Haven't played a skating game (one of the tony hawks) in a good few years. I heard the first one was great but since I'm a casual gamer and Skate was a more realistic game I never took the plunge thinking I might of had to put in some hours before I could enjoy. So basically I'm asking can you just pick up and play?

Lo is playing it right now, having NEVER played a skating game. She is enjoying skating around trying to kill my character. It uses the RS to do tricks, so really, really intuitive

Might give it a bash since I bought Tiger Woods 09 on the Wii yesterday which I'm fairly disappointed with especially the putting that has changed from last years game.

It is indeed, the rails and stairs are much more involved, nice hips and banks to play on also.

Jim....I came with a few points of you on that 1st spot :D

How do you leave the board to jump a barrier then land back on it?

The books? Was hard to get a decent line going, but hit a flip, grind, flip manual, flip and you can get a semi decent score.

My brother got this (sure half just to get the free shirt from Gamestation ;D)

Having played just about every Tony Hawk's game since the beginning though, I have to say I'm not really into this, the controls seem a bit fiddly.

It's gone for a realism over the Hawks series. Rather than trying to hit as many moves in one as possible, it is about skating lines. The RS becomes second nature after a while.

just after playing the skate 2 demo i downloaded the skate 1 demo as i haven't got enough for 2, and it just seems about the same to me, skate 2 is probably better because you can get off the boards, but i found it stupid that if i try to grind a rail and hit it, it moves the rail so i have to fanny around with putting it back in position i guess (i just gave up on the rail and did something else ;D)

the right stick thing just feels right from what i played, and i like how you don't just press a button and do a grind, it feels pretty rewarding when you do it yourself though it seems to balance for you? only played with it a little but i definitely want one of these games, not sure which but the first one is only £10 in game when they get some stock in

The 1st one is very good, but very frustrating when you miss a trick. You need to make sure you use session markers alot. You can now do plants on this one that you couldn't previously. Skate is only £10, I say get it and get some practice in, as soon as Skate2 is cheaper pick it up.

Frustrating me so far. Finding it fairly difficult to line stuff up, hitting ramps and rails etc. Think some of it is the camera angle, some of it the unforgiving analogue stick movement. Shall stick at it tohugh.

Change to a higher angle, I did and it has helped loads. The stick WILL become second nature after a while. Remember that a single flip trick may be all you can physically do, don't try to string together loads of tricks like you would in THPS

Tip: Take the middle drop. Do Not try any rotations, just you speed, air and a simple grab trick, tweaked, then let go in plenty of time will see you get 3-5k points. Hit the tranny and try to get in a 540 tweaked grab. From there try and jump the river into a quick grind, hit the next tranny for a minimum 360 flip or grab. You should then be able to do a couple of tweaked grabs to the finish. Took me well over 20 attempts to beat him.

Beat the fucker, you were spot on too, hit the middle ramp with simple grab, momentum should take you all the way then.

Got out of that bowl eventually, just hold down A and press forward.

You had any luck "killing" the 'Alphabet'?

i found the far right "gap" into the flatbank best you could do a flip and a 360 and gets you a good score. Wait till you get to the one where you play SKate with the two pros and the tailslide ones there driving me mad!

Better. As ropey as the walking around movement is, it is a lot better than not bein able to do it.

Disappointed with Skate 2.  Doesn't offer anything of real substance over the original.  There's just something missing in this version that the original had and I can't quite put my finger on it.  Moving objects around doesn't really add to the game at all.
