Apparently the stadium is only about half full now (according to a Beeb reporter).

Great to see the host nation, when the host team is playing the opener in world football's showcase event, leading by example in how the modern game is "supported". Great commitment there from the home "fans". Just wow.  ::)

Immigrants relocate permanently, expats are working outside their country, but have citizenship elswhere. Since Quatar has strict citizenship rules, it's ex-pats all over.

He's been dreadful, don't worry though we've got Robbie Savage and Danny Murphy still to come.

On a brighter note ITV have McCoist
Henderson has been very good in patches and if he had the confidence of Shelvey he would be some player.

These up against a Van Gaal side will be tedious to the extreme.

Hopefully Holland win their first 2 and Senegal beat Qatar to render that game a non-event (Senegal/Ecuador played at the same time).

The more teams you have the more weak teams you have, although it works the other way in terms of making it less likely the big nations miss out. The 1994 World Cup for example, the last one with 24 teams, England, France, Portugal and Denmark (reigning Euros holders) all missed out just from Europe. Along with the Czech's (reached Euro 96 final) and also Yugoslavia for political reasons (which included Serbia/Croatia etc who were full of top players).

The thing with the opening game is it's usually a shite football match but the atmosphere around the game from the hosts builds the momentum for the tournament. Qatar just isn't going to do that and they're probably the worst football team to ever host the tournament.
