Most of Liverpool 1 sells itself as a little bit more up market, refined and genteel.  I dread to think what a few hundred steaming drunks unable to even stand will do for it's reputation.

It will look a little out of place at that location to be fair, and would probably be better suited to somewhere else in town.

Can you imagine how the guests at the Hilton are going to react, when they look out of their window on a Saturday afternoon/night and see that lot.

It's going to look like a zombie apocalypse.  :D

I kind of like the idea but worry about the execution.
Plus, I'm instantly suspicious of any bar that has people wondering around town with posters on a stick advertising it.

the bier keller sounds great. I've heard the one in Leeds is really good.

I doubt at 3.50-4 quid a pint you're gonna get loads of ale heads in there!

If they end up putting on some good German beers I'll defo go in.

The Fly in the Loaf up hardman st is class for world beer and this is a bit more central/touristy with the location. When's it open then?

Saw a lad holding a sign for that Bierkeller last night.  Must check it out.

Funny.  I'm like the lad above.  Any bar I see advertised like that I immediately think "Big swerve".  I used to get fucking hammered as a student in the old bierkeller though so I might have to look in for research purposes ;)

All I can remember is the massive steins of lager(mostly froth  :)) and the strippers, think it was afternoons. You could get up on the tables and all that so I guess it was OK for a laugh. Just seems a strange part of town to me.

Deffo... if it hasn't already. Off the top of my head I can think of 12 bars on or just off that one part of Seel Street alone (that is from Slater St intersection up to Berry St). Surely at some point it just means the clientèle are just going to 'thin out' between all of them?

That wouldn't be a bad thing imo.

Went to the new Bier Keller in L1 last night. There's no way on Earth that won't be a success. Downstairs they have "Around The World In Eighty Beers", upstairs a sports bar called "Shooters" that has pool tables and a giant projection screen and beyond that is the Bier Keller: a mess-hall Oktoberfest-style room. Erdinger on draft (though they had run out of Dunkel - grr!) And, on top of all this, attractive young girls walking around in lederhosen. It's bloody brilliant to be honest.

Yeah, it is quite expensive. I guess that's the only drawback, but then it's no more than you'd usually pay in a place that sells the range of ales they do.

I also forgot to mention, we ventured into the "sports bar" area for a bite to eat. You'll have to forgive me because I opted for the "Moyes Burger". Was nice. Tempted to go for the "Ruddock" next time I go - "for the man with a big appetite".

I ended up in the Bierkeller the other day and was quite impressed. It was only Sunday afternoon so pretty quiet.
Loads of beers - mainly lagers not real ales - but they had genuine article stuff like Banks from Barbados, Singha thailand and Crown from Oz amongst others.

Good choice of draught as well - carling, mahou, stella, fosters, brahma, heiniken, amstel, coors. the bar was massive and they had different ones at the other end.

Wasnt cheap but wouldnt expect it too. Think it was about £3.50\4 a pint but cant be sure.

Can see it being stag do central tho

I was there on the opening night on Friday as it was my office Christmas night out. It was a bit different to what I was expecting - I thought it would be similar to the Bierkeller on Dale Street, but it felt a lot less "authentic" than that one. The actual Bierkeller bit upstairs was good fun, people dancing on the benches etc, and they served a better selection of beer in there which also came in 2 pint steins. I got a stein of DAB, but I can't remember what else they had, I was pleased enough that they had DAB on draft though.

went to BierKeller last night, must admit it was good fun. Was knackered after getting up on the benches and down again and linking arms and all that bollocks.

Downside - in the beer hall it took forever to get served. Waited about 20 minutes, would have walked out normally but I'm a minge bag and I wanted me deposit back on the stein :)

It's not a place for a quiet pint, or for people who love a good traditional pub - as someone mentioned above it's total stag-do central. A cheesy theme bar - or even 3 cheesy theme bars in one - (the sign even says "entertainment complex") but it has it's place. Pretty pricey mind, cheapest I paid for a pint was £3.50.

I don't understand the indignation  ???

you go up some stairs to get to the beer hall bit, so does that not constitute "upstairs"?

Didn't mean that bit, but 'Bier Keller' quite obviously means 'beer cellar' or 'beer basement'. Why is it on top of the other bit?

A few years a go I was taking a piss in the upstairs toilets in Heebies, in the cubicle with the door open because the urinals were busy, and just as I was zipping up some meathead twat bouncer came steaming in, grabbed me and threw me out cos he thought I was doing coke. Bizarre.

Anyway, really hope Liverpool gets a Brewdogs soon. Been to the Newcastle one a few times now and its great; boss ale, music and atmosphere.

Town was pretty rammed on Saturday night as expected, tried to get into that Aloha gaff but the knuckle headed oafs on the door wouldnt let groups of lads in (despite my mates actually getting in ahead of me), then told me "no lads on their own" - I wouldnt mind but I was stone cold sober! In the end I had to ring my mates who were already in there and the idiots relented and let me in. In the end we didnt like it and went to Pogues for a Guinness!

Pop World did something similar to me. Before you ask, it was a uni class night out and we went in there for a laugh, wouldn't normally set foot in there. I arrived a bit later and the bouncers wouldn't let anyone on their own in unless you were a female that is. Had to get a few mates to come outside so they could see.

Any idea why they do that?
