Dont they do it because a bar full of lads wouldnt get girls in?

Pretty sure thats the reasoning behind it like, they say a bar full of lads, would put off girls, and other lads as well as they are looking for the girls, who are looking for a bar, which is full of lads, that puts girls off....  :)

Theres a few places in town, which have doormen who say couples only. I guess there is much less chance of trouble if the lad is with his girl, as opposed to getting hammered with all his mates.

used to have this issue in the 90-s didnt know it was still happening, maybe its just the bars i chose to go to or alternatively im just older...and not in a massive group of lads?

Nice one Giovanni/Roady! The thing with Circus is I went a couple of times (long time ago like) and it didn't seem as good as Chibuku. As I say, long time ago, may be different now. I know 2manydjs play Camp and Furnace on new year but I'm going to be away for that. How do the dj's who are playing Circus on boxing night compare to the kind of music that 2manydjs play? Obviously I'm pretty clueless on this type of music.

DJ's are miles apart to be honest. Loco Dice is the headliner. He plays just heavy house/tech house and to be fair he's fucking brilliant. But if you like 2manydj's you may not be into him. Lot's of quick build ups and big drops, lot's of hip hop samples and the like.

Then you have Jamie Jones who plays more deep discoey stuff. Not really my cup of tea but he's doing well and last time I heard him played was decent to be fair. Then Yousef who rocks it every time. It's all very underground music and unless you're into that you won't know many, if any of the tunes playing.

I probably would of went if it was in The Masque but didn't really enjoy Camp and Furnace last time, so it's dressing smart with the lads and off to Mansion I think.

Have been given the ultimate task of deciding on the starting point/area to explore for a upcoming pub round..

Bunch of fat forty year olds, so looking for some real ale pubs mixed in with some more colourful; whether that be bad karaoke, medium-to-high average age, colourful regulars etc..

Considering to start at the philharmonic and work ourselves downwards or just start around lime street or williamson square..

Any pointers ?

thanks

I'd do that and head into town and towards Dale Street. Better off going downhill as well, you lads probably struggle going uphill too much at your age, especially after a bevvy  ;)

Has the jacaranda closed down forever or has it been reopened?

Heard it went late 2011 but not been round that way for a long time.

yep. It went in November 2011.

As the curtains are drawn, not sure if it's been ripped out or just moth-balled.

Either way, it's been closed since.

was supposedly set to reopen this time last year but didn't happen for whatever reason.

Not sure why the owners are sitting on it rather than selling it on or reopening to be honest, seems like a missed opportunity one way or another

Great pub, shit staff and poor beer quality. Head up the road a little and start at The Caledonia then via Belvedere, Grapes (Knight St not Mathew St one), Ye Cracke, Fly in the Loaf, Roscoe Head and Dispensary. Then head over to Dale St and do Ship & Mitre (if the ale quality has improved as seem more concerned with foreign ales now) and then via Excelsior, Vernon Arms, Rigbys and The Lion.

Went in the Bier Keller the other weekend. Found it ok. Sat in the downstairs bar, the one with all the beers, and it was decent. Atmosphere was good at around 5/6ish after doing a bit of shopping with the girlfriend. As for the ale tho, I think the fly in the loaf is a better pub, more draught and a better selection. A lot of the beer I had tried/I didn't really class as a world beer because of it's uk popularity such as Corona!

Anyone been to the new little bar where 'The Sink' used to be - it's owned by Aloha.

Really cool little Gin & Whiskey place... called 'Barley & Rye' I think.

Not been, but been planning on going for a while. Maybe next weekend. Worth a visit, is it? Do they have a piano in there?

Likewise, The 23 Club on Hope St (downstairs in The Clove Hitch) has some top notch bourbons and beers. It's tiny in there, but well worth a visit.

Want to try that place.

Loads of places to watch the footy on Sunday mate. It will be on pretty much everywhere.

It will depend on what kind of drinking you're after?  Real ale pubs/trendy bars etc.

Sunday afternoon is always quite good around town as well, as there's quite a few places that put on live bands etc. so a more mature clientel and less meatheads.
That said, the match on a Sunday will bring up the idiot count a little though.

Sunday night I can't really comment on, as it's not one of my regular drinking times in town.

I'm heading to the Zenit game in 3 weeks time.

Midweek and going for 3 nights with a few lads, all about 21.

What would be the good spots to go to?I've been over midweek before be we did a lot of drinking in the hotel then just went concert square around 11 or 12.

Kinda burns money, any good bars  in the evening that would be busy midweek in town? Student bars or anything

Thanks.Never even knew of some of them places.First time I went out in Liverpool my sister and her husband(over in Liverpool a good bit before) just brought me to concert square during the weekend and around Liverpool one and thats all I've known since.

Was in Matthew street for a few hours but it was very quiet during the week.

I'l have to head over to Hardman street though as last time I went out in Concert square during student nights it never got busy till late and most bars were only half full.

All the craic must be over in the student bars,Obviously.

Got jumped last night by 4 lads on my way home from town (i only live next to Lime St). Luckily I escaped with just a black eye. My mate a couple of hours later got mugged... held a knife to him and took all his money. Some real scum walking around at night. Advise anyone who gets  lost/separated from mates on a night out to get a taxi home and not walk it because its close to save money. Better safe than sorry.

Was in Bierkeller on Saturday for the Rugby, was a great atmosphere, and was talking to some great people at the bar too. Some of the Barstaff were a bit gormless mind. Probably going back this weekend, as we get 25% off there for rugby games! :D

Sorry to hear that mate, I hate it when this sort of thing happens to people who are new to the city becuase of the bad impression it must leave. It's not put me off going out at all. I've been living here 6 months and its the first bit of trouble I've come across. I used to live in a small town with 1 or 2 clubs and somehow I seen so much more trouble there than I do in Liverpool. My impression is still a good one.
