Half time: Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa
« on: September 3, 2023, 02:49:57 pm »
We've been threatening to click in the last few games and today it seems to be one step closer. We're playing some lovely stuff at times and could have put the game out of sight with slightly better finishing and a little more luck.

Equally we've given up a couple of big chances so will need to keep our focus to see this one out.

Only rarely noticed the ref so far which is a pleasant change.
I've just wiped the sticky residue from my bellend onto the television screen. Taste it Leo. You deserve it.
I would honestly let Wijnaldum jizz in my face right now

Fantastic performance. Hope this puts to bed any nonsense about the team not being able to press effectively with Nunez in there and any other narratives that fly about. We look frightening.

Don't think we've looked that great, but Villa haven't really offered anything and we're coasting.  Last 20 minutes of that half was just us knocking it about at the back until Trent tried one over the top, rinse and repeat.
Sit down, shock is better taken with bent knees.

We’ve been great. Thought the midfield would be a problem on the counter but we’ve been great at recovering the ball.

Darwin could easily have had a double.  If he can improve that short touch and passing he'll be a menace in every aspect.

Sublime hit from Szoboszlai

Feels like the greatest club side ever assembled part 2 is in the works!! Gonna be a very exciting next 5 years or so.

Pleasing how solid defensively we've looked again, 2 goals is nice but we know we can do that. Darwin ruining the teams pressing again.

Very good stuff, shape looks good.

Nunez just makes things happen, goal in it for him and Salah today.

Elite technique from Dom. Would like a bit mire calmness from Luiz on the ball.

This is a knock-around so far.

Lovely stuff.

When Nunez hit the bar, it would have been disallowed for Salah being offside because he still was after Nunez's touch.

Yeah very good so far. Superb going forward and solid enough at the back despite playing our 3rd and 4th choice cb’s. Let’s keep this up.

Starting to click nicely, especially once Diaz stopped those suicide no look into the middle passes :D

Some of our best football so far this season.

Nice game so far, good pressing, plenty of control, and a totally intentional Nunez pinball goal. Our passing looked a bit lackadaisical again at the start but improved a lot as the game went on.

They're still getting at us a fair bit but that hasn't translated into many major chances.

We look so threatening going forward, people actually trying to run in behind.

Need to cut out the sloppy errors though which is giving Villa encouragement.

Overall we've been really good.

Trent has been excellent. Really impressed with Szoboszlai and Nunez. They've had their moments, shame Nunez hit the bar but if we can get a third quickly in the second half that should settle it.

Get an early 3rd and hopefully keep a clean sheet

I'm feeling really sorry for Darwin.  The guy just can't miss the woodwork.  Sooner or later it'll click for him and he'll get that fear factor from the opposition and he'll be a real monster

Lovely to see us playing with a functional midfield.

All of our midfielders have each given the ball away a couple of times - but Villa not able to capitalise whgen they did, but we've looked good going forward.  Diaz has defintely been the weaker performance wise - he needs to step it up, as both Salah and Nunez have done much more with the ball when they've got it.

Think our midfield play is so much better this season with Szoboszlai and Mac Allister in there, we've been constantly winning the battles there almost every game bar the Chelsea one.

It's one thing to be worried about Villa. But people have to realize how much we've improved this season.

Good start to the game and nice to get both an early goal and a second. I do think we do need to keep the tempo up though as there is a danger we drop our performance levels and then end up suffering.

But so far so good and nicely done from the red men!

Pretty much in total control of the game. Just a few slip ups in midfield and the backline giving Villa a few chances, they probably should have converted the one.

Otherwise up front Trent is providing the balls and we need to forwards to provide the finishing touches.

Unlucky for Nunez with his 2 chances, one was a really tight angle did well to get it up and over.

Diaz is looking great down the left, just running at the defense all the time.

Jones is struggling a bit to get into the game.

Comfortable half though.

Playing well so far..to his credit Joe Gomez is playing well which we needed. Matip could of killed the game. Mac controlling things, Darwin working his socks off and could of had two and Szobo pressing and working like a machine.

A good first half. Both teams seek the counterattacks. There is space available behind both defences and we have been the better side finding them. If we get the same opportunities in the second half we should score more. We need to stay sharp defensively.

Very good half, thought Villa might offer us more of a challenge but we’ve looked comfortable for the most part (a few breaks aside). Nunez is unlucky not have another couple of goals. Get another early in the second half and put this to bed.

Villa can't be this shit in the 2nd half. Its basically been a stroll for our lads because there's no pressure on the ball. Hopefully, we come out looking for the 3rd and nit with any false sense of security here.
All that said, performance has been great, especially regaining possession quickly and getting to those 2nd balls almost every time. Just feel Villa have been absolutely garbage though.
