Klopp consistently makes the point that we’re asking too much of footballers. Given that most of us, I assume, agree with that it only makes sense to prioritise during the season. I don’t want to ‘sack off’ the competition but I’d rather we approached it in such a way that minimises the risk of losing players for more important games elsewhere.

This is nonsense. You can control the intensity and stress players bodies go under in training in a way that’s impossible to do in matches. Someone can get injured anytime, obviously. A player can get injured getting out of their car or picking up their child. But the key issue is how much load we’re putting players under and how much recovery time they’re given. This can be controlled by limiting playing minutes and adjusting training.
