Oh shit, I hadn't thought that Slaven Bilic might want to get off to a good start. We're fucked now.

Genuine belly laugh. :lmao

Seriously though if we are going to talk about our record at Stoke then what is West Hams record at Anfield?

Hint: it's shite

They haven't won since 1963.

I know many are waiting in the wings to Jump at Brendan's throat with a knife as soon as things go wrong but if we can get 7-8 points here that would be a good start.

Based on our end of season form just gone, its so hard to predict how we will start the season.

Rodgers is going to be under immense pressure to get results quick.

I really don't know what to expect from this team early doors due to that pressure thats going to be on the manager.

Need at least to win those two home matches. Then try and nick a win away while desperately avoiding defeat in the other two. 11 points?

Yeah theyre a tidy side but we beat the best bournemouth in history with arguably one of the weakest liverpools in history last season.

I went for a point at Stoke because I think they'll be high on confidence after humiliating us there only a few months ago. I don't think Firminho will start and Benteke needs time to gel with his new team-mates. Unless Ibe starts I can't see us having too much pace now Sterling has gone and I don't think our slow build up play is going to work very well against a physical side. We don't have a player that will just win us a game from nothing (Coutinho verges on this sometimes though) so we rely on winning as a team unit and I don't think we'll get that understanding until at least September.

Its easy to forget amidst all the hype of our tough start that we actually have loads of great home fixtures the first two months, and having home games against all our rivals in the 2nd half of the season should be a massive advantage then.

The new signings might take some time to settle, and we should be revved up for the 2nd half of the season, so having the winnable away fixtures then too should be seen as a good thing. I actually like this fixture list to be honest, think it'll be positive to get the toughest aways out of the way early on whatever happens in them.

Hard to call. I'll go with 10. Narrowly lose to Arsenal, draw with Mancs. Honestly, I think we'll give Stoke and Bournemouth a hiding, and beat West Ham with a lucky goal. Glad we're playing so many of the mid- and lower-table sides while the Anfield pitch is still fresh.

My prediction:

If we manage 12 + we'll go on to challenge for the title. Tough fixtures, we'll have to grind out a few to reach that tally. I don't think any other side will manage more than that from the same fixtures even Chelsea.

6 or less and it could be a long season. It's clear we want to start strong, as seen by getting our business done so early. Should we not be able to start strong I can see negativity from the fans like the end of the season, new signings getting judged negatively too soon and Rodgers job at risk.

I'm hoping for around 9 mimimum. Would be a little above par for a top 4 challenging side. Any more and I'll be optimistic for the rest of the season.

Exactly. It's a decent set of fixtures. We know the opening is tough so we shouldn't panic in September.

If we're within 6 of the leaders at the end of October..... We're going to win the league!

Wouldn't be a bad start, maybe a point within par for top 4. 3 tough aways in there so not a total disaster if less.
Not just you but fuck me, how can anyone concede a loss at United before we have even rolled up in the bus?

Last year they jammied themselves a win because Sterling couldn't hit a barn door with a beach ball - since then we have added Benteke, Ings Origi and Firmino to our strike force, while they have flogged Falcao, Di Maria (soon) and RVP??

I shake my head sometimes.  I want 15 points and its do-able. About time we started doing the business at Arsenal, and it starts this year!

Would be pleased with 10 points from the first five.

I expect us to beat Stoke, Bournemouth and West Ham. Then I think we'll get a point against United. Maybe even three, but I'd be happy enough with one.

Arsenal tend to be a little too good for us at the Emirates, so I never really expect much from those games. We try to go toe-to-toe with them, and I love that, but if you want to out-football Arsenal you need to be really, really good - and I don't think we are quite there yet.

Bournemouth (H): 3
Arsenal (A): 1
West Ham (H): 3
Man United (A): 3 or 1

No reason to be pessimistic. 1st game of season at Stoke may be the best time to play time. And with a new goalkeeper, we should fancy our chances. At best 13 points but would be happy with 10/11 points

Yeah my sentiments exactly.

We gifted United 4th place with a shoddy red card and uncharacteristically slow start at Anfield that crashed our form to pieces.

United and City got away with shit seasons last year and we didn't even have a striker. Fuck that this year.

If I 'absolutely had to' settle for a point anywhere it would be at Arsenal or Chelsea, who I think will be toughest to beat away this year.

After Stoke (who also need a hiding), we owe United bigtime...

I'm backing Benteke to flatten their centre backs while 2/3 of Brazil's forward line do the Samba!!!

I think it will pan out this way.

Stoke - Liverpool (1-2)
A toughly contested match, but I think Liverpool will slightly edge it. Stoke has lost a couple of key players and the loss of N'Zonzi will be especially hurtful for their chances. I'm going with 1-2 to Liverpool with goals from Benteke and Lallana.

Liverpool - AFC Bournemouth (3-1)
Bournemouth will shock start by going one up at Anfield, but they will eventually succumb to Liverpool's pressure and concede a couple in the second half. I could see a 3-1 win with Coutinho opening his account for the season and Benteke continuing his good start.

Arsenal - Liverpool (2-0)
With both teams starting the season of with maximum points, this match will reveal whether Liverpool is title contenders or pretenders. Unfortunately, I see Arsenal taking this one. It is very tough to get points at the Emirates, if you go there and try to play your own game. Brendan Rodgers has never been one to abandon his style of football, so I see Liverpool being handed their first defeat of the season in this one.

Liverpool - West Ham (1-0)
West Ham has been making a few shrewd buys this window and they will definitely be a better team than last year. They will defend deep and focus on hitting Liverpool on the counter attack. In the end, Liverpool will win on a goal from a set-piece.

Manchester United - Liverpool (2-1)
Both teams will have plenty of chances, but De Gea will show why he is arguably the number one goalkeeper in the world. Rooney will score two, Henderson will get sent off and James Milner will get his first goal for Liverpool

In total, 9 points out of 15 possbile; not a bad start nor is it an ideal start to the season.

Knowing us it will be something like:

Stoke: 1
Bournemouth: 3
Arsenal: 0
West Ham: 1
Manure: 3

Can honestly see us getting a result in one of the harder fixtures while battling out a 0-0 draw at home to one of the 'winnable' fixtures.

Mate, I thought you were the voice of eternal optimism?

Stoke - we never do well there, jonathan walters, peter crouch, their ground, their bitter bastard fans, yeah. We should set up as a compact 541 and hope to get a lucky point from this.

Bournemouth - Eddie Howe. He's going tear Brendan a new one tactically, they were better than us in the cup last year, yeah I know we beat them, but they were concentrating on the league, yeah? They'll play well on our pitch and surprise us - we should drop the flair players for this one - keep it tight and hope for a point.

Arsenal - They're going to win the league with Cech & Sanchez, and with Lacazette and Pogba signing they've got everything, they're almost entirely French. French are the best. Mamadou should be playing for them, I really should be supporting them, but you know it wouldn't be as much fun, I'd have nothing to piss and moan about then. They're that good, yeah? No point in pretending, doesn't matter what we do here, we're getting beaten in London. Got to hope we grabbed at least one point from the first two or Brendan is under real pressure after losing here.

West Ham - Bilic. He's bossed us before, he'll do it again. One word; passion. Another one: fitness. Sturridge will start this and then lose a vital organ chasing a terrible ball from Lovren. He'll be out for the season and we'll be stuck with the new Andy Carroll looking lost upfront.

ManU - they'll have been invigorated by signing Reus, Muller and swapping DiMaria for Ibra - they're all German or nearly German - class everywhere. Schweinsteiger vs Lucas? Are you joking? We're finished.

End of the day I'm an optimist, but you're blind if you can't see what I'm pointing out, 3 points from 15 will be a good return, but only if Brendan wises up and plays a compact 731. I can't wait for the season to start, it's when we have so much hope.

Allez la rouge etc.

Just a rough prediction mate, could as easily be a loss to West Ham and beat United.

Just think Van Gaal is a better big game manager than Rogders and with home advantage they'll get at least a point. Looking over our record against sides that finished top 5 away from home under Rodgers and it would also back it up.

Of course the players will want 15 points, like wise the fans. As a prediction though I would say United are favourites for that game, like wise Arsenal at home and Stoke away is a 50/50. Let's not forget Stokes record against us at home. West Ham and Bournemouth are the two we should be strong favourites for. I predict both sides will be a level or two above most sides in terms of fitness as West Ham traditionally have been and newly promoted sides always are coming into the new season.

Hopefully Rodgers has planned the same way as we can't afford a sticky start.

On a positive note, if we can get out of that first 5 with 8+ pts I think we'll kick on with 10+ from the next 5 easily enough which would be a nice position to be in after 10 games.

This will be our toughest block of 5. Come out of this looking good and were in for an exciting season.

Would be great to see us scoring 4 goals in a game again. Can't of managed that too many times last season. Was almost standard procedure in 13/14.

We scored 5 at Stoke in January 2014 so why not?! I reckon Benteke will start like a house on fire, and the only pregame motivation needed for the rest of the lads will be a big sign with "1-6" on it. Stoke have lost Begovic, N'zonzi, and Moses too. Oh and did I mention they'll have Glen Johnson "defending"?  ;D
