Wow, that was simply unbelievable by Bolt, I think he could get into the 9.5s soon on a fast track with a bit of wind behind him, I think he'll get the 200m record aswell, fairplay to Michael Johnson for saying he'd be happy if Bolt got the record.

I've been a Asafa Powell fan for quite some time and hoped he would get gold, feel sorry for him really, but even he acknowledged how good Bolt is

Powell was a broken man when they interviewed him afterwards he could hardly speak, it's not losing to the greatest 100 metre sprinter in the world and the fastest man there has ever been, it was performing so badly he didn't even get a medal.

When you think that Usuain pulled up and didn't even really go for it and he still destroyed the field, was thumping his chest in celebration with ten metres to go, and still shattered the world record, that's got to count as one of the great sporting achievments, just utterly supreme.

Great day at the Olympics.

Bolt's win was amazing, and Britain winning loads of medals.

That third place in the medals table is looking within reach.

What was also cool was that Thompson and Dix seemed thrilled to get Silver and Bronze.

It's nice to see all Olympic medals being respected.

Bolt not only won, but he did so with a dominance and a swagger that burns brightly in so few in world sport. This was the Olympic run, the Olympic race. What an awe-inspiring achievement, what a stunning, time-warping run.

Muhammad Ali-esque. The swagger, the swagger of it all, the genius and swagger of it all.

It's nice to see all Olympic medals being respected.

That happened in the last Olympics in the marathon, after that Brazilian guy was knocked off course by the idiot who ran onto the track, once he got a medal he didnt care, all he wanted was a medal...

Very late to the thread but wow, wow, wow what a day. All started with Phelps' seventh by a fingernail and ended with perhaps the most incredible show of sprinting prowess the world has seen (Johnson's 200m is still up there but by 15:21 on Wednesday that too could have been surpassed). In between we had Britain dominating in the velodrome and picking up medals on & in the water.

Just been a fantastic day and a privilege to watch. Now let it all start again with the marathon in an hour or so.

Took over a week, but Canada finally got some medals. We're still crap at this Summer Olympics thing though.

What a performance, nothing will come close to that at this olympics or maybe even all year as a sporting achievment, Michael Johnson said he can see him cracking through to the 9.5 seconds at some stage, he pulled up and started celebrating early, could have caned the record even more, what a superstar.

Completely agree

Just amazing.

He psyched out everyone on the starting line when he was messing around and clowning around. He's just so unbelievably cool and relaxed.

Aye, I'm feeling jet-lagged!

It was such a good day. Phelps and Bolt were amazing, as were all our GB lot. The cyclists and rowers were fantastic, but special mention to Becky Adlington. Two golds at 19? Not bad.

Adlington and Wiggins' performances were almost disconcerting - it is weird seeing British athletes dominating so imperiously. More power to them though, long may it continue.

Would love Paula to finally get the gold but after Athens and now the stress fracture it feels like the Olympic chapter of her sporting life is destined to be remembered for what might have been. Given the heat, humidity and her injury just finishing in a half-decent time will be an achievement.

If this course was ever replicated for a public marathon it would be very tempting, looks great!

Sensible, cautious pace so far. Good to hear the temperature is lower than expected but 22C is still going to climb.
