Good news today.

All the new contract stuff, and I married Mrs Verbose! ;D
Congrats. So you'll be getting an extension tonight, then?

So we're only guaranteed to win the title for the next 5 years

Should've been longer

It's been a shit day for the UK but a special day for this club, I'm ecstatic with this news. I honestly thought he was going to call it a day in 2022 and was hoping for a couple leagues + maybe big ears again before he goes, now I'm hoping for a dynasty. He's built one of the best sides in Liverpool and Premier League History and he's also just well a bloody top bloke. :scarf

New Klopp contract + New Nike contract (value linked to shirt sales) + 3 years x CL revenue = Mega signing in the summer

Exciting times

And the reason we love Klopp is that he actually does not need to make mega signings to do well, he's made two and they were astounding buys, just look at how he's managed to what he has on a comparatively low spend (relative to the achievement)

To see the reverse of this just walk across Stanley Park

Klopp has always said he doesn't want to be an old manager - I'm paraphrasing here as I can't remember where I read the exact interview but the gist of it was that he wants to retire while he still has his strength and after a few years out of the public eye he'd like to go travelling around the world with his wife.

That could be in like 18 years if he wanted. He’d only be 70, which for a fit guy with money to afford great healthcare and time for looking after his fitness is nothing.

I have loved reading this thread, full of positivity and happiness.

Jurgen Klopp, a decent, honest man, full of humility. That is a rare thing these days in a sport that doesnt bare much resemblance to the game I fell in love with back in the 70s.

Hes a fucking hero, although of course he would never use that word to describe himself.
Apart from the one obvious omission our managers have been outstanding human beings, they have that certain something that transcends football. We are so, so lucky. It would have been wonderful if Jurgen could have met Bill and Bob. Those three could have, would have, made the world a better place.

I'm sure religions have been started over less. Maybe in a few hundred years there will be people out in the asteroid belt doing Klopp fist pumps.

Heres to a good few years of succes. Enjoy every moment everyone.

The depth of character we demand from Liverpool managers is unrealistic, and can not reasonably be satisfied. How come we've had so many of them make the mark and more?

When I was twenty I hated the thought of being thirty.

You can't stop the ageing process though. The great mangers manage in their Seventies. Klopp is 52.

he won't manage when he's that age, he's been pretty clear about it - he has very very good reasons as to why. a) He gives everything to the job, physically as well as mentally, and he can't do that when he's older. b) he wants to get out of the limelight, where he just can't live a normal(ish) life, so he can just be with his wife and family, who of course are far more important to him than any football club.  He won't have any problem stepping away, he'll go all in for a few years, cos that is how he works, with everything, both physically and mentally, then he'll give it up for his family. He's always been open about it, it's not a secret.

I know fans like to think and hope that the club means more to him than anything and that it means as much to him as it does the fans, and that he won't be able to step away, but that's not really how it is.

But anyway, enjoy him while ya got him!

Players come and go, but the manager is part of the soul of the club. Klopp reflects what I perceive as the soul of the club, or what I would want it to be.
I agree completely. It's actually impossible for any reasonable and rational person to dislike him. I know fans of our bitterest enemies who think he's fantastic. We live in a world infested by liars and cheats. The selfish, the egotists, the narcissists, the duplicitous and the fraudulent. Klopp is none of those things. He is a passionate yet humble man. A person who brings the best out of others. A man who puts his faith in others and relishes their success. Where there is dark, he brings light. Where there is negativity, he brings positivity and hope. Not only is he an outstanding human being, he is also supremely talented at what he does. A human being of genuine quality on every level yet with buckets full of humility.

Klopp has put a gleaming monster of a trophy on the shelf for us to admire, but he's also brought the club and the fanbase so much more than that. The feelgood factor around the club these days is amazing, as is the confidence and resilience. The man is a giver rather than a taker, and in today's world that is a fairly rare quality. Of course, he clearly gets a lot out of what he does, but he lives and breathes for the game, the team, the club and the fans. If you could hand pick the qualities you'd like to see in a human being and also the manager of your beloved club, you'd probably come up with a Klopp pretty much every time. This man is the real deal, and we are as lucky to have him as he is to have us.

All of this is absolutely correct, and perfectly in line with what he has said on the subject. But I also understand what Al means. It's one thing to have 'when I'm sixty-four' plans and intentions when you're at some distance from that age, but when you get close you may well think 'no, I don't feel like stopping this yet'. Who knows?

I'm going to enjoy every minute of his tenure, hope it lasts as long as possible, and thank him from the heart when he leaves, while shedding a few tears. And none of that is about success particularly. I'd feel the same if we were winning nothing, because it's the man I've lost my heart to first and foremost, before the manager.

So, a few months ago when I spoke about Klopp's contract needing to be extended, people were sitting back laughing and relaxing that there's still some years to go and I said their behaviour is very much like the old Rick Parry years of Liverpool. Proven right with FSG far far from those lethargic years. Now, we continue to rule. You can't bring in players in the next 2 or 3 transfer windows and tell them to sign a 4 or 5 year contract so that maybe this or that manager will come in. Steven Gerrard? Love the guy, but he needs to prove himself before we even talk about him. We're talking about the world's greatest machine here, not giving the job to your favourite son.
Following Liverpool since the mid 80s.

Also heard Milly refused to sign unless Klopp signed first.

Think it was quite clearly the other way around.  :D

That could be in like 18 years if he wanted. He’d only be 70, which for a fit guy with money to afford great healthcare and time for looking after his fitness is nothing.

The interview Flon is referring to was with a German journalist. From the interview it was clear that Klopp probably wouldn’t be managing in 5 years or so time & would like to travel with his wife & children, after being out the public eye for some time.
