I compare all of these to the Curtis Jones red now. That was worse and just a yellow. No consistency.
Curtis was tremendously unlucky with the deflection off the ball. But the way the law is interpreted it’s a red, because of the bending of the leg bit (I don’t agree with the law here though)

Looking at the Romero one, it doesn’t get overturned if it’s a red. But this tackle was below the ankle (it was an odd angle as he was on the floor) and the force is not deemed too much. It’s touch and go on the excessive force bit of course, but that’s why it won’t have been overturned

Spurs have played well but jesus Newcastle look absolutely shot. They might get better again after a January break, but for now they look like they're totally running on empty.
We play them New Years Day - long may that form continue.

After four defeats and a draw in the last five.

There was a ridiculous piece in the Guardian today about him channelling the spirit of Puskas to give Spurs what they've been looking for... After they've been in the worst form in the league for a month.

Just had a thought, might be a bit out there like, but does anyone thing that this result might partially be explained by the extent of Newcastle's injury problems?

Newcastle's impressive goal difference after that 8-0 thrashing of Sheffield United has pretty much been cancelled out in the last 2 matches.

Romero's is the worst tackle I've seen this season.

It was a terrible tackle and completely and utterly unnecessary. 3-0 up and cruising, and there was no honest attempt to play the ball. Romero is genuinely a prick. Refs need to be right on top of him in every game. He's at it all the time.

And when your own team is 3-0 up as well, absolutely insane. He's a liability.

Milan. If they lose they're out completely, could still get second place with a win, if the result of the other match goes their way.

We should just get rid.

Keep it for offside and the goaline stuff, and bin the rest. It’s making refs make mad decisions and the VAR doesn’t over turn it or they themselves make mad calls

Was always surprised at the Drury love-in on here. While he's not as bad as Tyler, he's awful for overdoing it and clearly having pre-written lines on goals. I remember him being absolutely unbearable on Spurs when Pochettino was the manager as well - sounds like a fan.

Completely agree. It should just be for offsides and for things the ref couldn't have seen. It's become the de facto referee of the game and it's leading to even more fury. As you say, the the way things are, refs are actually chickening out of decisions because they're leaving it to VAR. It needs to be the refs doing most of the calls, with VAR helping with things off the ball.

Just studs on the ankle and then bringing the other leg in for a scissor tackle. Nothing to see there.

That was the worst part, although I guess two bare-minimum cautionable tackles, either of which could have been red, in the incident don't add up to a red card, or something...
Since haste quite Schorsch, but Liverpool are genuine fight pigs...
