Some thoughts…

1. Great to still be in the tie
2. Dreadfully sloppy at times with that ball out of the back and into midfield
3. Midfield 3 can’t get near City’s midfield - not big enough, not strong enough, not quick enough, not been good enough with the ball
4. We have no pace anymore. We have some fast lads who could run 100m quite quickly but we don’t play with pace anymore and in games like this it shows
5. We desperately need another forward
6. Definitely need midfielders with presence, strong, quick, big - that midfield 3 tonight is almost too technical… they can’t play against this type of midfield and I appreciate it’s a cup game with few bodies available but I’d quite like to go through. I’d like to see Henderson on for Bajctevic
7. Phillips v Haaland should be interesting 2nd half
8. Gomez… he is so far from him peak. Only concerning for this game as it feels he is 4th choice now.

Been pretty decent overall. Had our chances and can hopefully take a couple more second half. Horrifying defensively from Gomez and Milner mind! (nice assist though) The sub might make us a bit better with a bit of luck.

Bit all over the place really. How City didn't score 3 is beyond me.

We're not clinical enough up front either though.

The less said about the midfield and defense the better,

Sky can fuck off with patronising Nat Phillips - lad is limited but is a good footballer. "He's now done a Cruyff turn at the San Siro and tackled Haaland" - He's a professional footballer not some lad pulled out of a hat in a competition.  Pissed me off Carra with that stuff.

Also midfield is a bit of a gaping hole, playing 2 kids and Thiago. Think Bajectic is doing okay though. Just they are so good in there.

Both teams are terrible at the back but the attacks have been rusty as well, to be expected first game back.

City always going to have the advantage in midfield which allows them to create more.

Comical City calling for offside on that last free kick.  There were at least 4 blue shirts behind our deepest man.  *rolls eyes*

Darwin should have done better twice.  Carvalho looked out of his depth until he scored, then he seemed our most positive attacker.  Gomez speed going to be more useful outside and Big Nat will eat Haaland up inside.

Feels like fair result so far.

They were the better team, although we had chances and have looked threatening on the break at times. Good to see we’re straight back on it in terms of picking up injuries.

Great pass from Matip in the build up to the equaliser. Where have they dumped our fans, top tier?

Clearly second best and made it difficult for ourselves misplacing passes inside out own half. Just so much slower and weaker than them.

Carvalho took his goal well but has been outmuscled almost every time he's been on the ball.

Nunez had a couple of half chances, you never know if he will hit the target or not.

Can't build from the back with this back 6, but it is what it is. Not point criticising given the players we have available and what they're up against.

We look just as likely to score, regardless.

Shouting match
Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium
There has just been a real row in front of me after a Liverpool fan in the corporate seats celebrated his side's equaliser.

A couple of City fans side to his left were calling on stewards, fairly bluntly, to get rid of him.

The calls went unheeded, much to the annoyance of the City fan. Now the Liverpool supporters are winding that fan up.

Very loud and aggressive.

I can not believe how much space Gomez was allowing Haaland before he was moved out to right back. So many times, Haaland just stood still or took one step & Gomez just trotted away, leaving him free.

Lucky to stay in the game in the first 15 mins. Eventually got into the game more, but at times the defence is like a hedgehog looking at the car headlights and some of the passing has been awful and therefore the front 3 aren’t in this.

Need Nunez to put one of his chances away, if he puts one away he’ll grab a couple.

Fun game to watch but pretty brutal at times. Defensively very vulnerable with every long ball looking dangerous, and weak defending crosses without Konate or Virgil. Elliott's looked well off the pace and, while Bajcetic looks neat and tidy on the ball, he's struggling in that position.

Nunez having a bit of a frustrating game.

Robbo and Kelleher have been great.

Chasing shadows for much of the game but we still created three good chances for Darwin (albeit one was offside through some bizarre movement by him).  They create that out ball to the left wing so well and we're fortunate it's Palmer and not one of their more productive players out there.

Bajcetic has struggled but it's pretty much City's first choice midfield.  Not much dynamism in there for us with Thiago and Harvey but some nice football when we do get hold of it for a few seconds.

Milly getting injured is annoying.

Robertson is really poor when he’s pressed. Has given the ball away so many times. They’ve made it very difficult but the defenders have got to have faith in the midfield 3 and give them the ball when it’s tight.

Definitely shows why we need new midfielders, there’s just no athleticism in there.
