He wasn't a bad batter - at least at county level and at least towards the end of his career. But his reputation never recovered from ducking into that slow yorker. Can't recall the bowler....

Chris Cairns ? Wonder if they played at Notts together ?

They definitely would’ve. Cairns was way more senior than Read at that time.

Chris Cairns AKA Rimmer from Red Dwarf. First year of Test cricket on Channel 4. We ended it bottom of the world rankings. But did have that win when Alex Tudor scored 98* as a night watchman. Cricket. Marvellous.

I see that the Pakistan cricket team is back to being a clown show... going to be a fun couple of years with multiple captaincy changes and in-fights galore... ;D

England falling away a bit at the end of the innings. 165/6 with 10 balls to go. Buttler made 80 odd, but few late wickets. Obviously hard to come in and try and tee off from the start.

Decent performance with both bat and ball but the usual collapse is a concern, was it 25 for 5? Can't help but think a better opponent would have capitalised there. T20 though isn't it?

Looks like tonight's T20 will be washed out again which shows just how much of a genius move it was to hold T20 World Cup warm up matches in the UK...

We are technically in the cricket season. Should be able to hope for half decent weather at this time. But shite though, I wanted something to watch tonight!

Unlucky, as we've had about a month of really good weather before this, which ironically coincided with me buying a water butt - that's when it stopped raining!

Late May conditions in England aren't going to be representative of conditions in the West Indies and USA when the tournament is being held though. That's the problem. Preparation is rubbish just like it was for the ODI World Cup

Genuine question but what are other leading countries doing? Nowhere is really like the Windows. I think the top Indian, Aussie and South African players are at the IPL. Pakistan are in England with us. Is anyone playing games in the Windows besides the associate nations trying to qualify?

Don't think anyone is playing in any windows 😉 but surely you go to a place where the weather and conditions would be more dry and as close to the WI as possble where you'd actually be able to play some cricket rather than late May conditions in England?

Someone asked what other teams are doing at the moment to warm up for the World Cup?

Bangladesh have been playing in the US, even though they have lost to the US team
South Africa have been playing the West Indies in the West Indies
Australia are in the West Indies too
India will play one match in the Bahamas after their players have just played IPL for 2 months

England aren't playing cos it's too wet at the end of May in this country. These matches should have been in the Caribbean.

Bat out the overs sensibly they should get 160 and with their seamers that could be tricky in the gloom. Go well and they can still get 180. Couple more quick ones and they could only make 140.

I reckon they’d take 160 and will end 165/9.
