So it was discussed at board level, though not at an official board meeting. All looks a bit like how the catholic church dealt with dodgy priests.

It's exactly like the catholic church. Pay hush money and move the abuser on to somewhere else.

Here's the 1996 Dispatches documentary in full :

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/AixfLC8oGPY&amp;feature=youtu.be" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/AixfLC8oGPY&amp;feature=youtu.be</a>

I remember that. 20 years on and one of the most telling comments is from Ken Swales who says that he couldn't believe it because football is a 'man's game' - a macho sport. A real problem with sexual abuse against children is the obsession with celebrity and political (some real and some imaginary) paedophile rings when the truth is that the vast majority of sexual abuse is carried out by family members and family friends or people who get themselves into positions of trust like football coaches, priests, scout masters, teachers.

Be shocked by this of course but remember that there are thousands of children being abused every day by 'ordinary' people.

Four police forces are investigating. I suspect there will be more charges brought.

Some of the sentences handed out to these offenders are an absolute farce.

Yep - 4 years in prison for raping a young boy. Madness.

Just heard on the radio there of someone getting two and a half years, I mean what kind of a deterrent is that?

Even the 9 years he got in 1998 was lenient. I think the courts would deal with any new convictions much more severly.

Glitter was convicted of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault, and one of having sex with a girl under the age of 13 and got 16 years.

Maybe more comparable is Chris Denning - 21 sex offences between 1969 and 1986, against 11 boys, the youngest of whom was eight. He got 13 years.

With this kind of thing, I don't think any punishment would be a deterrent. The only possible deterrent would be an increased likelihood of getting caught

The sentences are increasing, they are much longer than what they once were.

4-5 years is now 9-16, sometimes more, for similar, or sometimes less charges

Surely the FA would never be involved in trying to cover something like this up simply to protect their own position in the sport?

They would surely never do that as they are an excellent sports body.  :o >:(

Eric Bristow suggests that this wouldn't have happened if they were 'proper men'

Staggering.
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Thought that c*nt had died years ago. Most normal people would be sympathetic to kids who have suffered sexual abuse ,  it is very strange that Bristow appears implicitly  to be partly blaming  the victims.

Stayed out of this thread as I have a close personal (female) friend who is a survivor of sexual abuse, plus I'm acquainted with several others.

It's not sports related, nor boys or young men but I just wanted to say Eric Bristow is a massive tw@t.

Thank you.

I've kept my council on here due to my own childhood experiences - however there is a report tonight on the Telegraph website - which, if confirmed starts to question whether the authorities are prepared to do something about the evil in our midst.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/11/29/chelsea-made-secret-payment-player-child-sex-abuse-claim/

Paid off in the last three fucking years.

I want to cry.

As for that fucking c*nt Bristow, I hope the next time we hear of him is a fucking footnote at the bottom of the Guardian sports page with a single line sentence announcing the neanderthal caveman has croaked it.

Just wanted to say well done to everyone that has spoken publicly about what they have had to endure, both at the time and the impact on their lives. Can't imagine how horrendous it must be.

Would like to see our club make a statement about it all, even something simple like stating their policies or condemning it.
