We need better than Lucas if we have any ambition to become contenders again. Granted, he has improved year-on-year, but it has been incremental at best. If he continues at his current rate of improvement, then he'll probably be Liverpool standard by the time he's 47, which I'm afraid isn't much good to us. I've no idea what the bids were, but if they were anything in the region of what we paid for him then we should have accepted them.
I expect his position will be addressed in the summer, though.
