Wales 0-0 Austria

'Liverpool's 17-year-old attacking midfielder Ben Woodburn is coming on for his international debut, with Wales needing a goal to realistically keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.
No pressure.'

We've just seen the benefit of having him train with Klopp and first team over the last year. With every day he's closer to being ready for us.

Imagine three more years  8)

We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

Funny, there is a Sterling's goal on this page that's a carbon copy of Woody's goal today.

Difference is Sterling's was deflected.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Lovely goal. I was just saying to my brother today that Woodburn is the biggest young talent we have at the club because he's already got more intelligence and composure than most experienced professionals. He scored a lovely goal against Bilbao in preseason. He looks like he's grown and filled out quite a bit too. Lallana replacement? Long-term of course.

He's ready

I think Klopp will take it a bit slow bringing him into the side.  He's a part of the first team squad, no doubt, but I'll be surprised if he gets many minutes outside of the cups.

There would have been a riot if he went on loan, let's put it that way.

Always hesitant to rave about young ones, but Woodburn does look incredibly composed for his age. He'll hopefully get minutes this season.

I've gotten my hopes up about too many young players in the past only to see them fade away but Woodburn looks like he could be the real deal. Fuck knows how he must have felt scoring that goal tonight, absolutely incredible stuff.

 Well in lad.

I must have seen that goal like 20 times and every time he strikes it I think the goalkeeper should save it, but it seems to increase in pace the closer it gets to goal, by the time it goes it's flying.

He needs to stay around the first team and get minutes when other players aren't available, a loan won't do him any good.

Yes, every month for the next 8 years.

Seriously though, fuck me we need another Owen / Fowler / Gerrard type to break through. TAA looks like an almost certainty to be a top class RB which is hugely exciting, seeing an attacker explode through the academy is exactly what this clubs needs. There's a good few other youngsters who have a bit of magic dust not far behind him too in Brewster, Kent, Wilson.

Add it to the list, scored on his debut for us too. Kids of that stature don't do that against quality opposition unless they're properly good.

Bale and Ramsey aside, he was on a different level from any other Welsh player when he came on, in an attacking sense at least. He had a couple of great little runs, put two good balls into dangerous areas that we weren't alive to and there was the goal, obviously. A genuine Roy of the Rovers moment five minutes into his debut, just after one of the best renditions of a national anthem you'll hear anywhere, ever. Magical stuff.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him as a regular in the very near future, though I hope Coleman treats him carefully and doesn't overplay him too soon - we're not exactly overburdened with talent outside the obvious names though, so he might be a starter rather sooner than I'd like.
