Thats because the Netherlands is sinking and they need to grow taller so their feet can reach the ground.

Delighted for him. Reminded me of another big Dutch lad who plays on the left side of defence.

Was it him or Hoever who ran half the length of the pitch with the ball when the Shrewsbury players were covering the passing options?

He was great tonight, won literally everything and looked composed. I don't think in his past couple of games he looked as bad as some have said, but you can see where his faults lie. Like I said though, great there, attackers barely got a touch for Shrewsbury.

Even though he had some first team experience in Eriedivise. I am sure playing against these type of teams was probably a shock to him in terms of physicality. He was fantastic for sure. When him and Hoever bulk up a bit I can see them making it in the first team squad.

Oh, he was fantastic. My MOTM along with Jones. Even Jones made a few questionable decisions, but van den Berg was spot on with everything. Won most aerial duels against the senior pros, this will do a world of confidence for him in terms of how he could cope physically. He's also not slow for a relatively bigger young player. The way he took charge at the back showed he was the leader at the back, while Hoever was the player who got more on the ball but did not lead in defense (the Gomez/Matip equivalent).

He’s had some less impressive outings so great we could see the potential last night
It’s so easy to forget how young these players ... like he’s literally just turned 18. He probably won’t hit his peak as a centre back for 6 years (!!!) or longer.

Impressive mentally, too, in that he did not allow the previous showing to transmute into self-doubt but that he had the ability to put a bad game behind him and show his quality.

Yep, while he'd struggled a bit in previous games, he's an absolute baby for a centre-back. Van Dijk made his professional debut two months shy of his 20th birthday!

There were a few moments during the game last night where he genuinely looked like Van Dijk, such was his calm control and assurance.

Don't want to get carried away though. He's still so young, and shows it at times. Very promising though. Very promising indeed.

His best game for us so far in his short career here. Would love to see his aerial duel stats because he seemed to win everything in his area. Long may it continue.

If he keeps this up, he may even get his name spelled correctly in the title. ;D

Haven't had the chance to watch the U23s, how is he coming along? He looked really raw still in the pre-season and very nervy on the ball but was dominant in the air. How is he looking for the reserves?

A good choice should Gomez and Neco want to leave Liverpool as they both don't have much opportunity to play for the first team. It looks like he has made tremendous progress in the Championship, is resistant to injury and can play CB/RB.

Another win and clean sheet for PNE today, doing really well under new manager Ryan Lowe.

Quote
SVDB is playing at a level higher than I think any defender has for us in the Championship since we were promoted. Cunningham (prime) and Davies were outstanding, but you can tell that Sepp is cut from a different cloth. I think he could essentially play anywhere on the pitch for us and still look good. His eye for a pass from right centre-half, not usually a position you'd associate with vision or playmaking, is incredible. He's quick, reads the game well, strong enough in the air and never seems to tire.

I know it's a big shout and and an early call but if he doesn't play a single game in the Champions League I'll be shocked - I've just no idea where that will be.

There was a clip of him earlier in the season - might have been the one where he was unlucky to concede an own goal - but his recovery pace was outstanding. I was very surprised because I didn’t have him down as being quick but then he’s a year or two older than when he was last in our youth teams.

From that same thread:

Sepp Van Den Berg is the best loan player we have ever had in my 30 years watching us IMO. He has been absolutely outstanding. His attitude to being on loan in terms of how he doesn't see it as short term but very much part of the team is a brilliant example to any young talent going out on loan. I'll be gutted when we lose him.

I am genuinley intrigued to see what happens with him next season.

He’s played a lot at right back for PNE as well, but now playing centre back under the new manager.

Versatile player like him could find himself a spot in this squad.

I would think it best for him to keep getting playing time somewhere as there unlikely to be open CB spot till 2023 or 2024 Summer(Matip Contract is up in 2024).
Loan to a PL team who plays good football like Brighton would be smart.
CB and GK are the two positions for young player where playing is important for going on loan then fitting is will be basically no issue. I would have to think Van Sepp has to be looked as a Potential Starter next to Konate but is he 20 and pretty sure none of the 4 CBs are moving till 2023 at the earliest. Loaning somewhere would make sense

The manager, Ryan Lowe, is a massive Liverpool supporter.
He seems like did very well as a League One manager and now with preston. Wonder if he on the radar at all to be a coach at Liverpool(I doubt Manager untill Klopp is staying longer)
