Only Tumbleweed drifting across the Gutter landscape since 20th December. Such restraint, and such small portions.

Get that arsenal lad on who compared Martinelli with Suarez.

Absolutely shite mate

Not sure if its the same guy on this week's Friday Show (Jim Johnson?) but he did not even know the basics before discussing the upcoming game (which players are gone to AFCON; how his own team are doing this season versus last season; squad rotation this season versus last season) - horrible listen.

I think it was Jordan who I was talking about praising Martinelli.

Was there a Christmas quiz show this year? Or did I misremember when the quizzes are? I know Neil has mentioned they take a lot of work to put together. So maybe tricky with the packed schedule.

Neil tries manfully every year with trying to make me believe that the FA Cup third round weekend is some kind of magical moment of notalgic wonder where football is great just like it used to be, rather than literally the most boring 32 games anyone could ever imagine. He hasn't convinced me yet, but fair fucks to him for trying.

All the shows after Newcastle game were great - the Pink, the Post Match Pint and the Weekend.

Ian Salmon doing my head in here on the free show. Going on about the pundits on MOTD. Someone ought to let him know that Konaté is not 22 at all, and will actually be 25 by the end of the season, so a pundit calling him “one of the senior players” yesterday - particularly given his partner at centre back was 20 - is a fair enough comment. Did find it amusing how he followed up his own inaccuracy with “Pay me to go on MOTD because at least I’ll give you some facts about the team”.

Was enjoying the Gutter, though there seems to be some misunderstanding regarding Mbappe's loyalty bonus.

"A loyalty bonus is an amount of money that a player usually collects at the end of his contract. Consider it as an additional incentive for the player to remain at the club rather than seeking a move elsewhere."

Meaning, Mbappe will likely receive both a healthy "signing on fee" from whoever ends up buying him, aswell as a crazy loyalty bonus for leaving "amicably" at the end of his contract.

Next seasons 36 team - Swiss System - Champions league group stage sound boss.
Hopefully we’re in it and get a decent seeding. The thought of 8 games and no dead rubbers is exciting. And will require a big squad.
We are hopefully going to be part of it.

I think a thing with The Review is sometimes the fact that the performances are 'samey' so themes remain. The 19/20 season was the biggest example of this when Liverpool game-managed their way to a title, holding opponents at arms length for a full season and doing enough each game. Weirdly, I thought last season was a more interesting season in terms of reviewing games, as things were so erratic and, at times, odd. Led to some intriguing analysis and theories.

The talking point was brilliant.

I'm a stats nerd before I'm a football stats nerd but on the whole I think Atko did a brilliant job explaining it in really clear terms. Using the Jones goal from Newcastle and Jota from Wolves was great too.

Reckon Atko could do a stint in my role (not that he'd want to) explaining to the higher ups why what they think they are seeing they actually aren't.

Even by Neil’s standards it was immense!
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
“Generosity always pays off. Generosity in your effort, in your work, in your kindness, in the way you look after people and take care of people. In the long run, if you are generous with a heart, and with humanity, it always pays off.”

I'm not getting my hopes up too much just yet (still just can't picture a scenario where City actually get what's coming to them), but yeah, it does seem more promising than in previous years.

I think the problem with the City charges is not that they broke the FFP/PSR rules, but they actively cheated to avoid breaking them. Inflated sponsorship deals, etc is so much harder to prove. With Everton and Forest it's more like honest incompetence, which is so much easier to prove and punish.

It all feels grossly unfair ... but I can understand the problems the league have in prosecuting City.
