Liverpool 1 - 1 Lyon
« on: November 4, 2009, 09:50:24 pm »
Can't see a thread started on this yet...forums must be overloaded.

A bit in line with our season so far, really. Emotions always run strong this soon after a sad loss, so i'll keep my opinions to myself for now. Of course, a lot of the blame falls on Kyrgiakos here. Two big mistakes in the last few minutes. I can't understand why the game was so open in the dying minutes. Lyon weren't even pressing our defense that hard, so we should have just kept the ball. Leaving a game too open is a mistake I thought Rafa would never make.

Well on Babel for the goal. It was a screamer, but his flubs afterwards clearly indicate the frustrations we have with him. It is interesting that even with such an injury crisis, he wasn't a starter. Also, if Torres was too injured to play more than 60 minutes on Saturday, how could he last 87 today? And if he is gonna last 87, why not just leave him on? I doubt Cris would have been that high up the pitch had Torres still been on.

We didn't look too bad, all in all, but I did not see the amount of determination that I would have expected. Funny thing is, we can still go through. If we don't, this season is dead and gone before christmas. With nothing to play for, I don't see things improving. Knowing us, though, we'll probably hit a fine run of form in february and finish 3rd, but that does us no good. treading water.

I'm sure the press will have a field day, but fuck them. Our bad luck continues with tonight's shit bounce. Definitely felt we shaded it. We were unfortunate tonight. Babel's goal was excellent. Too bad he couldn't convert a second. Mascherano MOTM

As it stands if Lyon win at Fiorentina, we only need to beat them at Anfield. If it's a draw, we need to beat Fiorentina 3-0.
Does having to score 3 to go through in your final game sound familiar?

I feel a classic CL night at Anfield coming on.

Defensive error - goal. No leeway this season. We fuck up we conceed.

That said, we bossed the game, should have scored before we did and it was a shame we couldn't keep our nerve.

So fukin proud of our lads.  What a performance.  There are times in football when you really can't let the scoreline override what you saw.  We had a team devoid of at least 3 1st team players, and we were brilliant.

Fucking gutted, we were excellent tonight and one poor defensive play costs us.

We will be the first team to win the Europa league - can't see Lyon giving two shits about a match in Fiorentina, and they will be more than happy to see us get knocked out.

We should have won. We were unlucky to concede in the last few minutes. Bossed the game and had a load of chances but undone by not being clinical enough. Mascherano and Lucas were a good pair tonight.

Gutting draw.

Where the fuck did the resilience go?

Fuck yer Alonso's, Hyypia's, owners and injuries... where the hell has that steely resolve disappeared to? That was by far the best thing to come out of last season and I want it back. Now.

Be nice to be able to go into injury time expecting to score a goal, not concede one.

The Greek was doing that all night, going to ground when he didn't have to.

Either way, still proud of the lads. Babel's goal deserved better.

Seriously hacked off. Deserved more than we got and we need a break man, we need a break. Lyon were PITIFUL. and wernt much better in the first game, robbed in both games.

However i think Insua needs dropping, i just dont trust the lad at left back we look really weak there. That goal came from his inability to win a header, hes just not strong enough in the air.

Thought we were brilliant tonight, such a gutsy performance with half the team out injured. Just a couple of slight misjudgements at the back and, as always, we get punished for it. Totally outplayed them, that's why I'm so fucking pissed off, we're just getting no luck whatsoever.

First draw of the season.

Shame it took eight season killing defeats to get here. Well done lads.

Not good enough when it really mattered. Of the decisive moments in the game, there were too many when we weren't good enough.

That's the difference between this season and last. This time last season these were the kind of games we gained points in in the last seconds, not dropped them.

Whatever the reasons, we're not good enough anymore. Maybe we were never any better than now, but now it shows because we're in the grip of an injury (and confidence) crisis. And I think we know who to blame for suffering so badly for key players being out.

Not the manager, let's put it that way.

Not good enough. Now the interminable wait for the death knell proper some time in January or February when some football league side unceremoniously dumps us out of the consolation prize tournament that is the FA Cup.

We bossed the game in typical European LFC fashion, just unlucky. Felt though when Babel screwed that chance wide we might pay dearly.

Excellent all over the pitch, a game that against all the odds we richly we deserved to win, felt sorry for the lads at the end of that game, we can take pride from that performance, and Babels goal was brilliant and that alone deserved to win us the game.

Proud.......but gutted.

Lyon will want to finish top.  I think Lyon have got more than enough in  the tank to get a win or a draw away to the Italians.

Thank god its head to head rather than goal difference.  We'd be fooked.

That's it I've lost all faith in Rafa and I think he should go.

What the hell was he doing missing that header? Then he compounded it by getting caught under the ball. Also the challenge by Benitez on the edge of the area was far too weak and there was absolutely no need to go down there. And someone tell me, why wasn't Rafa covering? I also thought he came off of his line too slowly, and as is Rafa's forte, wafted a hand at the ball rather than getting a fist to it. Shocking performance by Rafa.

unlucky lads, great performance, Lucas MOM.  Voronin couldn't score in a brothel, their equaliser that is how you finish!  I wish Rafa would give Babel a chance up front, so much better down the middle.  Look at what happend to Henry, shite winger to top class forward.

Game should have been put to bed before halftime to be honest, both torres and voro with bad misses. Well done ryan when he came on, cracking goal and showed some hunger. Again a game is fucked because of missed chances and a makeshift back four. I'm fucking sick of seeing different partnerships all across the back four this year, no stability and teams know that if they keep at us, we'll break sooner or later.

Oh well. Twat the brummies at the weekend, and fuck it, lets win the europa.
