Steven George Gerrard of Liverpool and no longer England
« on: December 4, 2013, 10:21:21 pm »
I have been one of many to doubt him at times in last few years and stated when he had bad game, but he was great to watch tonight i just love when he gets forward. It really brings back memories for of young Gerrard arriving late into the box.

The 3 some of him Coutinho and Suarez delight to watch at time, also he seems to be delegating set play around at lot this season or is that just me? specially when we are winning by 2/3 goals.

Anyhow as we don't have a thread on him at moment thought be nice to praise him on his performance tonight. I will say though i was hoping he would of come off at 60min along with Suarez to be rested for West Ham game.

Last but least unlucky not to bag a goal tonight with that shot, with build play for him Suarez/Coutinho.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez admitted after the match that the manner of his side's victory had stunned him and he stated: "My problem is that I don't have words to express the things that I feel at this moment"

You may not get much of a response. However, the next time he has a bad game the lynch-mob will be out for him. It seems to be the way it works, unfortunately.

Great performance but why didn't he get taken off? I worry we'll see a laboured performance v's West Ham and that is simply poor management.

The thing I've noticed about Stevie is he completely dominates the midfield if he's given time and space like he was tonight. Was a great display from him but when teams press us higher up the park he seems to struggle quite a lot. He needs to find a way to get round that.

Great match, love to see him like that!

Even though he's sometimes struggling in the middle there, he's still got the most key passes of everyone in the league so far, the second most assists and the third most crosses (http://www.liverpoolfc.com/statistics/player-rankings). We need to find a way to keep him in the side without getting run over in midfield.

He's not Paul Scholes or a Pirlo who can dictate games from a defensive midfield type role. He's an attacking midfielder !

Was great to see him attacking today, always a threat in the oppositions half.

The greatness of Stevie as a player is he can still deliver even when he is played out of his best position, ie second striker.
When he is played there, that's where his greatest displays are IMO.

There's a lot of evidence to suggest that is his best position.

But he did run the game, from the middle of the park. I think the truth is he deserves to have guys around him to carry the physical and tactical mantle, as Pirlo and Scholes had in their later years, but that isn't the case for him. People never look at it that way. He is pure class.

It's the same circular argument all the time now because games against the crap teams at home, when he gets the time on the ball, are where he excels most now. He was good but what was the need to play him for 90 minutes with another game on Saturday?

West Ham aren't up to much but we'll need another good performance then. Everyone knows Gerrard can still produce good performances but if Rodgers insists on playing him every minute of every game then what's needed is consistency. He does have several indifferent and poor games now from open play.

Think only Ibra could of pulled that off. ;D

He needs to be benched for the next game. No chance he can play 3 games in a 1 week, he's 34 years old.

Suarez and Gerrard in Whoscored.com's top 5 players of the season thus far. Suarez is also #1 in the top 5 leagues in Europe - above Ribery and Messi.

Unfortunately so do the rest of our midfield.  Don't exactly have the quality to allow him to be rested.  Well not with any degree of confidence we'll pick up the points.  Then if we drop points without him Rodgers gets lambasted.

He did well, but against a team that were done after 25mins. Some great passing when he gets the time but everyone is great with time on the ball. Should have been taken off around the 60min mark. Rest those legs and keep him fresh. If we are going to have any chance of staying in close to the top, he needs to stay fresh.

Bring Back Sami.

Eventually he's going to have to take that risk, I think we need him more against West Ham than we did against Norwich - he really should of been taken off @ 3-0. Surely there is a reason he plays every minuted of every game? Is it some sort of fitness thing? As he hardly trains midweek.

Good game and agree he should be rested and provide an option off the bench on Saturday. Would also be I teresting to see how a midfield of Henderson, Lucas, Allen works.

You spam the forum with shite regardless of day/month or year.

The irony of that, a simple search of Gerrard and your username reveals 1000s of daft posts hammering a club legend and calling anyone who dares to stick up for him a "Gerrard fanboy" who "values Gerrard above the club".

John Mac was spot on about you. Hopefully you dont get this thread locked like you did the last Gerrard one.
