Time for Pegguy to Leave?
« on: February 19, 2002, 12:46:11 am »
Now as much as I like Pegguy, I can't see him starting a game even if Dudek is injured.
Kirkland is more likely to fill in for Jerzy if an injury occurs and Pegguy would have to make do with his customary bench role.

At the same time though he can't be sold and be replaced on the bench by Kirkland because Kirkland needs to be playing games to keep himself in touch for when he is required.
It's a shame really because a player like Arphexad could be playing first team football, and although both Kirkland and Dudek could be injured it's unlikely. Even though Pegguy's attitude is spot on I just think he is wasting his career with us when he could be playing.

What do you lot think?

The fact that either Dudek or Kirkland could be injured is enough reason to keep him, if he wants to stay.  You quite simply need the best keeper on the bench that you possibly can.  Keepers can, and do, get sent off and injured, and you want someone good to come off the bench.  The fact that Peggy has been between the sticks at all this season is good enough reason to keep him.

But, if he wants to leave, I think it would be harsh of PT and GH to keep him there.

I think we will have a hard time keeping Kirkland as Dudek is still young in goalkeeping terms (29), and could remain between the sticks for the best part of a decade.  No aspiring England keeper can afford to stay number 2 can they ?

He knows the situation, and to his credit he has just got on with his job and not moaned about it to the press.

Top loyal lad.  :)

I've been wondering what's keeping him at Liverpool. Apart from the obvious of wanting to be a part of the revival which he deserves as he's been willing to warm the bench behind Sander then Dudek as well as Kirkland. But where are his ambitions. Really? He has shown an abundance of Loyalty to the cause but if there is really no chance of him playing regular first team football when he has the skill to do so, why stay. Just a thought.

Pegguy's a sub keeper- Leicester and The Reds.  The only way he would get a game is to go to Stockport or some French division 1 side.  An ok keeper- but never in the class, and probably not good enough to be second keeper- but saying that he is boss on pens (bar Di Canio)

Pegguy is the perfect 3rd man. Credit to him! I think we have the right mix now.

Dudek who has lots of international experience and he's a great keeper, IMO the best in the PL.
Kirkland, the young, promising goalie for the future.
Peggy, the guy who is satisfied with the odd game and when he plays, he can do the job. Hope he stays around.

I LOVE PEGGUY!

Not only is he a half decent keeper, he's loyal to the club and seems to really enjoy playing for us. I really hope he doesn't go....

Don't get me wrong it's not like I want him to leave, But he must have some sort of aspirations to be a 1st choice keeper. It's clear thats not going to happen with us but   I feel his loyalty is stopping him from asking for a transfer.

He must have felt when Westerveld left that he could challenge a new keeper for the right to play in the 1st team. But then he must have been as shocked as all the rest of us were when we landed 2 keepers. He must want to be playing games and it's not as if we desperately need to keep him.

It must be tough for him though, Knowing his not considered as 1 of the top 2 keepers at the club. His attitude is spot on though whcih does make him a likeable character but I believe it's time for him to move on.
