This is the first time since 2002/03 the league leaders have not reached 40 points by the half way mark. That season united won it with 83 after going unbeaten in their last 18 games (W15 D3). Newcastle finished 3rd on 69 and Chelsea 4th on 67. We missed out on 4th by losing at Stamford Bridge on the final day of the season.

It looks like we could be on for something similar this season regarding points totals. I wouldn't be surprised to see the league won on 80 points and 4th being as low as 67 again.
Very interesting point. It does seem very likely that there will be a plethora of sides on 60 plus points, perhaps more than ever, but high 60's being the likely 4th spot contender.

Consider Spurs who it is thought have had a really good season, if they replicated their form they end up on 70 points which one would think would guarantee them top 4.

Personally, I just see Leicester falling away and yet if they were to win 8 draw 4 and lose 7 of their last 19 games they land on 67 points which would most probably see them 4th. Bouremouth for them is an utterly huge game.

With the TV money in the PL and a huge chance at CL money I doubt Leicester would seriously entertain selling Mahrez, unless an astronomical sum was offered. Vardy is too old and too much of a one season wonder to interest big teams one would think.
I think the bit in bold is key - would Leicester be able to sell this story to Mahrez and Vardy. Not the CL money, but playng in the CL. Statistically, judging by the PL history, the Foxes are expected to finish no worse than 4th place after topping the table at Christmas. But stats can change... It's all important if those two will buy into that future. I doubt it, but I could be wrong.

There's scope for us to climb the APLT this GW.  A win for us puts us at -11 while Spurs and City can fall to -13 and -10 with respective losses in tricky fixtures.
Why won't you believe me?  Hang your head in shame.  You've cost us the match.

We had good wins at Chelsea, City and Southampton, and drew with Arsenal at the Emirates. I don"t see any game where a win would be unexpected.

That isn't how mockers works.  He stated that a win would do x,y and z.  That placed the mockers on us.  If he'd stated that we had no chance of winning, that would have brought reverse mockers into play.  However anyone openly stating that reverse mockers has been attempted reverses the reverse mockers.

Keep up!

West Ham away, Crystal Palace away, Stoke away, those are the kinds of teams we have a hard time beating, so much in recent seasons that we feel elated when we do, like we did when we won at Stoke on our first day this season. Why? Because it has become unexpected.

I've said "if we win then... " before plenty of wins too (more often than before losses) so you're going to have to try a bit harder to prove your "law" ;)

If we had lost to Chelsea, City & Leicester we'd be in the bottom half of the table. What's you point?  ;)
We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

Yep, even playing to par will take them past most of the clubs on there. And beating Palace away by such a scoreline suggests some kind of crazy-level new manager bounce.

We're gonna win the league...

Am I doing it right now?

(Putting the mockers on, but then reversing it by making it clear that I was... But maybe I reverse-reverse it by saying what I'm saying now. So maybe I need to reverse the reversed reverse-mockers?  ::) )

I'd say anyone apart from Leicester and Chelsea could win it.

Utd for example look terrible to the untrained eye but the APLT from this and last season shows very consistent title-winning form for all periods apart from that little collapse they just had. That's the first of it's kind since game 10 of Van Gaal's reign.

As boring as it sounds though I think it will be City.

It really doesn't. Was it you who was saying this a couple of months ago too? Wasn't even true then, and it definitely isn't now.

We had this argument about Utd last season (not two months ago) and (I think) I was proved right?

Basically you said their form wouldn't last (somewhere around game 20) on the basis that they weren't playing attractive football and De Gaea was keeping them in games. But they did continue that form and they did get 4th place. And De Gaea is still keeping them in games.

They had almost par form from game 9 to the end of the season, dropping only a few points from par. Not bad for a team playing terrible football. And this season look at the APLT before their crash. I will happily admit that crash is quite something else and I think that its due to either a) players just giving up playing lifeless football or b) the rest of the league working out their system.

I think the tactical system he was using was working absolutely fine whilst it lasted. It was simple Arsenal 1980s style. The reason people were moaning was it's just not typical United. And it is boring. But they were winning. Like a Mourinho side but using a different idea.

So basically last 25-30 games of last season and first 12 games of this Utd played almost to par.

They did better than I expected, but the line that they were playing to title winning form (may have been someone else who has brought that up a few times) just isn't true. A cursory glance at the APLT shows that and always has done.
