The upfront cost for 0 is nessacery though mate, Iv ended up going with 300 minutes 3000 texts 500mb internet with vodafone for 26.00 a month.

Fair enough mate, the phone's boss anyway so worth it either way.

Bit of an odd request...

Basically either I have turned a feature on on my phone or a friend has done it taking the piss. Whenever I get a text or a call it says "message received from number 0 7 8 etc etc..." and I mean literally says it in a robot voice! How on earth do I turn this crazy feature OFF!!

Thanks in advance
It's a feature called 'Driving Mode'.
Did the same thing last week.
It's in: Settings-->Voice input and output-->Text-to-speech settings-->Driving mode.
That's about as funny as having impotency and a pregnant wife.

Anyone have a problem with theirs crashing often? Usually its the "launcher" app on mine that crashes - whatever app I'm in freezes then I get a message saying the launcher app has crashed and it closes whatever I was using (e.g. the music player, though its happened in several applications).

Great phone apart from that though.

With regards to tariffs, mine is £21 per month on O2 (+ £10 for 1gb internet), 24 month contract, phone was free, 300 minutes, unlimited texts.

The contract I have is the first TalkMobile one here

200 mins +
1000 texts +
1GB data

12 month contract
£20 per month
£284.99 for the phone (it was £250 when I got the contract a few months ago, but that was from a Carphone Warehouse store so try there first. There's other contracts too if you need more minutes/texts.

200 mins
3000 texts
3000 Virgin to Virgin mins
1 gb data.
£6 for handset.
But had nightmare with delivery, which i was assured would
be 48 hrs but actually took 9 days so got £50 of credit for
the inconvenience.
Overall a great deal.

Has anyone tried this? www.cyanogenmod.com

I'm a little wary of it, in case I can't revert the phone to its factory settings should I not like it.

I tried it on my rooted Desire. It was ok from memory and pretty quick. I have to be honest, in retrospect, the only reason I would root again would be to remove the storage issues with the Desire, and therefore no need to on the S2.

It looks like it has a few nice features, but the phone runs quite hot anyway and I wouldn't want to make it worse.

Also, when I jailbroke my iPhone it made it run like a bitch so always worry about doing this kind of thing now!

Had that on my old Android phone. Fantastic ROM though not entirely sure the S2 needs it as its one hell of a phone with a great ROM installed already. I love TouchWizz, its on my Galaxy Ace too.

No issues whatsoever. I suppose it depends on what you are planning to install, but so much better than the Desire in every way, in particular the memory.

Anyone have an issue with the camera?  I got this phone a few days ago and the quality is pretty poor, defo not 8meg standard.  Just compared it against my wires iPhone and the iPhone pisses on it, which is obviously wrong.
Tried resetting to factor settings but no joy.

Anyone had a similar issue?

Just ordered one of these from Vodafone, arrives Tues:

24 months, free phone, 750mb data, 900 minutes, unlimited texts, free 2gb BT Openzone Wi-Fi for £26.00pm plus a timed delivered window instead of the usual having to wait in all day delivery which they waived the cost of.

They originally wanted £86 for the phone & £36pm for the plan.

Also managed to get £51 for my BlackBerry 9520.

Its a cracking camera for a phone. The front camera however is not. The only issue i have is the
fact that its tricky to take pics of yerself with a mate for example. Having to guess where the button is. Although the timer does help a bit.

Anyone had any issues with roaming?

I made sure I turned the checkboxes off for "use packet data" and "data roaming", in Settings> Wireless & networks>Mobile network.
A little later, I got a text from o2 saying I had hit £17 of roaming data. Went and checked and they still weren't on. I had used roaming for about 3 minutes to check a map, then turned straight back off. I assumed I had downloaded shit loads of updates in 3 mins, but still thought it was a lot.

Next day I got another text saying I had hit £34 of roaming and they won't charge me any more on this months bill.  I hadn't had roaming turned on at all since last sms. Checked settings and they were still unchecked. I then went into settings>about phone>status and it said in here roaming was on! So that checkbox seems to do fuck all!

I managed to hit the limit in 2 days, all from background downloads.

I found this page, someone else having a similar issue with roaming turning itself back on:
http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-help-desk/sgs2-data-roaming-auto-activation-%28bug%29/

I have ended up buying an app called APNdroid to kill all data connections. Has anyone had this before and is there a definitive way to turn off roaming on the handset wothout the need for an extra app? I can't believe that bug is in there and they haven't updated it.

when you press the power button on the side of the phone, did you see "Data network mode deactivated" when you disabled your internet?

I used to have this problem with my HTC Hero but on this one, it seems fine.  On tmobile you can buy £1 and £5 bundles whenever you want abroad in order to use the net, I dont know if O2 has the same thing but it is quite handy to avoid huge charges when you use the map.  Google maps are very data hungry when they are downloading or locating you.

Yes, I checked that too, and it had "Data network mode deactivated". But it always still had a small R in the top left of the signal indicator. Does this mean roaming is still acitvated?

what t-mobiles says is:

The "R" on the signal with nothing on the up/down arrows means you are roaming (i.e. using ) someone else's network.

If there is the "R" on the signal and a letter "G, 3G, H or H+" on the up/down arrows, then you are roaming with data ON.

I think it should be the same for your network but check with them first.

Yeh, what does the 'H' and 'G' mean in the status bar when on the net ?

H is HSPDA = Upto 14.4mbps on the S2 (network dependant too)
G is GPRS - Upto something like 300kbps or round that (pretty slow for net connection)

My bird has this phone and the last 2 days she keeps getting blocked out her facebook, she thinks I went on it on my phone (I never) but she can still access chat for someone reason. Would it block her out temporarily because someone else accessed it? As I've used other phones to access my Facebook account and never had this problem.

I know it's not really a proper Galaxy question but wondered if the above is possible? I googled it and can't find any evidence that is the reason she is blocked.
