Extras- Ricky Gervais returns
« on: July 16, 2005, 04:10:17 pm »
http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/extras/

The BBC Press Release:

Extras is the hotly-anticipated new comedy series from the creators of The Office, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

Ricky plays Andy Millman who, having given up his day job to be an actor, finds he just can't land the big parts.

In fact, he rarely gets a speaking role so spends most of his days stuck in a green room with other extras, envying the A-list stars, with his fellow actor, Maggie Jacobs (Ashley Jensen).

Each week Extras has a different setting and cameo appearances from guest artists including Samuel L Jackson, Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller, Ross Kemp, Vinnie Jones and Les Dennis.

Stephen Merchant plays Andy's agent.

Loking forward to this- seems to have a touch of Larry Sanders about it.

Not given an air-date to it yet? Merely Summer 2005. Can't wait nevertheless.

It starts this Thursday at 9 on BBC 2

Thanks for the info, been anticipating this for seemingly ever, but didn't know it was finally arriving this week. Should be good, though not sure about Les Dennis and 'A-list stars' being used in the same article.

Les Dennis top man! ;D

Sounds quite good this series from what I've heard, looking forward to it.

i'm going to have to wait at least a year to see this, aren't i?  generally takes a while for BBC America to get shows like this one, we ran about a year behind for the Office...

 :no

looks quite good, i'll bet the Samuel Jackson episode is hilarious.  Gervais and Merchant do seem to be trying something else on, one of the charms of the Office was that there were no "stars."

expecting an Extras thread once the series starts...

Jude Law has backed out of Ricky Gervais' new TV project, Extras. Jude cited work commitments as the reason behind him pulling out of the long awaited follow up to Ricky's hit series The Office

Gervais has been all over the TV over the last couple of days. He was on Richard and Judy yesterday - it seemed wrong. Richard Madeley is the antithesis of a talent like Gervais, they shouldn't be on the same programme!

Looking forward to this, even set the reminder thingy.

Thing is no matter what Ricky does from this day forward everyone will always want to go on about the office (I love the office).  I watched the office last night, the episode were he does the dance and gets the boot all on the same day, fantastic.

You shouldn't expect to much from the fist episode, some times these things are low to get going.

Some funny lines, some plain parts - much like the office, will talke a while to get into

I liked it, very promising. very similar sort of humour, i thought gervaises character was very similar to martin freeman as tim.

and i thought ben stiller was a real sport considering he was playing himself as a self-important twat.

my favourite bit "chinese, japanese, dirty knees, what are these"

brilliantly cringeworthy

Extras was very, very good in a Gervais way - saw an episode of The Office a bit later on UK Gold and you could see his progression.

And Katherine Tate was magical straight after - her first bothered sketch at the start of her show will go down in the annals of comedy history - it was so well timed.
