Apparently it's Coutinho, Markovic, Sturridge front 3

Ibe stays RWB

Moreno LWB then.

Any clues as to whether Allen slots in, or are we going to fuck about with defence as well ?
13mins - Bournemouth have gone home. Utd kicked off anyway. Still 0-0 as Smalling passes it back to De Gea.

I like it.
Markovic deserves a chance in a more attacking position.
And also I  think he can link up very well with Sturridge.

From Rodgers comments it seems the defence will stay the same, and Allen/Gerrard to take Lucas' place. You would imagine it would be Allen as Gerrard seemed knackered.

Markovic and Sturridge up top suggests to me BR will play Gerrard in midfield to ping long balls for them to run onto

I've got a feeling that Origi is the real deal, from a couple of games I watched but mainly his interviews there seems to be something about him.

Feel more at ease now the defence appears to have escaped unnecessary tinkering.

A bit worried Gerrard is in the running though....

Cannot stress enough how good I think Markovic is going to become playing inside. Really suits him playing central. Should have a good game tonight

Well the same "source" is saying Allen is on the bench, so you could well be right...

I agree, he just needs to stop trying to pass the ball through opposition players, our attacks/counter attacks often break down because of it.

From various leaks or comments then it seems the starting line-up is clear except for who plays alongside Henderson - Gerrard or Allen. With a midfield pairing of Mason and Bentaleb to face (not to mention the shackling of Eriksen) you've got to imagine it will be Allen. It just makes so much more sense to bring Gerrard on later if we need a goal and give him half an hour to play at 100%.

It's also true that if Gerrard starts he is unlikely to be subbed, and could well be a bit of a passenger for the last 20-30 mins, which does neither him nor the team no favours. It would be great to see him coming on, à la Lampard, and flourishing in that role. Time will tell.

Yeah, that midfield pairing against a high pressing, energetic and very fit-looking (stamina-wise, not looks...) Spurs - on a hiding to nothing, in my opinion...

Coutinho Markovic Sturridge is a mouth watering front 3 if they can click. Spurs give space , and Lazar needs space.

Think Ibe is better at carrying the ball from deep than Markovic and he has the strength to run and take players on where Markovic sometimes just passes the ball inside.

But there lies my reasons for thinking that. I'd want my strongest ball carrier further up the pitch where he can do more damage. Plus, Markovic is great defensively in that role.

Ibe seems a bit more direct than Markovic on the flanks though which is what we need in this shape and particularly against a team like Spurs whose full backs can be got at and who prefer teams to play narrow so that they can press them more easily. Markovic is a better player central and in my opinion should have played central more often this season than he has done. So I think the balance works. Ibe takes players on and creates space inside, Markovic attacks the space and moves forward with the ball behind the opposition midfield.

Hmm yeah true, either way there's a good argument for both of them. ;D Will be interesting to see how Markovic does in a more natural position

I'd still have gone for Allen over Gerrard and possibly Lallana over Moreno (with Markovic at LWB)!

The old knocks are adding up. Ibe to fill in for Sterling with a wonder striker and Sturridge gets a goal sniffer second.

Just stick Gerrard in with Coutinho behind Sturridge. Or Ibe and put Markovic back in. There's no need to change system at all.

It's not really a drastic change, its playing an extra striker instead of an extra attacking midfielder. It was just a suggestion if we get knocks to players who can play in the attacking midfielder role, or he wants to give other strikers a run out.
