Haven’t got a clue those two, they’ve both included Trent.
Yeah you'd think given their experience with some of the greatest defenders ever that they'd be able to spot a defender who can't defend... ;D

Incredible player, we've been lucky enough to have the best centre back in the sports history and now we've got another who'll be a world beater.

Love him and his mad-cap (at times) defending.

Hopefully he is good to go now, and him and Virgil get a run of games together.

Please stay fit.

I hope he's not going to Qatar.

The aggression is so needed. He was following Oshimen everywhere and bullying him. Something we lack with VVD and Gomez as they prefer to try read the situation. Matip and Konate are front foot readers of the game they nullify so many attacks before they become a problem.

Yep, does everything well.

Keep saying I've not seen a better defender in world football than him, as you say a monster.

Such a calming presence.

Can imagine him going about whispering French sweet nothings in everyone's ear which even Trent takes to heart and calms down.

He and VVD are by far the first choice pairing. Every time he has played he has a calming effect on all of those around him (defence and midfield). Have to keep him fit and he has to start vs Spurs.

Awesome performance.

This is a really important point, they complement eachother so well.

Will be lauded for his physicality but it's the intellegence which stands out the most and is the main difference for me, constantly reading the game and assessing the play, weighing up the spaces and seeing whether he can cover ground ahead of him both defensively when snapping at an attackers heels/stepping in to intercept or advancing with the ball. I'd love to see him stay fit and provide a good platform for the side, great to see someone playing proactively as opposed to reactively and it seemed to give the whole side a lift.

Some lovely Matip-like runs with the ball tonight too, what a player!

The defence looks so much more assured with him and Matip partnering VVD. He hasn’t miss a foot even after such a long lay off overall. Great player for now and the future.

It's not a coincidence that we look at our best when the likes of him, Diaz and Darwin are on the pitch. They're the right age, hungry and haven't spent 6 years going into the well 3 times a week. More like him please. Lots more.

When he plays, our midfield has so much less space to cover, makes me think that despite the injuries in midfield that this season we're suffered from a centre back problem disguised as a midfield problem, or our aging midfield means we're now over reliant on Konate's pressure to keep the midfield functional.

He's incredible to watch, a true modern centre back, physicality and intelligence in equal measure, any forward would hate to play against him, you wouldn't get a sniff. If he can stay fit, then we've got a chance this season.

Potentially the best centre back in the league if he gets a clear run on injuries, the lads got a bit of everything.

If you have a defender who can carry the ball out from the back it helps hugely with overloading the opponent

Last couple of games you can see Klopp has worked on Virgil to do the same - see Marco van basten recent comments re this

Great partner for VVD, I think they both add confidence in each other. Should have been closer to Kane for his goal though, he was tight to him all game long... But you wouldn't know Kane was playing until that moment; a great performance overall.

MOTM Was everywhere. Snubbed out every threat. I thought his only error was not being tighter to Kane for their goal, but seeing it again I don’t think he could have done much more, just a good finish.

His anticipation is superb

Rock in defence. VVD + Konate is our best defensive partnership.
