from the upcoming talents, do you expect likes of Sinner or maybe Rune to come to Alcaraz level or Alcaraz may dominate it for a few years?

Both will be great players but making that step to win a Slam is always tough.

I don’t think they’re anywhere near Alcaraz’s level. Mentally or skill wise.

Djokovic did everything he could and some of his returns were incredible. Alcaraz had to play his best to win and his mental strength was fantastic. It was a great game and it wasn’t really clear at any point who was going to win.

Brilliant final, absolutely absorbing. From a sporting perspective, it was great to see Djokovic have no answer to this 20-year-old kid's skill and mental strength.

Just hope there are some similar-level talents progressing through to give us another Federer, Nadal, Murray, Djokovic situation.

He would have beaten him in the French also if he didn’t cramp up.

Fair play to him today though on beating Djokovic on his best surface.

He'll always have a chance at the French if he can get himself fit enough. The older he gets though the harder it becomes for that to happen.

As for the equalling 23 thing, I see Djokovic extending the record sadly.

He is going to own Djokovic from now on. I cannot see how Djokovic could beat a still improving Alcaraz.

Djokovic will sadly win more Slams.

Can’t say he’s going to own the most successful player of all time just yet.

It’s still a ridiculous achievement.

That annoying CC stat was also broken today too.

Djokovic got knocked out twice in 2016 and 2017 (think he retired that year) and then there was Covid in 2020.

No one. He just beat the best grass court player in history at the peak of his powers on his own worst surface. Only injuries can stop him. Rune and Sinner don’t have anything like his level in their locker.

Sinner has held his own against him in their match-ups. Beat him in Miami this year and had a MP against him at the US Open.

Alcaraz will easily dominate the sport for the next decade or so, but I can see Sinner beating him in the odd Slam semi-final/final every once in a while. Alcaraz does not like playing him at all and is yet to have an easy encounter against him.

Sinner needs to grow into his body though. Feels like he is a few years away from his prime. His serve needs work and if Cahill can't fix that or elevate his game to another level, he should look for a new coach.

Lots of bad line calls by officials yesterday. I don't understand why a player needs to challenge whether it was out when these things could be automated and 100% correct. They use it effectively in football and cricket (check for goals or boundaries/catches), why not for tennis

Truth be told, if Hurkacz was not making dumbest errors, he could have won 3-1 against Djokovic few rounds ago.

I think this is the tournament Djokovic actually showed signs of clear regression.

Definitely, some very poor unforced errors in the final for a player of his class.

Really enjoyable final. Djokovic was taking the piss with his time wasting antics,  maybe Alcaraz wasn't forceful enough with any complaints. This was maybe was down to his respect for Djokovic and only being 20.

Of course it should also be the umpires job and he was shite.

With the way players look after themselves this day, it's hard not to get excited by the prospect of us having found this generations all-time great in Alcaraz.

Towards the end of the second set, they were both over the 25s allowed.  I found it pretty tough watching, to be honest.  It's a bit like when players keep dropping to the floor and wasting time in footie.

Alcaraz was at 27s, and Djokovic 33s.

At this point it feels like it's inevitable. Roland Garros might hold out a bit longer, since they're still not allowing players to challenge electronically. All tournaments will still need line judges around in case the system fails, as it did not long ago at one of the North American tournaments, which caused a bit of a delay. I'm not sure how I feel about it - I don't really like those electronic calls but I guess it's something you get used to.

Yeah, he was bad at it too.  One of the reasons I couldn't warm to him either.

I struggled to watch the final yesterday, due to the time between points.

It's one of the reasons why I liked Federer so much, no timewasting between points.  Toss the ball up and away you go.  It's why the game flows more with those types of players.

I much prefer a quick game of tennis.

His best win was against Tiafoe in the Quarters. Then beat Dimitrov in the Semis and Griekspoor in the final who had knocked out Taylor Fritz.

Up to a career high ranking of 21 as well. Really pleased for him, he's been having a pretty awful year so far. Maybe he hasn't won as much over the years as he could have done if he'd got his act together when he was younger but I've always enjoyed watching him when he's on it and fair play to him for the way he's rebuilt his career.

29 winners and just 3 unforced errors in the final! He did well to deal with an unfortunately timed rain delay when he was well on top too.

Another amazing final between these two. Djokovic was a set and a break down, saved a match point in the second set himself, but the third set alone was longer than most matches these days. I thought Alcaraz would win after coming back from a break down and saving so many match points, but Djokovic somehow found a way.

Shame Alcaraz didn't turn up a few years ago, these two could have had quite a rivalry, now it's just a matter of time until Djokovic won't be able to compete any more.

One of the best ATP Masters finals I’ve ever seen that. Really exciting having Djokovic still at this level to compete with Alcaraz, means we’ll see plenty more of these type of matches from them at least this & next year hopefully.
