I actually think I'd find it even more depressing if them or Arsenal won it.

This thread is a bit miserable. Some quality posts that I find it hard to disagree with,
I just think it's a bit ridiculous that it's taken the Mancs walking through West Brom
to trigger it. What did people expect? It's not in West Brom's DNA to make it awkward
for them. They can't spoil games. Tonight hasn't really made me more miserable, I kind
of expected it. It's the Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Bolton games that pissed on my
chips. 1-0's, two with late goals, all without playing well.

Was thinking about this last night after reading through some of the posts hoping that
West Brom would get something out of this game.  I mean, don't get me wrong but it would've been nice if they had but all in all, i think many were already accepting the fact that United would get the 3 points, be it 0-1 or 0-5 as they did.

But the concern really comes into play when you ask about our games.  We would like to get
3 points but will we?  Given the recent form it seems not.  Sure, this seasons been different compared to recent times but it seems like things are 'back to normal' where United are concerned.

And there in lies the difference, you would accept United to get the win be it in a last minute goal or something like that but when will we?  Do we have confidence in the team to scrape a win from no-where?

I just hope that tonights game is different.  We really are looking a bit slow coming out
of the blocks and need to get the early goal or a goal before half time to settle the nerves.   I think thats all it is, its just nerves.  The players and staff know we're the closest we've ever been to winning the league and this could be playing on them.  Getting the lead and building on that woud hopefully help settle this.

Can't wait for the first one of our players to tell us how there going to give it all they've got as we're still in it ::)

Of course technically we are, but I don't see the mancs blowing it now and our best chance for donkeys has been blown away by poor decisions from Rafa and some gutless dire displays from the players.

Next season will be even worse. We've led for much of this season so next season we have to challenge again and I'm wondering how deflated the players will be if we end up second or even lower. It will imo knock the stuffing out of a few of them as they'll know our chance was blown.

The heat really is on Rafa now.

Out of nowhere to win the league at the expense of those that have been challenging for years? Only seen as breaking the top for, they go on and blow them away by winning the title. Hilarious.

I'd laugh my tits off.

Stussy has it right earlier in the thread. You're in a good position now but you were in a fantastic position a few weeks ago. You had everyone playing catch up and should have made more of your fixtures to keep top spot.

I'd also agree with Juan Loco about your defence. Your defence does nowhere near enough helping the transition of play up the pitch. Agger is your best at it and his situation seems up in the air. Even so, with a defence seemingly set up to do little more than defend (sounds a bit daft but anyway) you still ship stupid goals.
Add in Mascherano who doesn't offer much going forward but is excellent at screening the back four and you have to ask questions.

You need more adventurous fullbacks and more pace in the team. IMO the two best fullbacks in the world right now are Alves and Evra, and their attacking skills are on par if not better than their defending.

ps. If Rafael Benitez could sign any United player, what are the odds on that player being Ji Sung Park? I reckon he'd do a great job for you on the right and he's a 'Rafa player'.
If it bothers you that much that your wife couldn't join the 'Coloured Society', I suggest you divorce your wife and marry a black woman.  Problem solved.

Why would Rafa want to sign a Sheffield United player?

And if you check your stats - Ji Sung Park does not play for Sheffield United.

When the Mancs are struggling - usually the referee gets involved.

Struggling against Bolton at home - Ref awards a dodgy pen.
Struggling against Blackburn away - Ref ignores an elbow on the 'keeper
Struggling against West Brom at home - Ref awards a disgraceful Freekick
Struggling against West Brom away - Sends their captain off and books four or five others. Then allows an offside goal to help the goal difference. Then ignores a rugby tackle from Vidic and doesn't send Ferdinand off for a professional foul.
Struggling in the cup? Allows an offside goal. Sends a player off. Awards a penalty
Scraping past in the FA Cup? Disregards a clear handball by Scholes

There are loads of examples of this so far this season and they won't be the last.

You can say it's "Luck" but how much "Luck" have we had (For instance?)

Stoke goal wrongly disallowed
Third goal against Everton
Blatent Penalty ignored against Man City

And then that's not even taking into account the basics.

Telling a referee to 'Fuck off' and calling them 'a c*nt' repeatedly, the officials would have you believe is a cardable offence and yet Manchester United players do it regularly. Why is this permitted?

Why can Rio Ferdinand and Vidic repeatedly commit professional fouls and nothing is ever given?

All these things are facts and the media - who bleat on about every subject but one endlessly - entirely and utterly and completely ignore this one.

Why is that?

Why is it that officials can be called 'cheats' and 'robbers' and then the chief of FA Refs is accused of all sorts - and nothing is done? The charges are quietly dropped and the media doesn't report it?

Even if you ignored everything else - what about Ronaldo and Rooney and others diving - again bookable offences. Why aren't these punished in the way the rules state? Why doesn't the press comment on it? Why isn't it reported?

I'm quite happy to shut the fuck up - IF someone can explain to me why a media desperate and hungry for any story no matter how stupid and facile repeatedly and wilfully doesn't address something that pretty much every fan in the country is now starting to think.

There is something rotten at the core of English football. It doesn't take a genuis to know it's obviously money related - and perhaps more than that.

But why is it not investigated?

How come it's always 'kept quiet' and brushed under the carpet.

I'm all for 'luck' and 'the luck of the draw' and 'these things happen'

But. When they happen EVERY WEEK. Well that's pushing 'luck' too far. It's just not credible past a certain point.

Is it because the press are spineless and gutless? Is it another reason? Why don't they even answer what other people are thinking? Why isn't it seen as a story? Are they scared of Manchester United? Are they scared of Ferguson? Is there anything dodgier than even that going on?

Jesus, you are an embarrassment to all liverpool fans.   Fucking hell!

It does seem like Rafa pays a lot of heed to work ethic.

I still believe that Keane's problem is the lack of playing time with Torres. It took them a while to gel at the beginning of the season (peaking, almost, in the Goodison Park game) but then Torres went and got injured. Maybe they need time to gel again. It is unfair to compare them with the Gerrard/Torres partnership (which seems to have clicked back in straight away) as that has had 1/2 a season to get going. Having said that he didn't help himself on Monday by sticking so close to the Everton defenders that I am suprised any of our own players could see him

Why haven't we caught up since 2005?

Nemanja Vidic - Spartak Moscow to Manchester United (7 mil)
Patrice Evra - Monaco to Manchester United (5.5 mil)
Michael Carrick - Tottenham Hotspurs to Manchester United (18.6 mil)
Carlos Tevez (Loan-Permanent Deal £30m)
Anderson (FC Porto, £8m rising to £20.4m),
O Hargreaves (Bayern Munich, £16.8m rising to £20.2m),
Nani (Sporting Lisbon, £8m rising to £17.3m),
Berbatov - Spurs - £30.75 million.

6 Players over 17million, two starts regularly this season. We haven't got that luxury.
However, if we'd have taken maximum points in most of the games you'd expect us to with aspirations to the PL, we'd be well ahead and they'd be trying to catch us up this season. Since 2005 we've not just failed to get to their level, we've failed to secure our home points never mind the away points.

Beckham scored again, if anyone's interested. I know it's not Premier League but not much is going on other than our lead and the Toon looked doomed.
