4-8 weeks?

Damn. Someone is going to have to step up.
His name is Lucas. He was expected to anyway.

I'm looking forward to his wicked shot and the havoc he can cause with his work rate.  He's going to be another threat, creating space and chances for others.  He's gonna be good for us...

Best to get him 100% fit and then let him have an impact when hes up for selection.  Will give us a great boost 8 weeks into the season

When will his pre season start, hope we dont just throw him in.

Lets give this lad time to settle before the fucking retards start saying he is shite and crocked

Gerrard moves back, Kuyt goes up front with Torres, Yossi comes in on the right.

FFS why does everyone look at our team so narrow-minded? 'Oh god, what do we do if one midfielder gets injured?' Rafa has flexibility in such circumstances.

Exactly, not to mention Lucas who could drop in and Spearing or Plessis who could cover him from the bench.

That said, Vinny O'Connor just announced it on SSN before it was announced on the official site and he said Christian Poulson would be next

Dunno what to make of that cos he isn't on the radar accoriding to Tony B @ the Echo. Maybe we're getting him on loan?

His fitness record proves he is a bit of a gamble by Rafa, I really hope it pays off. At 20m I expect great things from this lad.
Remember the last guy we bought for £20M, he was already settled in England and he turned out not to last 6 months.
Lets give this guy a change B4 we judge him.

I was listening to James Richardson's podcast the other day and there was a guy there saying that if Liverpool win the league this season Lucas is going to have a lot to do with it.

The best we can do is support the lad, he has big role to play now (Lucas that is).

alberto being italian would probably enjoy the whine around some here.
we get it- it's a fucking gamble/he's injury prone/rather barry/we're fucked despite having hmm i dunno at least 5 people and that's not counting yossi for 2 midfield spots. ffs.

i'm already dreading the nuclear fallout if this guy misplaces his first pass.
Finish the job sir. Come back when we deserve you.

I thought that, but maybe Rafa is being cagey? Even though Aquilani got linked with us about 6 weeks ago, it was denied by all concerned. So maybe Rafa is trying to keep these deals more secretive these days now he's in charge?

Roma has had injuries to many of their players for a while now.  You can speculate why, but who knows?  Add the fact that two of his injuries reoccurred because he came back too soon.  Let's hope he gets healthy, stays healthy and shows us his class.

i also think that he will be protected more at liverpool because of the work that mash does

God I still yearn for the days when the first you knew about a signing was walking along Water Street and seeing the echo board outside India Buildings " Liverpool Sign........Dalglish" or whoever. Fucking great days.

Rafa playing cagey is fine by me, keep the fuck stum and the other twats cant push the price up !

Well done Rafa !

People panicking already that he's not fit for 8 weeks, and yet, if you take a look at our fixtures, if we can't beat the shit in front of us in the first 6-7 games WITHOUT this lad, then we really won't be reaching for number 19 end of the season.

Stop panicking, we have good players on the books still FFS.  ::)
You'd think because Alonso is gone that's it. And there are too many 'but what if?' stressed people on here... get a grip of yourselves.

Well we've definitely signed a remarkably talented individual anyway. Lets hope he adapts to the league as quickly as possible once fit and helps us win the title. I'd still be concerned over his previous injury record (stringent medical or not), so lets hope its money well spent. No doubting his talent though and he's definitely a move towards a more attacking approach from midfield, far more mobile and pacier than Alonso. Exciting times ahead, now another attacking option and cover at CB would be nice.

He's got a good few weeks to sort it out if he doesn't! I'm sure Dossena will be sorting him out and helping him along the way as well.

Think Rafa has tightened up the loose lips at Melwood. It's good to be back doing business the Liverpool way.

Especially since someone leaked the Alonso transfer request to Bascombe, Rafa was not impressed when interviewed about it

Interesting comments from JAR:
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N165324090807-1944.htm

RIISE: AQUILANI WILL SHINE AT ANFIELD
Roma defender John Arne Riise has backed former teammate Alberto Aquilani to be a star in the Barclays Premier League.
Riise knows all about adapting to life in England after spending seven years at Anfield - and he believes his Italian friend has all the qualities necessary to succeed.

"When I first came to Roma, I didn't know a thing about Aquilani," said Riise, who swapped Merseyside for Rome last summer.

"I knew all about Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi and Philippe Mexes, of course, but Aquilani was the player who surprised me the most in my first months with what he could do.

"He's really good on the ball, with good passing, good movement, he works hard and is a good professional.

"He likes to have the ball at his feet but not because he likes to dribble, he just wants to keep the team moving. He never stands still, he's always on the run.

"He certainly runs more than Xabi and is probably more dangerous in terms of getting in the box and trying to score goals.

"When I came to Rome he was my neighbour and helped me out a lot. He's a good friend. Liverpool will be getting a very good player."

Aquilani will become just the second Italy international to sign for Liverpool after agreeing personal terms to complete the move from Serie A.

Riise added: "There is an obvious difference between the Italian and English leagues.

"Here it is more tactical whereas in England you're playing 90 minutes up and down, up and down, and there is more emphasis on power and physical force. But Cristiano Ronaldo isn't all about physique and he has been the best player in the Premier League in recent seasons.

"Everyone can adapt. It just takes time. The key is how long it takes. I was lucky - I fitted in quite quickly when I came from Monaco. Alberto is someone who wants to make the most of his talent and wants to prove himself, so if Liverpool come in for you it is very hard to say no."

Meanwhile, Riise remains a keen follower of his former club and believes 2009-10 could be an historic season for the Kop.

"Last season I was so sure they would do it. They made a fantastic start but drew some games and United got stronger," said the Norway international.

"I really hope they can do it this time. Xabi and Alvaro Arbeloa leaving is a shame, but Glen Johnson is a brilliant signing.

"All the Premier League games are shown on Sky Italia, and I managed to watch every Liverpool game last season. The club is in my heart. I had all my highlights at Liverpool. I still speak with Stevie and Carra, as well as Pepe Reina and Dirk Kuyt.

"The first months for me at Roma were hard, learning a new language and settling in, but I am happy here and enjoying it. We can have a really good season and I hope Liverpool can, too."

4-8 weeks is devestating. You just know we'll spend about £8m on some mediocre centre mid as cover now and thus will have to do with yet another £5m attacking midfielder. Argh.

Apart from that, excited about the player.

Don't let anyone tell you you need to be physically imposing to succeed in midfield in England either, and Aqualani isn't ... load of mythological bollocks.
