It'd be funny though to see the reaction of the cocks who insulted him

I wouldn't be idolizing him the way I used to that's for sure.

That article is like a gossip column. Mourinho goes 'Xabi stop giving that one pass out of a hundred away lad', meaning he's about to re-sign for Liverpool.

Ha ha ha, I've just read this thread from start to finish

There is some epic stuff in here

Epically fucking insanely crazy stuff that is

Why?

I was very upset that he left, I knew it was his decision to want to leave but the circumstances in how he went left me heartbroken overall and I took it out on him.

I felt like he could do no wrong and I put him on a pedestal all his time with us; I have just never really got over that he chose to leave us for some other club. At that time I was feeling that Liverpool was invincible and I suppose I am selfish for thinking that no key player ever wants to move on or go and I had let my feelings known about how I felt about him when he was playing for Real in his first few appearances or his many interviews with the English media (though no fault of his - the media were probably begging for an insult about Rafa).

I still appreciate him as a player nowadays but I just feel very let down by him because he was my favourite player at Liverpool at the time. But Liverpool is first and foremost than a player is and always was with me. If he where to come back I just wouldn't be fawning over him like I used to, that's all.

I'd have him back in an instant, but that article is completely fucking pointless.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Ha, that's the last word I'd use to describe him as a footballer. Mercenary my arse.

I don't get why this guy's detested so much to be honest. He's a fucking legend of the club for fucks sake.

I'd love him to come back (it won't happen though and even if he did, Roy would probably stick him up front or something)

I agree.

Can't see how he's a mercenary at all. He felt unappreciated and Real came in for him. He spent 5 years here, it's not like he came here for one season for the money. The biggest club in Spain came in for him and he left us for three times what we paid.

Bottom line, if he came back 99% of fans would spuff their kecks. I'd be one of them.

I didn't mean to say you did- it was just the mercenary bit. The guy clearly loved the club and city, never said a bad word or anything negative and was at the very centre of Rafa's successes. He was the complete opposite of a mercenary to be fair.

Don't understand the antipathy toward Xabi.
It was two people who fell out and there was fault on both sides.
Happens in life all the time. It would have been better if they could have resolved their differences, but sadly it wasn't to be.
I don't hate Xabi for wanting out, and I don't hate Rafa for allowing it to happen.
Just a sense of sadness that it ended like it did.

One of my favourite footballers in the world, despite him leaving, I still feel attached to him as if he was still playing for us.

He won't be coming back, to be honest, we were lucky we had him in our side for as long as we did.

Great interview Alonso has given to El Pais. Some quotes that have been translated by http://Twitter.com/LaLiga_News

Xabi: "The time spent in Liverpool marked me. Beyond football, beyond the memorable CL victory in 2005"

Xabi Alonso: "Anfield is the temple of football. For me it is the most wonderful stadium in the world"

that interview in El País is fantastic. It wasn't as if he was playing to the crowd in an interview in a spanish paper but he talks very highly of Liverpool. He mentions the 20th anniversary of Hillsborough as one of the things that had an affect on him.

And of the alleged fall out with Benitez over the Inter away game, he says:
"Actually, it was not anything serious.  Benitez never forced me to go to Milan, I knew I would have stayed".
