I think we'll go the full whack for the first 5 games. 15 out of 15.

13, draw coming in the Spurs match. Would love nothing more than to beat them after last season though.

If we have genuine aspirations of winning the League then we need to be looking at reaching 90 points, or as close to it as possible. 90 points is about 2.3 per game. Also think we need to be looking at 52-55 points from our home games if we are to put in a proper challenge.

We had 8 from 15 at the start of last season, and a CL qualifier in the middle of that. As well as the Coutinho stuff. We need a better start than that.

I personally would want 11/15 from those games. 13 would be amazing.

One one hand the start of the season is difficult - players are bedding in, no rhythm, players coming back late to pre-season. But everyone has that issue.

I would love us to spank Spurs but with them playing first time in their new ground, I expect a tough game.

Optimistically? 15

Salah to continue where he left off, Alisson to stop everything that comes at him, and Firmino/Mane/Keita/Shaqiri to cause havoc every week.

Realistically? 15   8)

West Ham (H) - 3 points and a good starting point to the season.
Crystal Palace (A) - 1 point. Owl face Hodgson will grind out a famous draw.
Brighton (H) - 3 points. Comfortable win.
Leicester (A) - 3 points. We should be well into our stride now and will be too strong for this lot
Tottenham (A) - 1 point. A tough game against a well-matched side.

Totally agree. We need to be getting 11 points. It would also be a very good total from a few tricky games in there. Palace, Spurs and Leicester away were all difficult last season for us.

11 would be alright, couple of tricky games in there. Obviously more would be great. 15 seems...optimistic. Not impossible, and it'd be great to beat Spurs in the first game at their new place, but felt they were pretty much the only team that actually looked better than us over both games last season.

West Ham (H) - 3
Crystal Palace (A) - 1
Brighton (H) - 3
Leicester (A) - 3
Tottenham (A) - 0

I have total confidence we'll win the homes, Anfield is becoming a fortress again. I think West Ham will have a good season but this is a good time to play them before they get into their groove.

Palace and Spurs are places we have mixed success - Spurs away always seems to be a bitch - how many times have we won there in the last ten seasons? It can't be too many. Annoyingly they'll have their World Cup stars well back in the swing of it by the time we play them.

10/15 is me being a bit cautious mind, would be hugely disappointed with anything less than that.

Get in. A proper "new season but normal weekly thread". I will be beside myself when the pre match preview thread goes up.

So hard to call these games without knowing anything about how those teams will be faring this season, which players will actually be playing etc etc but by god I will have a go !

Obviously spurs away is the toughest out of that lot but with the first 3 being games we should win I can see our confidence being even higher.

I will go with 13 points

I'm a little less optimistic than most on here as the opening fixtures look pretty tough to me. West Ham and Palace have both had good pre-seasons if you look at their results and I think pretty much all their players, new signings included, have been involved from the beginning of their pre-season. West Ham have brought in an excellent manager, made some good signings and will come to Anfield under no pressure. We should beat them but it could be tougher than people think. Palace will play their first home game of the season on a Monday night against us so that is going to be tough right from the get go. Again we should win but not straightforward, especially if Zaha doesn't leave. Brighton should be a routine win. Leicester hasn't been easy in recent seasons and they've made some good signings this summer plus they should have Vardy and Maguire in the swing of things by then. Spurs' first game at their new ground when their players will want to make sure of a win will be as difficult as you'd expect.

I think 10 points out of that would be pretty good going. 11-12 would be very good, 13-15 utopia. Anything less than 10 would be dissapointing but perhaps not the worst thing in the world as those fixtures would be out of the way early on.

I'm predicting 10 (W, W, W, D, L).

West Ham (H) | 3
Think it's lucky we're catching them first as I think they'll be a decent team once they get going

Crystal Palace (A) | 3
We have to beat shite like these if we want to challenge for the title.

Brighton (H) | 3
They'll come to defend and this'll be our first 'parked bus' team of the season. Have to win these at home.

Leicester (A) | 3
Don't see Leicester being as strong a force this season as they played at times last season. Hope to continue what would be a brilliant start.

Tottenham (A) | 1
This'll be tough but hopefully we can nick a point. Would love to absolutely smash these dicks after last season.

Here we go.  First 5 games.

West Ham (H) - 3
Crystal Palace (A) - 3
Brighton (H) - 3
Leicester (A) - 1
Tottenham (A) - 1

West Ham - they have invested a lot in the team, so they will try to outplay us, but they aren't aware what's about to hit them.

Crystal Palace - they'll try to hold it against us, but this season it's going to be much easier than last season.

Brighton - they are the new Norwich.

Leicester - this season they'll struggle massively, and they'll probably fight to stay up. An easy win for us.

Tottenham - no new players, bench quite average, and the luck of last season, this season will vanish. A win but not an easy one.

West Ham (H) - 3: Think West Ham will be decent this season, but also think the 57 signings they've made this summer might take some time to gel. Could be a tricky away tie later in the season but probably a good a time as any to play them.
Crystal Palace (A) - 3: Think Palace will be a decent side this season (read: comfortably mid-table), but it's Hodgson, so a relatively comfortable away win here.
Brighton (H) - 3: Think this will be a routine win.
Leicester (A) - 3: Still shudder at the thought of Puel and how many times he held us in check at Saints a couple seasons back. Think we win a close but tough one here.
Tottenham (A) - 1: Would go for the full 3 points if we were playing them in the first couple weeks of the season, but think by this time, they'll be starting to gel a bit and will want to open their new stadium with at least a point.

So for me, 13 points. Would be content with any point total over 10, however.

Realistically, I think City have raised the bar. That means we'll have to hit at least that 90 point mark to put real pressure on them. 13 would be a beautiful start, but still just below par by that measure. Which shows how brutal City were last season, to be honest.

To put it another way, we need some long runs of wins, not only long unbeaten runs. We're capable of it, but a good start would be very important.
