You win games by scoring goals. Quite simply we don't score the goals to pick up points

I heard there was some French guy hanging around Melwood who is a quite handy defender. Probably just a rumour though.

I tipped 7pts before the start of this 5 game block and so far on course. I've no idea how the ManU game will turn out...2 teams not playing at their best, anything could happen.

Man Utd (A) - 0
Norwich (H) - 3
Aston Villa (H) - 3
Everton (A) - 0
Spurs (A) - 3

Just cant see us being defensively strong enough to deal with the two away derbies. Particularly if Lovren is anyway near them, which i fear he will be. We seem to be pretty good at beating Spurs away though. Norwich are relegation fodder. Benteke will definitely score against Villa.

We should try and sign him. He could play every week for us then. Who knows maybe he could play for France sometime.

We are not going to lose two games in a row. We're gonna kick them Mancs out of the park... and get a draw.

About 6 points maximum from those fixtures, can't score goals, and have a shit defence (I view the first three clean sheets as an exception rather than the rule), we'll lose to the Bitters, the rags and Spurs, 6 points is a best case scenario BTW, as Villa would probably beat us too, I literally fancy this Liverpool team to beat no one these days, we're really really poor.

Everyone is pessimistic now after getting Hammered (see what I did there.....I'll get my coat).  But I think Norwich, Villa and Spurs are poor and Everton and Utd are not great either.  It is strange but it seems the more money is p**sed away in this league the worse the teams are becoming.  More money than sense maybe all around.  I think we will get 7 points minimum and up to 10 points from the next 5, 2 or 3 wins, 1 or 2 draws with a loss or 2.
If we can get through this period up to the City game with possibly our 7 worst away games included, with anything like 21 - 25 points then we will be in a good position.  If we start playing better it would help too.

I think peoples feelings about the next 5 games are merely a reflection on 4 really poor performances (Arsenal first half aside) thusfar, we were rank against Stoke, Bournemouth and West Ham, I just don't envisage a massive improvement in the space of one game.

Shouldn't we predict the next 5 games after the first 5 games are up, if they overlap I tend to get a bit confused you see!

I think it's probably best to predict games in blocks separated by natural breaks such as international dates, FA Cup weekends, etc.

That doesn't really make sense though.  If we are looking to get 10 points out of every 5 games and you're breaking the games up randomly based on different breaks I don't think you'll ever see true groups of 5 games.

I guess you could group the first 4 games together, the last 4 games together, and then the rest of the league games in groups of 5.  If we do that then we are 1 point short of the 2pts/game goal.

Our next 5 games would be:

ManUtd - 0
Norwich - 3
Aston Villa - 0
Everton - 1
Spurs - 1

Why not? 2 pts per game. You're either +1, -1, or -3. All integer numbers that can be summed. These chuck of games don't come in 1s and 2s, so there is predictive aspect. But never mind, I don't want to derail the thread.

Lovren's getting a lot of flak on the back of the West Ham result but up until then I thought he'd been relatively sound. If anyone in that back four has made a limited contribution it has been Joe Gomez. As a full back (in a Rogers team) he should offer more going forward. I feel for the lad, he's a novice playing out of position with a massive amount of expectation on his shoulders. It's up to him to nut up, and make sure he does better to keep his place.
That said, I still think we'll come out of these games looking good. I really do! I don't fancy Spurs away but I can't see us losing any of the others, indeed I fancy us to win by the odd goal at Man Utd and vs the bitters. Villa will not be a close game, it will be a pedestrian victory for the redmen. Bring on the trumpets!

mancs-0 (Can see Lovren getting another chance before Sakho coming back into the side for next game)
Norwich-3 (Alex Neil's side will want to play football like Bournemouth. They won't sit back so we'll beat them here)
villa-1 (Crappy game ending in us coming back from a goal down)
everton-1 (Typical derby game. Can see a scoreless/low scoring draw like last year)
spurs-0 (They will beat us)

Why so many have Spurs (A) as a loss?
We are superb against Spurs under Rodgers.
I fear the other 4 games more than this one.

The next five games will be significant and very critical for Rodgers. He is under a considerable amount of pressure and will become increasingly more insecure as results go against him. On current form it is very unlikely that we will come away from Old Trafford with anything and it could be downhill on a steep gradient after that with further humiliation heaped on us by determined opposition in the form of Everton. Villa and Spurs, with the only likely respite being against Norwich.
The odds are well stacked against Rodgers, who effectively knows he is on his last chance to develop success. There is an obvious heir apparent waiting in the wings with a more charismatic offering, who's agent has just offered a coded declaration of interest in taking over at a non CL club with a challenge!
Rodgers most recent signings are not looking promising and there is no indication of any signs of radical improvement in the foreseeable future. The morale of the dressing room will surely plummet with each poor result.
Rodgers own confidence will suffer and he will start making irrational decisions in an attempt to break a poor run of form that was first exposed in the West Ham game when the luck that we had in obtaining results against Stoke and Bournemouth finally ran out and he hits a run of five games that will probably bring his reign at Anfield to an untimely end. He requires at least 9 points to survive.

All you below 5 pointers, you are negative ninnies. The whole point of the existence of both Tottenham and Norwich is a donation of 6 points to us. Where we have the "This is Anfield" sign on the way to the pitch, their tunnel sign says, "bend over, take it like a man when the reds are here". We will get more points from this group of five than the first. Whichever way you count the next match, either in or out of the five.

He's safe until Christmas at least unless the wheels really fall off.  It's all a bit premature right now but I do agree that any further poor results will put him under even more pressure.  A large majority of supporters are just waiting for a couple of poor performances and results and they'll pile on for sure.

I think we're going to struggle with the start we've been given, mainly due to our defensive frailties and the midfield I believe Brendan will field.

Stoke: 1
Bournemouth: 3
Arsenal: 0
West Ham: 3
Manure: 0

7 points, though I've given us the benefit of the doubt for the opening fixture, giving us an extremely hard fought draw.

Next:

Norwich (h): 3
Aston Villa (h): 1
Everton (a): 0
Spurs (a): 0
Saints (h) 1

5 points, possibly 7 at a stretch, with two home wins.

7 points. Though i can quite easily see us collecting 5 points.

7 points it was then. Though really we should be sitting with 4-5 points.

I think we'll collect 6 in our next batch of games. Home games will be a struggle for us in regards to breaking the opposition down. I sense we'll suffer a shock loss to either Villa or Southampton at home. Everton and Spurs away from home will of course be tough. This is not to forget we'll have the Europa League as a distraction.

Grim days.
