I just hope the game itself is as
mental as the promo material, and the circumstances around its development instead of
Silent Hills. Who knows how much of that Konami-canned project has been able to make it into this one, but Kojima-san rarely disappoints when it comes to twisting folks' melons, be it for good or ill.
I miss when games tried their damnedest to fuck you up, at a tender age. 'Adult'-oriented gaming has sort of replaced that vibe a bit with loads of gore, sex and profanity, but you've had much fewer games creatively trying to drive you to insanity. The hand-holding culture that has rendered games far less difficult to work out mechanically (basically telling you what to do when and exactly how to do it), has also seemingly reduced the amount of major games that are just bewildering experiences in other aspects. I want this full game to be as hauntingly cryptic as I was anticipating
Silent Hills to be after
P.T. shit me up.
It seems to be inspired more by surrealist horror cinema than anything; I'm actually half-hoping it has no dialogue at all. Kojima might well be videogaming's answer to Jodorowsky/Lynch/Zulawski (with that unmistakable Japanese flavour, probably heavily influenced by Seijun Suzuki, Shuji Terayama, Hiroshi Teshigahara, etc.)!
