least one club could be relegated on goals difference. You only had to see how Blackburn this weekend were out of the relegation zone at half-time against QPR, only to drop back down after conceding twice in the second half. Wolves are now in the relegation zone because they conceded five at the weekend. They aren't defensively the best and lose too many games at home.

I actually quite like Mick McCarthy, straight talking . Never going to be a great manager but will do a job for some clubs  .

Boyhood Leeds fan so could end up there. His championship track record is good with a couple of promotions with Sunderland & Wolves.

Can see why Wolves have sacked him but thought he'd get till end of season at least

Yeah, a limited manager, but one who knows how to get a team promoted from the Championship. He'll get work.

Quite like Mick to be honest. One of few in the game that has grown on me instead of wanting to bash his skull in.

But, quite predictably this will no doubt happen.

@RorySmithTimes Rory Smith
Good to see Steve Bruce+Alan Curbishley favourites to replace McCarthy at Wolves. Young English managers need chance to prove themselves.

Alan Curbishley is nearly 55. I'd hardly call that young (in football management terms)

Mick McCarthy has a poor record in the Premier League, a win % of only 16%, and I think by now Wolves expected that they'd have established themselves rather than facing another relegation battle. They've spent a bit of money as well.

Their recent form is terrible, especially at home, and  they had 7 points from the first three matches so it's not as if they've been playing catch-up.

I think the Wolves owner has been very patient.

I hope Bruce doesn't get it, the job Martin O' Neill has done at Sunderland has shown what a shite manager he is.

Here's one for you - Roberto Di Matteo. I think he did well at WBA and was rashly sacked, and might want to get himself out of that mess at Chelsea.

Also I think this will be the end of club management, look for him popping up as manager of Finland or something. Pity the Northern Ireland job has gone, although Michael O' Neill deserves a crack at that.

Old Mick will find work, I am not surprised by his sacking in the least, who Wolves will be bringing is the question.

If they go down, I could see them having some difficulty coming straight back up. Doyle, Jarvis and Fletcher will be quickly picked off. Milijas  and Hunt will probably exit and perhaps O'Hara or Hennessey as well.

Rory Smith was quite obviously taking the piss, but still spot on. The sad thing about Mick getting sacked is that Wolves won't find a young, up and coming manager and give him the support and financial backing to build something. They will jump on the "safe" option, go for someone who will be taking over his 9th club in the premiership, having relegated 6 of them, if they manage to stay up buy overpriced, average English players and continue the endless cycle of mediocrity otherwise known as "The English mentality"

Say what you like about Mick, but he's one of the good guys. I'm sure he'll pick u ap Championship club easy, Id even take him back at Ireland if Trap went, we played by far our best football under Mick. This is well worth a watch, some very funny moments and shows that the league lost probably its only media honest manager.

Of course. Management in England is all about being in the selective boys club. If you are in it, you benefit. You put forth some information and you get good press no matter how awful you are. If you aren't in it, especially if you are a foreigner, never played for a big club or a provincial type, you'll receive a completely different brand of treatment, as the likes of Rafa, Villas-Boas and in recent times Wenger have felt.

I continue to be amazed by how slow football is to learn anything.  Managers are no different to players in that you need different ones (with different qualities and styles) at different levels of football.

If you are a talented squad that is looking for promotion out of the Championship, you need someone who can keep the pressure off of a group of players who haven't been in that situation before.  You need to be able to score a lot of goals in a league that is very unstructured in its football.  Someone like McCarthy can do that, as can Warnock, etc.

Once you've been promoted, you are now at the other (bottom) end of a bigger food chain.  Now you need to be organised, defend like mad, and create a few chances from which you win your points.  You play every game like you are away to Liverpool, irrespective of the venue or the opponent.  For this, you need to sack the manager who got you promoted and replace him with a manager who is more organised, less about the flair - someone like Hodgson or Allardyce.

Again, if you move up from annual relegation battles, then you need to find a manager who can attract a few decent players, and can turn weak players into average ones.  The style of play is still, on balance, defensive but there will be more games in which you are the favourite and need to be able to attack.  So you need to sack the manager who got you here, and go after someone like O'Neill, Moyes, etc.

If you actually break through that, then you again need to sack that manager and move to one who can organise a team to consistently attack and win games even when you are favoured.

I know that football doesn't necessarily always fall into those stratas, but it isn't far off.  And yet we still get teams giving the manager who got them promoted contract extensions, etc etc.  Different managers for different situations - no different to players.  That's my two cents, anyway.

Totally agree
It's Gerrrraaaaaaarddddddddd......You beautyyyyy!
