League Cup 4th Round 31st October - 1st November
« on: October 31, 2023, 01:22:11 pm »
TUESDAY 31ST OCTOBER

Exeter City v Middlesbrough 19:45
Mansfield Town v Port Vale 19:45

WEDNESDAY 1ST NOVEMBER

West Ham United v Arsenal 19:30 skysports
AFC Bournemouth v Liverpool 19:45 talkSPORT
Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers 19:45
Everton v Burnley 19:45
Ipswich Town v Fulham 19:45
Manchester United v Saudi Arabia 20:15 skysports

Rather than give a couple of lower league clubs a bit of exposure and probably much needed cash tonight, Sky have decided to show a rather boring West Ham v Arsenal and put the sportswashers on TV yet again.

I’d think very unlikely given the choice of other games

wtf? these games aren't getting watched.

That said - I guess it's a good thing to give them some non-big teams to deal with TV wise.

So the two games tonight aren't on the telly?  Is it the same thinking regarding the 3pm kickoffs, they think people won't turn up if the big boys are on TV?

All games on Wednesday involve teams that played Sunday (so couldn’t play Tuesday), bar Chelsea. So if they’re so concerned about nobody tuning in for the other two games tonight, they could surely have moved Chelsea and stuck that on, instead of the nonsense they’ve come up with.

Interesting to see how many changes Ipswich make. They're absolutely flying (9 points clear of 3rd in the league). I fancy them to beat Fulham.

A few lower league teams guaranteed to make the quarters and a couple of good teams out already/will go out. If we're in the hat for the next round you'd really have to fancy our chances. Strong team tomorrow hopefully, prioritise this over Toulouse away as far as non-prem games go.

there will be an absolute shitton of changes, be surprised if more than 2 from the weekend starting 11 starts this one. Still be a strong team of course, but there won’t be any prioritising, they will want to get the Europa group sewn up just as much.

There will be changes but the one off nature of this game makes it more important than Toulouse. Even a draw in France would be a good result for us as there'd be no way back for the others barring a disaster whereas tomorrow we have to get it right.

From the weekend's team I'd keep a few in, probably both full backs, Mac Allister and Jota. Of those I only really see Jota as a pretty likely starter.

I agree with other posters who have mentioned the choice of live tv games. The Exeter v Middlesbrough one last night would’ve been good to put on tv.
Who the fuck wants to watch West Ham and Arsenal or the cheating oil state derby?
So much for the romance of the cup eh SKY tv.

It's like when they put all PL ties on for the 3rd round of the Fa Cup and they both put the reserves out (and both played the week before in the league).

Fans of teams who aren't in the competition would always watch PL teams vs each other, and there's a story there with Rice going back to West Ham, they'd have been mad to not put that on TV.  Utd vs Newcastle is the biggest match after that, it makes sense from a TV perspective, no?

Sky are in it to get viewers.

Agree on Ipswich vs Fulham, that's a really interesting game.  If Chelsea were away, then maybe that game too but PL teams at home vs lower league teams isn't usually as fun.

TUESDAY 31ST OCTOBER

Exeter City v Middlesbrough 19:45
Mansfield Town v Port Vale 19:45

WEDNESDAY 1ST NOVEMBER

West Ham United v Arsenal 19:30 skysports
AFC Bournemouth v Liverpool 19:45 talkSPORT
Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers 19:45
Everton v Burnley 19:45

Rather than give a couple of lower league clubs a bit of exposure and probably much needed cash tonight, Sky have decided to show a rather boring West Ham v Arsenal and put the sportswashers on TV yet again.
We've had a lot of untelevised games so far. Sky is a rip-off.

Not about what I want to watch, there is more to football than the premier league.
Especially if they are showing two games at the same time, one of them should involve a lower league team.

Sky's choice of matches only makes the gap between the PL and lower leagues even bigger than it already is. I've no idea what the payment is for being on TV, but none of the 4 clubs on tonight are desperate for it, whereas it could make a significant impact at a club like Exeter or Mansfield.

Not for Liverpool fans but could be for other fans. Although we are one of the most exciting attacking teams to watch, if Salah and Nunez don’t play then it could well become a bit of a routine /boring game.

Strong or weak (can’t be arsed looking!).

As horrible as seeing United win is, and as mad as it sounds to say, I think I’d rather (Manchester) United went through.

Strong or weak (can’t be arsed looking!).

As horrible as seeing United win is, and as mad as it sounds to say, I think I’d rather (Manchester) United went through.
I can understand why. Give the geordies nothing now.

I hope we win the damn thing playing lower league opponents like the mancs  or Abu Dhabi seem to always do.
