Wonderfully moving piece of writing.

Brilliant, brilliant read that, I've tears in my eyes.

I picked up on a quote at the beginning and thought I'd quote it in here but then reading the rest of the article, I found numerous other things that struck a chord with me that I could have quoted.

A must read for any fan.

I read this and I cried, again. My brother, a survivor from those central pens, says it's the most accurate & thorough article he's read. We've both shared it and suggested that if people only read one article about Hillsborough then maybe it should be this one.

My daughter, who is at university now as my brother was in 1989, said she wanted to share some information with her friends who are obviously too young to know much about that terrible day - she's going to share this one.

Thank you so much, I can't begin to imagine how hard it must be to write.

Thanks for having the courage and such writing talent to convey exactly what happened in 1989 and the cover up.

Needs to be read by everyone in the country and especially young people.

It can't fail to move people.

Maybe then it won't be allowed to happen again.

One of the best pieces I've ever read on anything. So much heart and soul went into that.

It also caused me to stop and ponder something obvious that I had somehow not considered -that there would have been further casualties if any of the decisions had gone the other way. Merciful justice.

Blisteringly good article. I think the greatest tribute I can pay to it is to say that I almost felt like I was there. There was such vividity and honesty to the prose. Brilliant article.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

That`s an incredibly harrowing article.

"He`s my brother". But he isn`t waking up. I can`t get that line out of my head.

If there`s only one piece of writing that a young person who doesn`t know much about Hillsborough were to read then I hope it`s this.

Hats off Ade, that must of been difficult to write.

The understated beauty and simplicity of your writing makes it so powerful, so compelling, so insightful, so achingly poignant and so unbearably harrowing that  it stands apart. Having earlier watched the only now available ESPN Hillsborough documentary I ventured to also read your piece. Both are not only outstanding pieces of work in their own right but also complement each other's representations and integrity so fittingly. Together they reveal aspects that are impossibly hard to bear but have needed for so long to be recorded so that nobody can ever be in doubt about the horrors of the day nor the evil that ensued.

As one who had also been in the central pens that day but never suffered and was actually unaware at the time of the extent of the horrors taking place [because my friend had a prior back injury we came back out of the tunnel and moved to the side pen at around 2-30 when it started to become too uncomfortable for him], I have always striven to defend our realm against the lies. For so long such attempts seem to fall on deaf ears.

Now, the vindication of the verdict and it's uplifting aftermath together with incredible pieces of work like yours are helping to heal wounds that have festered for far too long.

Thank you Adrian.

There is just so much in this piece that has shocked me, I honestly wouldn't know where to start. One of the best pieces on Hillsborough I've ever read. I feel so proud to be a Scouser, but equally ashamed that I live in a rotten Britain, where the establishment and the authorities have never been questioned. Until now, thanks to the bravery and sheer tenacity of those who lost their worlds on that day. And it came from the very top: that paragraph about how Douglas Hurd was ready to ask the chief of police to resign, only for that scumbag Thatcher to throw it out, was truly, truly shocking. Wonderful writing, thank you for sharing what is clearly harrowing to recall.
