Really needs to be playing AM and not LW.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez admitted after the match that the manner of his side's victory had stunned him and he stated: "My problem is that I don't have words to express the things that I feel at this moment"

Was one of his weakest games today, but at least most of the others had a stormer.

He has struggled in the last couple of games. He seems to be rushing his decision making a bit. Probably an experience thing.

Looked off the pace a bit the last 3 games he's been in
Needs to start at AM to get the best out of him as I think he's getting a bit mixed up switching positions

I think the fact that he plays on the wing has a lot to do with his performances. I think he is much much better in the N°10 role, and I would be happy if we get Moses because we would have the opportunity to give him the N°10 role.

I'm not worried, he is a fantastic talent and he'll show us how good he is in the games to come just as he did last season.

He gets tired, doesn't he? Lots of reasons for this, and we have to remember how young he is - he needs protection and, dare I say it, resting from time to time.

This lad is going to be something special. He is getting clattered left and right though. We really need to protect him a bit better. My one issue is his ball retention, he needs to pass it a bit quicker. But being only 21 he'll come into his own. Not the best game from him today but still head and shoulders above a lot of other premier league middle men.

Inter must be kicking themselves.

In the first half he was good, dribbling was brilliant and got plenty of space every time he drifted inside between the lines. In the second half he struggled to get into it and when he was moved inside, he played too much like a forward rather than an orchestrating number ten that you would want, even on the counter.

Prefer him to Aspas inside. We lose fluidity in possession when Aspas has the ball between the lines, certainly compared to Coutinho.

A few Suarez rollockings and he will certainly be passing the ball earlier.

He's being targeted for the some 'treatment' from defenders because they know he's maybe our biggest creative threat.  When Suarez gets back, it will be better as they will have two huge threats to worry about (obviously, talking about creative here - Sturridge is also a massive threat for them).  I don't think Aspas has done enough to keep Suarez on the bench.  Even a half-fit Suarez is better.  He'll go straight back into the team once the suspension is up.

That seems to be the only way teams can deal with him - kick fuck out of the lad. He needs more protection.....

Wasn't his best game today, but given we had scored so early, I didn't think we would be attacking too wildly and he didn't have a load of time on the ball or a lot of the support that is usually around him.

It depends on where we play Suarez.  If we play him on the right, then that is Hendo's place gone.  If he's behind Sturridge, then it's Aspas.

Says a lot when one of our most consistently brilliant players, who we've already started to rely on quite a bit, has an average game against Man U yet we still come away with the result.
The players and the manager, everyone talks about the emphasis on the 'team' rather than just one player, and it's showing already.
Wasn't long ago when it was all down to one or two star players to do it all themselves in a lot of games.
Loving what I'm seeing so far, long may it continue :)

It seems like we bought Aspas to fill the Suarez role so won't have to change the system too much when Luis eventually makes his return (and other times he's unavailable).  That will be our main formation I think, unless Moses becomes undroppable. I'm sure there'll be a few games in which we play Coutinho no. 10 though, Suarez going to the left/right then maybe.

It's blatantly obvious teams are going to be under orders not to give wee Phil a yard of space. He's mobbed when he's on the ball and I think this season is going to be tough for him unless we can sort out some protection or he figures out how to use it to our advantage.

Luis will be back soon and there's only so much man marking that can be done without the opposition opening up space.

I don't think Aspas fills the Suarez role at all. Nobody can fill in for Suarez. I think we'll have a front three of Suarez Sturridge and Moses more often than not during the autumn, with Coutino or Henderson in behind.

It won't be anything rigid - I think we'll go for a shape or an idea for 9 outfield players and then drop Suarez in there.

Not a chance..or margin of error has been tiny so far. Having Suarez on the pitch is going to be a massive help for us when killing off a game.
I mean, he is our best player and all that.

The style we have played in 2nd half's haven't suited Coutinho. So it isn't a surprise that he hasn't had great impacts in them or completed the 90.
I think we all have to remember that he is still developing as well. Suarez back will allows us to use him off the bench every now and then.

This.

We have now earned 22 points from a possible 24 without Suarez in the league under Rodgers. It's quite clear that we don't really miss him and actually excel without him.

Correlation isn't causation. A few years back, we had a great record without Stevie..ofcourse some would say we were better without him but come on, really.

Over the course of a season, we will need him in a big way. And there is nothing wrong with that, it's what he  is paid to be.

I wouldn't read too much into his performance today.  It was quite clear that the longer the game went on, the less we were going to commit bodies to attack.  He is a player who thrives from having options on the ball.  Today he didn't have many very often.

This was a game for him to retain possession and draw fouls.  He did this reasonably well.  Sturridge did this brilliantly.

If we had more physical options on the bench, they would have been used earlier.  Moses would have suited this game.

I mentioned this in the Aspas thread, but I'll say it here as well; today wasn't his type of game. We played Counter attacking football a lot of the time, and we had Coutinho up forward for the counter (due to lack of forward numbers to start tbf) instead of in the midfield spraying ball forward for players to hit on the counter. Coutinho  thrives on having options to pass long to (how we will play counter attacking football in the future when we have more options with Moses and Suarez coming back), or on having close options in the final 3rd for little dinking through balls or one two's (how we play most of the time). Today just wasn't his type of day to perform the magic he usually produces. Not that he was bad today like, just not as good as he can be.

Think Moyes took Philippe's bewilderment as to who the fuck he is was before he joined United a wee bit too personal.

He isn't having a massive impact because we're playing tight, defensive, very physical games where he's surrounded by two or three opposition defenders every time he receives the ball. He's part of a winning team and that is what is important, his output will get better later on in the season when the league has settled down.

What I like about him is even though he is small and he is brutally tackled, he will just get up and try again. Play without fear, Downing would have been a star if he had that type of attitude.
