Great result, I'll be able to watch the game in about 4 hours time (anyone in South Africa it'll be on SuperSport 3 from 22:15).

Now I'm off to watch Man Utd v Norwich...

Up the Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds!~

Thanks Botswana red, gotta find someone with satelite now  ;D and disturb them. :)

Last year the slide shows were great. You got a very good feel for the game I hope they go back to it.

No slide shows this season - they are not allowed any more.  (Premier League closed the loophole that allowed them to do it last year, according to .tv admin.)

with kirkland injured and harrison untried at the highest level, who would replace him?  i think he'll play but his mistake today and being beaten at his near post last saturday wouldn't have gone unnoticed by raffa

I doubt rafa would rush kirkland into the first team, but he is meant to be back by next week so dudek had better have a good game or it could be his last till kirkland's next injury.

if that's right then dudek had better get his finger out of his arse and start to perform close to his best

Great to get a win after going behind, couldn't get a ticket today, what was Mills like. I can't stand that cheatin' fucker, with players like him in the side, it makes victory even sweeter. Once our new players are eligable to play things will get even better. What happened with their goal,  according to the radio ( merseyside) Carra was as much to blame as Dudek.

Mills was a dirty bastard, but to be fair to him, he was probably less dirty than some of their players were.

Some random thoughts.  (All I ever get these days ;D)

Looked up 'dodgy keeper' in the dictionary, found Dudek has replaced Taibbi.  (Although he did distribute well and quickly.)

Finnan's crossing needs to improve.  A lot.

Kewell should stop hitting the keeper with his crosses and corners.

Stevie G:  Spectacular.

Milan:  Just short of brilliant.  A total dervish out there, had no probs beating 3, but could never quite handle that 4th defender.  Scored one, made another, missed at least 2 and showed everyone why MO needed to go somewhere else to get 1st team football.

We played some wonderful 2nd half football against a poor City defense that went after us with hatchets.

We need cover for the 3 strikers we have, Cisse & Baros are going to get pounded.

An exhilarating match.  8)

Kewell should stop hitting the keeper with his crosses and corners.

with nunez, alonso and garcia, id like to think the two above players days will be numbered

finnan will be replaced by one of the said spanish lads when they're fit enough, kewell may have more time but really needs to start performing if he's to keep his starting place

it's been said that raffa likes to retain possession of the ball, kewell and finnan are the main culprits for giving the ball away so much at the moment (both today and last week)

Ratings:

Dudek - Solid but for the error but Carra was at fault to, just a bad defensive mix up. 6

Josemi - Solid throughout, he really does look like the Spanish Carra, pity about the injury, hope it's not too serious. 7

Hyypia and Carra - Overall solid but Carra was at fault for the goal and the idea of pushing the defence further forward may not work with Hyypia. 7

Riise - No better than some of last seasons performances. 6.5

Finnan - Gives nothing on the right wing being honest. No dribbling, poor crossing. 6

Hamann - Usual solid Didi. 7.5

Gerrard - Quiet first half, came to life in the second. 8

Kewell - Here how it goes: Kewell gets ball on the left, crowd get excited, he runs at the defender, few skills, beats one maybe two, than gets stopped by a third or else hit a cross straight at their defence, just not happening for the lad and hasn't been for sometime. 6

Cisse - A quiet game but he came to life late on and started taking the piss out of their defence, improving by every game. 7.

Baros - Anonymous first half, Euro 2004 form in the second. 8

Subs:

Diao - Rafa looks like he'll learn the hard way that Diao isn't a defender, no accidents in this game but he is one waiting to happen. 6

Warnock - Should start against GAK to see how he does, impresses me every time he comes on - 7

Biscan - Not much time but could have done better with that chance at the end. Again he should start against GAK. 6

agree with both them comments, who do you see them coming on for??  pressumably biscan should be in the centre of midfield....

I'd play biscan instead of hamman and warnock on the left with kewell playing on the right instead of finnan.

was unfortunate when josemi went off injured

People should lay off Kewell. .He had a good game. Showed Mills to much of the ball a few times but his work rate was much improved and some of passing was excellent. I think he had a good game today overall. Played in  Cisse one time superbly and a good shot over the top. A solid display from him also becasue SWP was barely involved in the match

what did risse do that was worst then josemi? he never missed a tackle on SWP, he played it simple going forward without giving the ball away.
you gave him only 0.5 more than finnen who looked out of place and unintrested through out the game

Some good some bad- 1st half too much stading around and passing to static players. Second half much better movement and we created a few decent chances. Don't bother with numbers but thought:-

Gerrard and Baros showed the hunger and passion and skill, excellent.
Dudek- never tested and let in one, NOT good enough
Hyypia and Carra- better than against Spurs, but a little fresh as a partnership
Riise and Josemi - good (btw- for Norway Riise storms up the sideline and creates havoc, if Kewell could make a run in once in a while the space would be there for him to be a more credible threat)
Hamman - decent, but offers nothing going forward- need more dynamism
Kewell - some good, some absolute tosh, gives the ball away too much. Needs to run at people more at speed.
Finnan - not a right winger
Cisse - a bit anonymous, but showed some skills. Probably still settling.

Subs
Diao ok, though went for at least one oops
Warnock - exciting, start him against GAK
Biscan - more dynamic than Hamman (passing and running forward more). Start him against GAK.

So, first time since May 1999 that we've come from a half-time deficit to win a league match. Thank goodness that unsavoury statistic is out of the way now.

Just got back from the game!

Crap first half, amazing second half.

I can't honestly remember the last time a half time team talk made a difference to the way we played but today, it was a different team that came out!

Great stuff all round.  The only player I'd single out for critcism was Finnan who looks weak and unsure.

All others improved on their 1st half performances and what more can you ask for.  Effort was shown.

I'm loving Josemi.  Great little move in the first half where he was knocking it over the heads of the city players and running past them.

about 1 1/2 hours ago, must day the first half we were poor but the second half was fantastic and we definetly deserved to win, Milan worked hard all match and deserved his goal while Cisse had a quiet game but still looked dangerous with his pace frightening the city defenders all match,Kewell had another one of those days everytime he had the ball we were urging him to run at that dirty Mills he could have had him beat on a number of occasions ,Finnan was piss poor(he skyed a good chance over as  well) the sooner we get rid of him the better imo also the less said about dudek the better  >:( it was a decent atmosphere as well and it was nice to see stephen warnock coming on he looks a decent young player that makes it 6 matches I have watched the mighty reds at Anfield and we are still unbeaten hehehehe  hey wasnt it funny when big Igor came on and had that decent chance and he completely fluffed it  :D people around me in the kop were pissing themselves good old Igor! :D

Oh yeah, it's been playing on my mind for about a year now - since it first came to my attention. Somehow it's felt inevitable for a while that it would be a new manager who oversaw the end of that depressing run.

I saw it, he was.

Don't think he was - it was a perfectly acceptable back header to Dudek.

Jerzy just missed it completely. I think JC is blameless.

Come on mate, how can he blameless when he knocks a header past the keeper? Ain't saying he should be dropped or whatever but lets say wants in front of us. A combined mistake, from lack of communication and awareness.

The ball was going so slowly when Dudek missed it, it can hardly be JC's fault.

Looks at his positioning - he was getting shoved by Anelka and JC ended up almost doing a back-flip to keep him away.

I can see what you're saying, but I disagree that he knocked it past Dudek.

I was in the front row of the Anfield Road, so must have had THE worst view of it. Saw it on MOTD though and it WAS a mistake by JC. Dudek didn't have time to recover well.

The point is, no matter what yer think of Jerzy in it all. Carra's flick made his job harder. Therefore its a mistake. His was a lesser part in it, but still some of the blame is his.

Who should Warnock and Biscan replace against GAK?

Finnan and Hamann IMO.

Another option other than Diao would have been to send Biscan or Warnock on and move Finnan to right back.

After seeing the goal again I'm still of the opinion it was both the fault of Carra and Dudek.

One thing about playing biscan and warnock (moving kewell to rm?) is that it would be a closer match to a midfield with alonso and garcia than one with hamman and finnan and could help stevie etc. get a headstart on getting used to the changes.

Depends. How fit is Josemi gonna be? I don't think he should be played on tuesdee, whats the point? Stick Finnan at right back, with probably Kewell on the right and Warnock deffo on the left. Stick Igor in the middle for Didi. And maybe give Flo a start up front, dunno who with. Depends who looks the least tired.

I'll give Dudek 5% blame.

Get away with you, carra probably made it about 5 - 10% more difficult for dudek to get the ball that was all, but like you say lets move on to tuesday. I'd like to order a nice 5-0 win please.
