I was about to try and solve this by asking if you've ever been present for a win, but that would have had to involve us actually winning a game... hmm.

Oh what the hell, go and recreate the travelling Kop together. But you'd better be audible. And I'll be wanting at least a detailed match report at the end of it all.

:missus Judging by their league position, I don't think Liverpool Ladies needed jinxing last season ;)

Edit - darn, should've refreshed the page before posting...

I'll have to wait and see what the fixture list brings. If I can do the 'Brizzle' game I'll make the trip down.

Liverpool Ladies making strides to dominate Merseyside

Since the FA Women’s Super League formed in 2011, two things have occurred in the opening campaigns - Arsenal Ladies have won the league, and Liverpool Ladies have won the wooden spoon.

It’s been a nightmare couple of seasons for the Merseysiders, who have won two of their 28 fixtures over the two WSL seasons, with a goal difference of -36.

It was always going to be tough for the Reds, who jumped from the Premier League North division (Third tier of English football) into the Super League, when applications were being taken for the newly formed semi-professional competition.

Liverpool, unlike rivals Everton Ladies, were very much a yo-yo club in the years leading up to the WSL, shifting between the Premier League North and National division.

But following a torrid couple of years and a change of manager midway through the second Super League campaign, there appears to be a sense of optimism within the red half of Merseyside that would suggest they will be anything but basement battlers next year.

New manager Matt Beard, who joined the club in August after leaving Chelsea a month earlier, made his intentions clear at the start of the off-season after releasing ten first team players from the club.

This included twins Vicky and Kelly Jones, who have subsequently joined neighbours Everton, and internationals Aroon Clancey (New Zealand) and Emily Gielnik (Australia).

What will be encouraging for Reds fans and neutrals, of which there are plenty, is the players Beard has worked hard to bring to the club.

US international Whitney Engen will become the first American to grace the English league after Liverpool acquired her services in October, bringing experience and qualities to a defence that has leaked more goals than anyone else in the league.

Engen began her Reds career alongside a new centre back partner in the shape of former Chelsea defender, Gemma Bonner. The 21-year-old England international was a key piece of the Blues’ puzzle last year, which saw them reach a dramatic FA Cup final – which they eventually lost on penalties to Birmingham Ladies.

Bonner is one of the most promising defenders in the country and, alongside Engen, will give solid protection in front of impressive young keeper, Sarah Quantrill, another Beard signing from Chelsea.

Undoubtedly Liverpool’s biggest transfer coup is one that even Brendan Rodgers would be envious of, and will also put a dent into a major rival’s plans. Last month, the Reds were able to raid their Merseyside neighbours in blue to swoop for trio Lucy Bronze, Tash Dowie and England star Fara Williams. Bronze, an England Under-23 international, and Dowie, niece of Ian Dowie and another with England caps, will both add much needed quality to what is at the moment a paper thin squad.

But it is the signing of Williams, one of England’s most coveted players, which had those in the women’s game taking notice of Liverpool’s ambitions.

Williams has over 100 caps for her country and has played in two World Cups – she was also Everton’s top scorer last season. The former Fulham midfielder admitted recently that her performances had “dipped” of late, and that she needed a new challenge. There is no doubt she is the signing that makes the biggest statement from Liverpool, but the fascinating thing is, there’s likely to be plenty more to come.

Just this week the Reds announced they had captured Sweden International Louise Fors, with the signing coming hot on the heels of Germany Under-20 international, Nicole Rolser, who was part of the recent German team that finished runners-up in this year’s Under-20 World Cup.

Liverpool are clearly fed up of propping up the league, and the signings they’ve made so far should ensure they aren’t down there again. With the investment injected into the Ladies squad, the club will no doubt be looking for a return that justifies the support shown to manager Beard, and with this, will come an expectation and some pressure.

However, don’t be surprised if we see Liverpool fighting at the right end of the table, and, maybe even challenge their blue rivals for bragging rights on Merseyside. - @KiersTheivam on thefootballramble.com

Engen is a pick-up, seen her play four times... She's, well,  dirty, hard, nasty umm...  ;)

Let's just say the Ladies will concede fewer goals with her playing at center-back and leave it at that... :wave

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but is anyone following them on Twitter?

As for the new season, it all looks very promising. Does ESPN show the matches? I'm going to have to find a way to watch more of the games.

I believe the TV deals are being done differently next season. ESPN have had the rights so far but do I expect them to keep them. They only show a live game once in a blue moon though, but they are good with with their weekly highlights program. Hopefully the fact that the deals will be different will mean they show more games in 2013.

I was trying to follow what was going on via Coventry's twitter account, but it seems they had three games going on at the same time and were tweeting updates on all three, so I got hopelessly lost.
Our own twitter account would come in useful for things like this but it has been dead for over a month now. Somebody really needs to sort it out.

I'll keep an eye on that, thanks for the info. I think I remember looking out for games on ESPN but saw they were only showing a game every now and again. The game needs more exposure, so fingers firmly crossed here.

Neither, unfortunately. A friend of mine plays for Coventry ladies, I know all about Cov but very little about our ladies team I'm afraid. I'll have a read of this thread actually.
I could ask her the best way to follow games if anyone wants?

Twitter is the most useful tool for keeping up to date during matches. One of the teams involved will usually live-tweet all the action, but it doesn't always happen unfortunately. When it doesn't you sometimes get a fan at the game doing the job instead. If you're really unlucky nobody will be tweeting anything and then you're in the dark until the FT score comes through somewhere.

Come to think of it, twitter is the most useful tool for keeping up to date with anything that is happening. So here is a very quickly thrown together list of follow worthy accounts to get people started:

@FAWSL
@LFCladies
@ArsenalLadies
@birmcitylfc
@bristolacademy
@ChelseaLFC
@donnybelles - Doncaster Rovers Belles
@EvertonLadies
@Ladyimps - Lincoln Ladies

@WomensSoccerUtd - general coverage of leagues all over the world. Their website is very handy also
@SheKicksdotnet - twitter account of the She Kicks website and magazine
@JacquiOatley - ESPN review show presenter and she can often be found in the studio for live games
@KiersTheivam - covers women's football on thefootballramble.com
@paul_garrity - BBC Sport
@TheGangENG - a bunch of very dedicated women's football fans
@GirlsWithBallz - similar to the account above

That will do for now. I'll probably make a list of twitter accounts belonging to players once the squad has been finalised.

I've been reading that the team will begin pre-season in January. I imagine there will be some friendlies on the way. The league starts in early April, but the season actually kicks off a couple of weeks before that with cup games.

WSL clubs enter the FA Cup at the fifth round, which according to the FA website is scheduled for 16-17 March.
Then comes our first Continental Cup (league cup) game on the 23-24 March.
The sixth round of the FA Cup is listed on the FA website as 30-31 March.

I wouldn't go marking that FA Cup fifth round on your calendars just yet though, as there may be clashes with international games. The fixture list should be out early in the new year. Fingers crossed it is kind to us.

Ladies sign Iceland international Katrin Ómarsdóttir

The 25-year-old midfielder, who spent a season in the USA sandwiched between two spells in Sweden, has 48 caps and eight international goals to her name.

Ómarsdóttir made her senior debut at the age of 14 for KR-Iceland and played there until 2008 when she left to join the University of California, Berkeley, and play for the Golden Bears.

In 2010 she moved to Sweden, where she played for Kristianstads DFF before returning to the USA the following year to ply her trade with Orange County Waves, who finished top of the Women's Premier Soccer League.

Her game is a mixture of skill, power and speed; Ómarsdóttir is an excellent passer of the ball and is a creative, attacking talent.

She starred in Iceland's UEFA Women's Euro 2009 team and has contributed to her country's 15th-placed FIFA ranking.

On signing for Liverpool, Ómarsdóttir said: "I like the environment, philosophy and vision the club has.

"It is my hope that my talent, ability, and mentality will help the club move forward in the direction they want to take. I'm looking forward to the work ahead and to join the Liverpool Ladies."

Matt Beard, Liverpool Ladies manager, commented: "I'm delighted Katrin has decided to join us. She is a hardworking, creative central midfield player; she scores goals and is a great passer of the ball.

"She can also play on the right hand side of midfield which gives us flexibility and more options." - liverpoolfc.com

----------

That's an interesting surname, and with so many new players to learn I'm really going to miss the days when everybody on the team was just called Jones because it was so much easier.

Oh and woohoo! Iceland has a bloody good pedigree (yes, it does!) and Katrin will be a superb addition to the squad, plus her experience at Kristiansand will be invaluable.

New-look ladies ready for action

Liverpool FC Ladies unveil their new-look squad on Saturday when they play their first pre-season friendly against Manchester City at their new home ground - the Halton Stadium in Widnes.

Kick-off is at 7.15pm GMT as boss Matt Beard begins his quest to put the club's ladies among the game's elite.

Admission for all home matches at the Halton Stadium during pre-season is just £2 for adults and £1 for children.

The new 2013 Women's Super League doesn't kick off until March, but the ladies have an extensive pre-season fixture programme and a cup match against Everton.

Additions to the squad such as Fara Williams and Natasha Dowie, signed locally from Everton, will be performing alongside players who come from much further afield, such as Whitney Engen and Katrin Omarsdotti, who hail from the USA and Iceland respectively.

Beard told Liverpoolfc.com: "We have only had everyone back for a week but we have made a good start. Everyone is mixing well and gelling well on the pitch.

"Saturday will be a good test for us and a good chance to see how the team puts our philosophy into place about how we want to play this season.

"We have a very good squad this season and I have been able to sign some quality players which will strengthen us and help Liverpool FC Ladies challenge at the top end of the table.

"We have a good blend of youth and experience which is important and we are confident we can have a good season."

The ladies will play all their home matches at the Halton Stadium and Beard is hoping they can make it a fortress.

He added: "We are now playing at one of the best stadiums in the Women's Super League and hopefully we can make it a fortress and make it difficult for other teams to come here." - liverpoolfc.com

^ great coup for the Ladies team to play there - a great stadium for both players and fans - with some impressive facilities there.

Fair play to the club and staff for the hard work needed to make all these improvements happen.

I can not even begin to explain how much improvement there this; and that's despite eight of the starting XI being new to a team which has only been together properly for about two weeks. Also, I don't know who has scouted the foreign girls but pat yourself on the back.

I was very excited for the season anyway, but now I absolutely can not wait.

I overheard the bench joking that Becky Easton's rather unfortunate (but very funny) miss-kick would be on the video, so I assume last night's match was recorded. But I can't be certain because if a camera was there it was out of my view from where I was sitting.

It seems everybody is welcoming our new Brazilian #10, but it's finally time to officially welcome our new #13.

Liverpool Ladies have today completed the signing of United States U23 international Amanda DaCosta.

Dual national Amanda Da Costa was raised in New York with Portuguese parents. US U23 international Amanda joins Liverpool Ladies after a season with Boston Breakers in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL).

On joining Liverpool Amanda said: “I am thrilled to be playing for a club with such a unique culture and history. Being surrounded by the standard of excellence here at Liverpool is an amazing opportunity for any footballer, and I am eager to start the season with my new teammates.”

Amanda played four years at Florida State University in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) where she was awarded ‘Soccer Buzz National Freshman of the Year’ (2007); voted ‘All-American’ (2007,2008 & 2010) and selected All-ACC team member for all four years of her University career.

In 2011 Amanda was the 17th overall selection in the 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) draft joining Florida club MagicJack. Following the collapse of the WPS league Amanda joined Boston Breakers in the WPSL.

Amanda has represented the US at U17, U20 and U23 levels. At U20 level Amanda played a key role in helping the US reach the final of the Cyprus Cup where they played the Canadian full international side. Amanda has been a member of the U23 squad since 2009. Most recently she scored the winning goal against Norway to secure the championship of the 3-Nations tournament in Norway.

Amanda will add great energy to the Liverpool midfield and is a proven goal scorer. Off field she is a keen writer so watch out for her blogs and tweets.

Liverpool Ladies manager Matt Beard commented: “Amanda is a great signing for us. She has represented The USA National Team at U17, U20 & U23, played professionally in The USA for Magic Jack and Boston Breakers. Amanda is energetic attacking central midfielder. She has great feet and will be a great asset to Liverpool Ladies.” liverpoolladiesfc.com

Kellan, how are our Yankee girls doing?   ;)  Whitney comes from the college program (University of North Carolina) that boasts a host of US National Team players as alumni, so she is use to winning and knows what the meaning of hard work is.  Amanda is a Florida State University grad and that program is on the rise in the US college ranks. Thanks for this thread - Keep posting on the Ladies as it is nice to know how they are doing!   :wave

If I remember correctly, both Whitney and Amanda played a full 90 minutes against City. I've seen Whitney play a couple of times before but that was my first time seeing Amanda. I'm really looking forward to watching their next game. I think they'll both be very good additions to the squad.

Boss on new-look ladies squad

Liverpool FC Ladies manager Matt Beard declared himself satisfied with the 3-0 pre-season win over Manchester City at the weekend but warned his players there is a lot of hard work ahead before the start of the 2013 Women’s Super League season.

Beard has revolutionised the squad this season as he bids to put the Reds ladies on the map and competing at the top end of the women's game.

Getting to the top is going to take time but the ladies have recruited well during the close season with top stars arriving from abroad and closer to home.

In their first pre-season outing at the weekend new signings Fara Williams and Nicole Rosler were on the mark, and Beard admitted it was an encouraging start.

Beard said: "It's been a disrupted first week as a group due to the weather but I have been pleased how things have gone so far.

"The players have bonded well and the atmosphere in training has been great.

"The most important thing is that I'm very pleased with the fitness levels and that showed in our game against Man City.

"It was a good exercise for me just to see how the players have understood our messages in training and to see how they are settling in to the system we want to play.

"We had a great start with Fara scoring direct from a free-kick which helped settle us down. After that we played some good football.

"There is plenty for us to work on, we still have Louise Fors to join the squad now that the Australian season has finished.

"With every pre-season game we play I will be looking for improvements right the way across the board.

"I understand as do the players that it is going to take time for things to fall into place, but I am confident that once we start playing competitively we will be 100 per cent ready and prepared for what looks like being the most competitive Super League season yet."

The new 2013 Women's Super League doesn't kick off until March, but the ladies have an extensive pre-season fixture programme and a cup match against Everton.

Beard's side are next in action on Tuesday (February 5) when they take on Leeds United at the Halton Stadium (7.30pm).

Admission for all home matches at the Halton Stadium during pre-season is just £2 for adults and £1 for children.
