YOU DIDN'T BOOK THE DAY OFF!!!!!!

Your Mac will be annoyed. Macs need loving. Macs are the same as puppies. Would you leave a puppy in a box whilst you go to work...

I thought not.

Must be too exciting waiting to get home to a new toy.

My head would explode waiting for a new PC/laptop to play with (almost did with the PS3... I rushed home to greet a massive box full of shredded paper- which was a bastard to clean up!)  :D

You'll also want this (the top two links 2007 blah blah's) - for above applications

and before you do any of the above (good time to tell you, at the end) you'll want to install this to stop the apps phoning home.

Yeah, you need to turn them on. Hold the apple button (cmd) and comma (remember this, this is how you get into the preferences of nearly every application on mac) - then go to tabs and check the first couple of boxes

Yeah, all comes with familiarity. The more you use it the more simple the OS becomes, when I say simple I mean efficient ;)

Went to PC World earlier to check out the Macbook, and my dad also wanted to check out what Vista was like seeing as we're ordering a new PC tomorrow.

Liked the Macbook- already seemed as though I was familiar with it (I'd already used the old imacs at school a few years back). Really liked the keyboard, and the whole thing looked slick.

Checked out Expose and compared it to Aero. Aero looks much cooler, but Expose seems to be more practical. Can't wait to get the PC to play about with Vista, or the Macbook (if I do get it) to play about with OSX.

Got a good deal with Dell, and my dad also blagged a free 3 Year's warranty out of them for the PC. I might look around tomorrow to see if I can get a decent Dell laptop, and see if they'll throw the 3 year's warranty in as well (which is a big reason I'm leaning towards the Macbook). If I can get a 2GB Dell, with decent processor and HD, with that warranty extended for the £600 mark then I'll probably end up getting that... if Apple do indeed start the free ipod/printer thing next week though...

Really starting to get confusing again.

You've got to be shitting me, Expose is at least 1 million times cooler imo. You're right though, it's way more practical and far more flexible (you can do other things with it besides pressing f9).

Aero is a gimmick, Expose is an efficiency tool.  I'd sooner use the taskbar than aero, personally.

If you argue with my on expose v aero, not only am I going to kick you in your nuts but I'm also going to make a video of it's coolness.  ;D

You're right... I'd (normally) use the taskbar over aero (instead of clicking the aero button, then cycling through to your app... it's easier to just click on your app! I said as much to my dad). But, for those with loads and loads of apps open, I can see why Aero could work better than the taskbar. Anyway- for the normal Home user, it's a gimmick. I just thought it looked cooler because of the see through window/cycley thing- it was the first time I was seeing it!

Expose though- way more practical than Aero, and better than the taskbar because you can see everything.

So  :nirnir

Correct. I'm still going to make a cool video about it htough (even if nobody watches, I just need to for my own mental well being). Just not tonight - cos I'm tired.

I'll watch it  :D

I'd rather have something like Expose than Aero though... even though I think Aero looks cooler- that's all it really does- look cool. Expose, whilst still cool, has more use!

Try having 30 photoshop windows open, 10 finder windows and 4/5 applications...

Not easy to find what you're doing via the taskbar.

It gets all the windows you have open, puts them behind one another and lets you scroll through them one by one.

No, not at all. If you have one window open at a time, then it's not going to be much use but for about 95% of people that have much more than that, then it's definitely a time saver.

I'd imagine it would be fairly rare for any laptop not to be pretty much immediately sorted out

Have you ever considered taking training to become more efficiant at what you do - surely there is no need to have '30 photoshop windows open' (Assuming that photoshop isn't crap of course)

:lmao

No Andy, I've got an amazingly efficient workflow that has taken a very long time to refine, thanks though. And yeah, I regularly have a load of windows open, not often 30 in photoshop but often 10 photoshop, dreamweaver, transmit, mail, safari, firefox, camino and others.

Also, your assumption is right, photoshop isn't crap. It's brilliant.

i might have five windows open at a time tops, i doubt very much if more than .1% of people ever have more than that open, unless they've logged into a porn site and its opening new windows for them :)

having 30+ windows open at a time is ridiculous and not needed if you had a decent workflow, i know real PROPER professional designers, i showed them this

To be fair I've had four windows Laptops and they are all 'running inside 15 minutes out of the box'

I'd imagine it would be fairly rare for any laptop not to be pretty much immediately sorted out

Most new laptops you have to burn backup DVDs and fiddle about with things for quite a while. The initial set up on my Compaq laptop, from getting it out the box and then for me to be able to do something I actually wanted to do, was about an hour and a half minimum, but that was near 5 years ago.

Had to wait for XP to 'install' or whatever the fuck it was doing.

This, I got it out the box, opened up it's lid, pressed the power button (didn't expect it to come on!) and then it just asked me a few questions, sorted out languages/log in, it connected up to the network and then I was away. Updated itself to the latest versions of everything, too, I seem to have iLife '08, although I'll probably never use it.

On windows where you use Ctrl + letter for shortcuts, you use the apple button + key

just incase you didn't know ;)

I knew ;)

Can't seem to stop myself trying to press ctrl, though.
