Markovic is still finding his way here, he is still playing within himself and generally deferring to other players instead of making things happen himself the way it looks like he can do. Having been played mostly at RWB lately hasn't helped in getting him to be more comfortable playing his own game either, he has more responsibility there and has to make more decisions about when to go and when to hold, how to transition intelligently without leaving the RCB in the lurch.
Brendan's thinking may be that having him in the two behind the striker will simplify things in his mind and allow him to play his more natural game, as well as to carry the ball in a very direct manner during quick counters, which we know is his strong suit. In terms of on the ball creativity, he's used to being able to beat defenders with speed rather than skill, and has found it difficult to replicate in the English game where spaces are tighter. I think his passing vision is decent, when he knows before receipt of the ball that it needs to be a one touch pass, he does it very well, and he has shown glimpses of good medium-long pass vision. He just needs to improve on beating one man and finding the pass, he has a tendency for the directness he uses to beat one man leading him into getting challenged by the supporting defender before he can get the ball off of his feet.
