Downing against Anzhi. What a goal.
You're all too fucking serious, the lot of you. Relax, we don't really matter.

Oh, and we should have an in's and out's topic, stickied.

Not the most aesthetically pleasing but I'd go for Hendo's goal against Southampton at Anfield (19/20). I think that was when we went 22 points clear to all but seal our first title in my lifetime. It was an emotionally compelling moment.

I remember watching a montage of our league win in 1990 and wondering when I'd ever get to experience that and there were quite a few near misses along the way.

Southampton were better in the first half and should have scored but Alisson and Virg were in top form. Ox broke the deadlock and Hendo gave us breathing space to go 23(TWENTY-THREE) points clear which was unheard of. Thag season was worth the wait.

Alisson
Coutinho against Man U in the Europa League
Fowler against someone-I-can't-remember where he took down a David James punt with a superb touch and then passed it into the net.  So classy.
Gerrard in the FA Cup final against West Ham
Firmino's goal against Man City when we lost in 2019 was amazing.  Probably the best team goal I've seen us score.  It doesn't really count though as goals in losing games lose 50% of their sparkle  ;)

I’m going to say Norwich at home in a 4-0 win just after Christmas. 94/95 I think. It’s on Fowler’s Hot 100 video somewhere. :D

Think the Brann was from a punt from Ruddock.

Always loved Fowler’s second against Villa in the FA Cup semi, just a goal that absolutely summed him up, pull off into the space exactly where the ball will drop, lovely touch and perfectly placed in off the post.

Mo Salah's 30 yard thunderbolt against Chelsea at Anfield about 3 years ago.

We felt invincible at the time, and the strike was absolutely stupendous.

Beardsley v everton at the kop end, think it was 87/88, the Aldridge tap in v arsenal at the kop end that season as well

Barnes v Aston villa at the kop end, might have been that season or 89//90

The Torres dummy racing on to Gerrards through ball at home to Newcastle

Also Torres volley v Blackburn at anfield, back across the keeper

Mcmanaman solo away v Celtics

I seem to remember a Gerrard scissor kick v arsenal in a league cup game we lost by a crazy scoreline

The Suarez chest down v Newcastle and the tight angle finish at Sunderland, though the turn and volley against arsenal that smashed against the post would have topped the lot if it had gone in.

The Salah thunderbolt at home to Chelsea

Is this the Fowler one?

https://youtu.be/kzkkCvV-sUc

That Villa one mentioned above was great. Scored so many great goals around that time. The United pair at Old Trafford. West Ham away. Villa against Staunton and one against them all he season or two before in front of a half built Kop when the ball was bobbling around a bit and then he just pinged it so sweetly into the far top corner. Such a clean striker of the ball.

"Barnes.  Still Barnes.  That's a magnificent individual goal by John Barnes."

But that's my #2.  The Terry Mac header against Spuds at Anfield is just a thing of complete beauty.  1978 I think.

My favorite goal aesthetically speaking was Gerrard's pile driver against Inter Milan in 2008. We weren't on top form going into that and we'd lost to Barnsley at home in the previous game so I was a bit nervous.

I missed it because I had to go the bed early to be fresh for school the next morning. When I woke up and checked the score, I was absolutely made up and the goals were boss. Fantastic atmosphere.

For the second, Gerrard shot from an impossible angle and it hit the post on the way on. The power on it was unreal. Bradley's commentary also made it more epic:

"Gerrard, looks for an angle!  OOOH!

That was Stevie at his peak.

My 3 favourite goals are all from Terry McDermott but don't include the one that is usually mentioned - the header in the 7-0 thrashing of Spurs

#1 v Spurs 1980 = intercepted a bad clearance by the Spurs defender. McDermott didn't bother controlling it in the conventional sense. Just flicked it up for himself and hit a brilliant volley from around 25 yards outside the area on right hand side. The ball finished in opposite top corner. Still makes me grin.

#2 v Everton 1977 FA Cup semi-final = dummy & outrageous chip

#3 v Aberdeen 1980 European Cup = delicate chip from a ridiculous angle

Nice this thread is getting a bump, needs some positivity in here!

Recent bias for me to, there are literally hundreds upon hundreds to chose.

First, that Suzrez goal vs Newcastle. Was just majestic and cool as ice. Allison's header vs WBA, just awesome, was a moment for the big guy so was well chuffed for him as well as ourselves. Origi vs bluecrap, cannot do anything but laugh. On an oldskool vibe, John Barnes scored loads of belters, one against QPR in 87/88 was amazing, I miss the days of his mazey runs and rocket shots.

1976 0-0 at Anfield v Everton, David Fairclough comes on as sub and scores the winner in the 88th minute, arguably the greatest ever goal scored in a Derby match.  I was discussing Derby matches with a friend who said Graeme Sharps volley at Anfield was the best ever I said it wasn't even the best scored in that end, I then showed him Fairclough's goal on YT and even he had to agree.

Terry Mac's header against Spurs in the 7-0 Anfield thrashing. Proper team goal, sweeping up the pitch from defending a corner, to their keeper picking the ball out his net, almost in the blink of an eye.

Even Terry Mac himself says it was the best.

Lot of goals on here that were on TV but back in the day when not all games had cameras I remember Phil Neal cutting in onto his left foot and scoring a 25 yard top corner screamer against Man City. 5-2 Christmas 1982. One of the most purely enjoyable games I ever went to - full house (when full houses were rare), result never in doubt, Dalglish hat-trick, Souness taking out revenge on City's David Cross, Bruce running out in a silly Xmas hat and attaching it to the goal frame, and he also made the best save I've ever seen - City player (might have be the late Tommy Caton) hit a volley from 6/7 yards out and Bruce somehow reacted to tip it round the post. No one could believe it.

Before my time but just watched it on YouTube.  Brilliant goal!  There's not many modern players that would have stayed on their feet when he dipped between the first two defenders and even less that would have ridden the penalty area lunge.

Not the best footage but all I can find.

Where do you start? The older you get the more there are...and the foggier the dates! The 2 David Fairclough classics. I was in the Kop for both of them. Toshack against Everton which I saw from the Anfield Road End. Terry Mac in the FA Cup semifinal against Everton, Steven Gerrard against West Ham in the FA Cup Final. Even more obscure and I wonder if anyone can help me. Phil Boersma scored an absolute beauty against Stoke I think. Everyone standing near was saying it was the best goal they'd ever seen. Year? 1973?

For levels of utter delirium  -  Gini's equaliser against Barca at Anfield.

But, for sheer ecstasy and delight  -  Stevie G's last minute equaliser in FA Cup Final v West Ham.........rarely seen a ball hit sweeter !
