Say we get Alonso as our next manager, should we extend Thiago's contract? Feel like Alonso would definitely want a player like him, if not his first name on the team sheet, with his football style. Maybe if he agrees to lower his wages?

Hate to be a killjoy but do you not think we play better without him. He just doesn't suit Klopp's style.

I think we become more "controlled" when he plays, a bit like Arsenal this season versus Arsenal last season

All our high scoring easy wins turn into nerve wracking 1-0 and 2-1 wins, and we're burnt out by season's end.

But hey we've 70+ percent possession.

We are yet to see him at the No.6 role in our new setup. I think that he will be the perfect option to rest Mac Allister for the last 20 minutes of the games, and control the game until the final whistle when we are leading ...

We’re you saying this when he was part of a team which amassed 90+ points and was competing for four trophies?

Thought Fab was more of the reason for our success that season, not Thiago, sorry but I'm not a fan of Thiago

He's been a bad signing in my honest opinion.

I'm very unsure about him coming back into the team

Steady! The post you quote is an extreme minority position and hardly worth noticing, especially as the poster doesn't supply any reasons for saying Thiago is no good.

You'd think the longer he stays injured the quieter the new contract talk would get but it just won't go away. We're a club that needs to be run efficiently to remain competitive, and giving a big contract to a 32 year old who's getting close to an entire year of being injured isn't all that efficient.

And no pay as you play largely isn't a thing and a player who joined us at the tail end of his career isn't taking a massive pay cut to stay, especially with the manager and coaches all disappearing soon.

The reason why Thiago hasn't played for us since April last year is a hip flexor issue that was bothering him for quite some time. That is why he had a hip surgery, and a long rehabilitation that followed. Of course, we don't know in what shape and form he will return for us in the coming weeks, but we are about to see it. So, lets see ...

One of the best players we have but he's got to be treated as a luxury player due to his injury record. I believe we shouldn't extend his contract as one of the highest players in the squad due to that. I would gladly keep him if he accepts a significant cut.

And do what with the money?? We are not short of funds by all accounts. We even tried to spend a 100 odd million to get Caicedo. At this point of time there is hardly a player available who will improve Liverpool team in midfield. The best option is to get Thiago playing for a couple of years properly. Last time he did that we played 4 finals effectively.

A squad player who can stay healthy would be a better option in my humble opinion. There are a lot of these players but it's up to the scouting team to figure it out (like they did with Endo).

Klopp may or may not have pushed for a new deal for Thiago and/or Matip. It's extremely unlikely either will stay now. Pay as you play deals possibly but Thiago could go back to Barca (or would have the Saudi option for big money). Maybe even Serie A which suits older players.

Can always put that money into new Trent's contract.

If Klopp was staying we would let him go. But if Alonso comes in then Thiago suddenly becomes more valuable that maybe it's worth it to keep him. The problem is we don't know if Alonso comes before Thiago goes.

Me too. In particular I’m looking forward to seeing him play FOR US.

Really don’t understand those saying he doesn’t suit Klopp’s style, considering it was Klopp himself who pushed so hard to sign him.

But of course, I should have learned this by now - people on the internet know our manager better than he knows himself.
