Apparently somebody tried to burgle his family home, and his response was to help the attempted criminal to find a job.
It says a lot that my initial reaction to that was to laugh, then pause and wonder if it was true :D

This is amazing.

It should be pointed out, though, that Torres played in a very different kind of team. Peak Torres in today's football climate would be scoring like Lewandowski, Cavani and Aubameyang. He was unstoppable.

also Torres had peak Gerrard to assist him, and Alonso.

Yes but it was a much more defensively-minded game then. Strikers weren't scoring 40+ goals a season then, that they do now with great regularity. And I'm not just talking about Messi and C Ronaldo.

Apparently it is true!

While the country celebrated him in the days that followed, it was revealed that Salah's family had been robbed when he was playing in the match. But instead of pressing charges, the forward instead gave the thief money and tried to help him find work.

Such a humble chap.  No showboating or bullshit, just gets on with businesss. Forget messi, his attitude towards the game reminds me of KK a lot.   No frills bloke just loves what he does for a living.

the game changed also with Barcelona style revolution and Spain adapting it... from two strikers up front to one for example... Like Rafa played, it changed a lot..

but i would agree peak Torres today had more talent than some top strikers today...perhaps because the overall quality of some defenders is worse than it was before...

Torres when healthy and young would be maybe better than Kane is now.

Wow. That's impressed me more than anything he's done on the pitch and that's saying something.

That's ridiculous, especially the Suarez part. Had to check myself just to be sure.

Although it must be said Suarez also had a lot of assists to his name that season, and no CL and a suspension, so way less games (37 I think).

Yeah he got 31 in 37 games. Salah currently on 23 from 29 games. Needs 8 in his next 8 to match Suarez

I think he was better than Cavani and Falcao, better than Aubameyang, maybe the same level as Lewandowski?

it is offtopic but up for a debate what is better? quality, impact or consistency?

he certainly got everything to be considered worlds best with us at that time... perhaps balon dor quality.

he was a complete striker who only needed one chance.

for me he was the best and if he stayed fit, he would be better than all those you mentioned.

but in Torres case he was great untill his injury and also Rafa left, things got worse for him mentally perhaps because he was part of Spain best ever generation and maybe prefered to win all on international level as well.. He was spent after the injury and never hit the heights he has with us.

so it is debatable what you consider better.

Salah not even being a striker to have only 6 goals less without prime Gerrard supporting him is nothing but phenomenal.

We are perhaps seing a legend of the game playing for us in his best years and only going to improve.

Klopp - LFC - Salah is a match made in heaven.

Today was the first time I've thought this, but I truly believe he's our best player now.

It's been Coutinho since Sterling fucked off to Jamaica for a two week break. Even this season, a tally of 21 by December from Mo didn't convince me - he's been at least somewhat dependent on service until recently. Coutinho, for the last 3 years, has had the unerring ability to just take control of a game and ensure we win, be it through a dribble, pass, or most often, a ridiculous goal. I wanted to reserve judgement on Salah's ability to do this for us, because Coutinho's done it repeatedly and in the biggest games.

But over the last few weeks we've seen Salah conjuring goals out of nothing. Wriggling through for a stunning curler against Everton, going past 3 against Brighton, going past two today, and then just casually holding Maguire off before finishing it Messi style. He's a pure and utter matchwinner, the best player we've had since Suarez. It is scarcely believable how good he is. de Bruyne goes first but he's the next best player in the league. Any other season and he's the runaway player of the year.

I remember fapping off on here when he held off Cahill similarly against Chelsea.

Yep, turning point for me was the Chelsea game there.

He knows this is a more physical league and so was using his pace, technique and brain to play around sides. He now trusts his core strength to actually hold off a meaty Premier League center back like Cahill, roll him and get a shot off on his best foot. Which is a probably because if you don't mark Salah tight, you are fucked. And if he can take the ball into his feet and roll you like Lukaku does also, then you are even more fucked.

They're Fucked!

It is something we associate with big powerful strikers. It is such an unusual skillset for a player like Salah to have and it will cause defenders a lot of trouble as most typical british center backs will be told to mark him tight and not let him control the ball and turn to face you. Yet marking Salah tight could be the worst thing defenders do now around the box.

Not sure how you play against that.

Klopp said he was limping when he was subbed. Said it's never a good sign.

Let's just hope it's just a bit of a dead leg or something.

Just watched game on MoTD and it seemed to me the dopey fecker did it in the knee slide after the winner.

He was doing it all game today and causing problems with it all game, it's not even as if it was just an isolated fluke. He did it to Maguire another time and Fuchs at least twice. Maguire is a fucking mountain of a man, 6'4 and 100kg. Drogba would have trouble.

Makes me think a lot of things I learned in martial arts, particularly ones like Aikido. You use the strength and size of someone against them with superior balance.

Drogba v Maguire is a case of who is bigger, stronger, more powerful. But Maguire was fucked because the more he tried to use his physical size and strength to his advantage, the easier it became for Salah to use it against him.

Second reminded me of that old trick Suarez used to love. Done in a different way but still

He used to love stepping back towards the defender knowing they would think he wanted them to take a step back too then as soon as the ball came in to him he would just roll them and accelerate away with the ball

Still buzzing from yesterday. Ignoring his touch and intelligence for a second, his strength yesterday for the second goal was unreal. I had the perfect view for it in the lower Main and it was incredible how he got the better of that fatberg (all things considered the fatberg had a decent game too). Absolutely love him even though Firmino is still bae.

Remains to be seen whether he can sustain his goals/assists numbers over a much longer period like Messi, but having said that, what is a realistic target for him now?, if his numbers declined slightly, would 30 goals for the entire season be a disappointment from this point?

League only or all comps?

I'd be disappointed if he finished on 30 for all comps.

If league only it would be an unbelievable return given it's only been bettered three times I think in a 38 game season (Shearer, Ronaldo and Suarez all got 31).
