Person of the Season?
« on: April 28, 2002, 04:50:29 pm »
Dietmar Hamann?  Michael Owen?  Jerzy Dudek?  None of the above.  This season's hero has been Phil Thommo.  The fact that we still had a chance for the title yesterday is down to hard work of Phil and the backroom staff.

Agreed. Although the rest of the backroom staff should take the praise as well. It;'s obviously not easy taking the place of a gret manager but Thommo and the boys had a bloody good crack at it!

Thommo for next LFC Manager.

Agree.

But Person of the season for me, has to be Markus Babbel.

All the above deserve the attention, but compared to what Markus has been through,  ........well it just doesnt compare.
For him to be contemplating playing this season again, if only for 5 minutes is amazing. It would be a disgrace if we dont sing for him on the last day.  Whether the rivers of babylon song or just chanting his name.

I would like to nominate the Club Doctor, Mark Waller, for his quick thinking.

And also the staff at the Broadgreen Hospital cardiothoracic centre

Consultant Cardiac Surgeons, Mr Abbas Rashid, Miss Elaine Griffiths, Consultant Anaethetist Dr Jim Murphy and Consultant Cardiologist Dr Rod Stables, plus the nursing and back-up team.

For me it is Holdsworth from Bolton.

My vote originally has gone to Jerzy Dudek but then I realized if not for Holdsworth injury-time strike that cost Sander's head, we would not have bought our best goalkeeper since Clemence.

And I hope that this time next season I can say the same to Gus Poyet -- he brought us the title by hitting that winner and show GH the need to strengthen the squad more.   :P  ;)

Thanking the hospital ward...very reflective of the situation of our squad  ::) ;D ;D   but at long last it seems we are moving out of it  :D

All people mentioned in this thread are worthy.  There have been so many good things this season, which out-balance the bad by a mile.  Our new players have made everyone sit up while many of our old continue to improve.   More, the dignity, empathy and solidarity of everyone at the Club  and Fans have been incredible.  OK, OK some fans deserve not....but I truly loved the mosaics and the Gala-LFC fans project which examplified the hospitality and respect shown to our European counterparts, not to mention the full support to GH, Markus et al.  We might not have the icing on top - EPL/CL titles - but the results have also been more than we could have expected.

Everyone has done their bit and my person this year is the whole Liverpool Football Club :D

THOMMO!

I don't think that the media have given him (or LFC for that matter) the respect that he deserves.

After the game Toppmoller was interviewed and here it goes:

'This is a dream come true,' he said.

'This is a time for cigarettes and drink and then tomorrow I will go and see Real Madrid play Barcelona. '

'Jokingly, I said I would like to go and congratulate Real Madrid in person on their 100th anniversary, and now it looks like that will happen in the final. '

Quality person he is, but I think his problem would be that he definitely cannot live without the cigarettes -- I saw him for most of the games and he just loves to smoke during games..... ;D
