Haven't Chelsea been making operational losses for years, even when they were in the CL? And pretty much the only thing keeping them from falling foul of FFP has been making player trading profits? And possibly some dodgy Abramovich deals?
Now they've dropped out of CL and, by the end of this window, will probably have spent £650m+ NET on transfers in 12 months? They've still got big earners like Lukaku and Sterling on their books (both earning £300k+), and recently gave out expensive extensions and contracts to new players:- reported wages the likes of James (£250k), Fernandez (£300k), Nkunku (£200k), Fofana (£200k), Chilwell (£200k), Cucurella (175k). Apparently offering Caicedo £250k. Their commercial and matchday income is dwarfed by the other CL-competing clubs. Even if they've been giving sensible contracts to the 30 odd players they've signed in the past 12 months, it adds up. They signed FIFTEEN players last year, have signed another six this year and are still looking to add Caicedo, Olise and another midfielder/attacker.
How can there be even a semblance of FFP compliance? If they do get charged I hope they throw the book at them, CL bans and PL points deductions. Another "fine" isn't gonna cut it if a club is just going to flagrantly flout the rules.
