Two an a Half notes? Fuckin hell it must be dodgy stuff that.

You'd think so, wouldn't you... but far from it. OK so there are no butterflied king prawns on the menu and the meat is on the bone- but that's always the best anyway- but there were four chicken curries, one lamb,  two vegetarian options (irrelevant, obviously), salad, naan and plenty of pakora and bhajia.

Funny that this thread has just been bumped as I was just watching Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares. The episode with the curry house in Nottingham.

Had a plate of rice, dhal and aubergine and potato curry with salad and yoghurt at my mates house after the pub a couple of weeks back. It's a cliche but restaurant food isn't even fit to lick the masala of home cooked Indian food.

can't beat that. Costs a bit to get all the spices together but they last ages. Just made Jamie Oliver's recipe for chicken tika masala . Stick it in the fridge so the spices all mingle overnight and it will be just right tomorrow.

Dhal is lentils, really nice.

My mates parents are from India, and his mums food is incredible. When he comes round ours we have lasagne or sausage and mash. When I go round his we have feasts. Rice with peas and onions in it, dhal which is like a thick lentil broth, aubergine and potato curry, with salad and greek yoghurt.

My favourite is keema with chapatis. Mince lamb with finely chopped potato, peas and mushrooms in it. Seriously, Indian food in a restaurant isn't that nice compared to the stuff my mate gets cooked for him at home.

Get some monkfish and cut it into tikka sized chunks and marinade it like that overnight then roast it in the oven tandoori chicken style. Serve with a red onion salad and an ice cold beer. Tastes amazing.

Ok, I've seen this mentioned several times but what exactly is Chicken Madras ? I live in Madras and have not once heard of this dish.  So, I would really like to know what it is, especially since it seems so popular.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

you know we have the best indian food in England  ;D

It's not one I've cooked but I think you'd say it's chicken with lots of chili and other spices, so it's quite spicy hot. Too hot for my palate. It is served with a sauce and rice and or bread.

I guess we have a lot of Anglicized dishes based on those originally from India.

The #1 in the uk is apparently chiken tika Masala which is based on butter chicken but is served with a lot of sauce.

I think the indian restaurants in England are very good but maybe don't serve and present the food as you'd expect, it's also our custom to fight the spicy chili heat with cold beer   ;D

The names of curries outside Indian/Pakistan/Bangladesh are totally fictious. They are made up words that do do exist in I/P/B. They are used commonly just so we have some kind of idea about the spicyness and hotness of the curry. If you asked for a chicken tikka massala in Bangalore I suspect they would probabley advise you to come to Engerrland.

Does anyone know any caloric values for the curry dishes in this thread.

They are all delicious obviously, but I've always wondered what the calorie/nutrional facts are in south asian food.

I think its a safe assumption that they're not ideal health food, but with the use of vegetables/spices and proteins they don't sound unhealthy either.

Prob depends on how much oil/cream/yoghurt etc is in them.

Curries aren't always hugely calorific - depends on how rich they are (and how many lagers you have with them  ;D :hally)

alright I guess that opens up the second question  ;D -

much like a fine wine paired with an italian feast, what Lagers are you lot drinking with a good curry.  Something that obviously balances out the spices but still opens up the palate.

Personally I think a stella or carlsberg suits me just fine, but I'd throw in a Fosters occasionally as well.
