So yeah, thread bump time... I am seriously digging latter-day Rotting Christ. I never got into them in the 90s,but this bombastic sound they've adopted in the last decade is superb. I've bought "Rituals" and "Heretics" off bandcamp to celebrate my modest pay rise.

I've started listening to RC recently too and I fully agree with you. I especially like Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού - it's SOOOOO good I think.

Hello all. Been a while. Glad to see people still posting in here.

Just wanted to do a bit of (pretty shameless) self promotion. My Band, Byzanthian Neckbeard, have just released an EP (which is pay what you want on our bandcamp) and we've a pre order up for our new album that comes out next weel (Nov 1st)

https://byzanthianneckbeard.bandcamp.com.

If you feel so inclined to come check us out, we'd love for you to give us a listen!

Cheers all!
And when you find yourself along the untrodden path
Remember me with a smile, a drink, a gesture or a laugh
And a toast for the man who loves every hour of every day
And a feast for the friends and faces met along way
Gratitude

Heilung on Saturday in Copenhagen. Completely different from anything I've ever been to, but it's pure magic! Do yourself a favor and check them out if they're near you. I read a review of their only second ever concert in Metalized (Ithink) and the writer was blown away giving them 10 out of 10. A couple of days later tickets came on sale for a gig in Copenhagen and I bought one. It was hands down the best concert with a band I didn't know I've been to for ages. So different, so much atmosphere and so intense.

This one has my attention at the moment...

Danish black metal band, Orm, put their latest album out in 2019. 2 songs of appr. 24 mins each. No more, no less. The album is fckin ACE!

The second track "Bær solen ud" (Carry the sun out) is beautiful imo. Especially the last 6mins are epic in my ears at least... ;)

Please give them a listen if you like black metal. You'll not be disappointed... (I hope) And no... I don't know any of the members - it's just brilliant!

If you like the epic/melodic strain of black metal then "Véhémence - Par le sang versé" is a great 2019 album for you to check out, or the latest Midnight Odyssey if you're looking for doomier tempos.

I also highly recommend Darkestrah if you haven't heard them before (never mind the crap name), even if it's just to say you've now heard black metal from Kyrgyzstan.

Orm and Véhémence! Yall are talking my language now! I'd add in Vanum's Ageless War and that's basically the best black metal triumvirate from last year.

Btw if you're giving Darkestrah a chance, I'd start with "The Great Silk Road". Some of their earlier material sounds a bit dated: weak production, mechanical drums etc.

Giving Vanum a spin now, never heard of them..

The new Ruins of Beverast album is another monster. Took me longer to get into than their other works; Alexander never does the same thing twice and on this one he's brought in a bit of gothic vibe and a lot more clean vocal work. This track is the album closer and encapsulates the scope of the album very well. It's also a great, great song in its own right.

I just found it on YouTube. If you type in Black Sabbath slapback you should find it. I believe Geezer and Tony weren't that impressed it had surfaced as it was considered below par. But to me any outtake from Heaven and Hell must be good as that is in my top ten albums of all time.

I'm afraid I have only seen them on their final tour at the O2 in London and for some reason missed Heaven and Hell in Bournemouth before Ronnie died.

Thanks for the link, will have a good look later.

Edit: just had a brief look and see a lot of comments about setting Bill on fire  :) love it.

thanks mate, on reflection i think i put in slapjack lol

regards the song, i can see why the lads dropped it, it's pretty poppy for them, on a dio album it would work, too poppy for sabbath (tho a classic fill riff in the middle, iommi must have literally hundreds he underused, so many of sabbath's outros come in with a different riff and i think, fuck, that's awesome and it's fading out already >:(

I'm not much of a doom metal listener but this latest effort from the Italian group Abysmal Grief is great - church organs, lots of groove, not sluggish like a lot of doom. "Many fine people are saying" this is one of the albums of 2021, and I agree!

Not sure anyone interested in my niche metal is still frequenting the thread :D, but this is a fantastic band I recently discovered. Their theme is "traditional mining in Germany and Europe", which makes a point of difference from the usual satanic and (shudder) nationalist themes that run through black metal. Highly recommended to fans of Havukruunu, it has that same backbone of melodic lead guitar, galloping rhythms and a great mix of anthemic and berzerker vocal styles:
