Computer game soundtracks
« on: October 4, 2011, 10:27:22 pm »
After recently playing inFamous 2, I've realised that there is some great music on that game and am looking for the soundtrack at present.

Does anyone listen to or have any computer game soundtracks in their music collections? Getting past the idea of it being quite geeky, there are some great soundtracks out there and it's not all that different from having movie soundtracks, in my opinion.

Phew, glad I'm not the only one.

Final Fantasy X is one I have, as well as VII and IX. The Gears of War soundtrack is quite good and I may have to give the MGS one a go.

Nintendo games have good soundtracks, despite the association with kiddy games. Stuff like Zelda, Mario and Metroid always have good music.

The Castlevania games also have some good tracks, Konami have some talented people. Metal Gear Solid games have epic background songs. Chrono Trigger, despite being a 16 bit game, had some beautiful music. Ikaruga, Okami and the Persona series all are relatively unknown but well done.

Also love the soundtracks from Uncharted, Resident Evil 4 and Street Fighter.

World of Goo (2009) had pretty ambient music that I'd still listen to.

There's nothing like rekindling some good old memories with something like this though for me.

Not particularly, no. I was just curious to see if others listen to gaming soundtracks too. I'm looking for inFamous 2's "good/blue" soundtrack as I've only got the "evil/red" one. If you're not familiar with the game it probably sounds like a bit of nonsense!

The Metroid games have some good music, you're right. They have the potential to be a lot better I think and I imagine they would be if it was on a Sony system.

Quick search didn't find a torrent with seeds for the blue ost, only played the first one but I know what you mean.

Not convinced the Metroid Prime soundtrack would be any better on another console:

There's a really good Final Fantasy Orchestra album floating around too called Distant Worlds.

Red Dead Redemption. The only game I've played to include tracks with lyrics. They were so fitting it's amazing. You get totally immersed in the game.

The unchatrted series uses music very well, too. Star Wars games, no matter how shit usually deliver in the music dept, although do get repetitive. I'm very much looking forward to the new Batman, as a soundtrack is being released, which suggests they have some top notch tunes.

As for something older, I always enjoyed Lemmings and Paper Boy.

Oh, I also liked the Grand Theft which had eighties tunes playing in the car. I forget which one it was.
