I've technically had 2 warnings for 'detrimental use' of the broadband connection between 9am and 9pm. They have threatened to suspend my account or even terminate it.

They have not explained what 'detrimental use' is but looking online virgin media consider 350GB of total data (upload and download data) between 9am and 9pm over a 28 day period as detrimental use.

If they do kick you off, can't you just go with another provider or do you have to pay your contract in full (12/18 months?)?

Well its technically a breach of your contract so you'll have to pay your contract off. Why? Have you reached your 3 warnings?

They are not accusing you of illegal downloading (even if thats what you are doing

)

Iplayer, steam, xbox live, PSN, youtube etc all can contribute towards 'detrimental use'

I'm deciding which provider to go with and virgin looks like the best option, it's just that I 'occasionally' (

) use torrents to 'obtain' films and stuff.

Do it after 9pm and you'll be sound. It's only heavy downloading in peak time they care about.

How shit is this? Whenever I am downloading anything the maximum speed I get is 180-190 Kbps. Its the same always at all times of the day whether I am using torrents or rapidshare or anything else.

Any suggestions for better ISPs here in NY?

I download a fair amount of stuff, never had an issue with them. I dare say others will come along and tell you otherwise though.

Managed to increase it from 1.19 with a bit of fiddling. Think that's my limit though

Have to wait till BT Infinity is installed in my area which is December I think.

i can only think improvements somewhere by someone are being made, started off with 6meg, then 9 and now 13, up to 20meg supposedly but like they say 'up to'.

My broadband speed is fucking shocking from Sky it's never been great but in the last few days they seem to have cut my speed by half.

Must be because I cancelled all my Sky TV packages but kept broadband unlimited I will give it a few days and it doesn't go back up I will ring them and give them some shit.

I will be glad when we get BT Infinity in this area sometime next year.

Strange it got the info from the Dublin server.
