Still cant understand the decision to close the wheel for another hotel in Manchester.  My parents era but I've been going to a few of the sunday sessions in there and for such a historic place it seems a waste.  Was always packed aswell.

I used to work in holiday sites many years ago and we would hold a Northern Soul weekend once a year. Always thought they were a strange bunch, they wouldn't really drink anything other than water and they would bring out bottles of talc or salt and spread it all over the dance floor and just dance the night away until about 5am.

On BBC Iplayer...excellent Doc by the BBC's main economic reporter Robert Preston on Northern Soul and Wigan Casino..he was there and a 'believer' ...he covered most basis..and very bravely danced!....but IMO  missed one crucial factor, the floor at Wigan Casino,  it was sprung, fucking great for dancing...( and pogo-ing!  ;))

Northern Soul, a great, if not the greatest northern working class youth music culture scene...and the music still makes you want to dance!

Just been to see Northern soul.  Definately worth a watch.  Went with the old ones who knew every fucker in the cinema who said they got the atmosphere down pretty well and they loved it.

There seems to be a move afoot to make Gloria Jones' original version of Tainted Love the Xmas number one instead of whatever shite gets thrown overthe sides of the XFactor muckcart for the baying hordes to consume.

Yeah was a fair amount of focus on it, but doesn't ruin the film.  Something they went with to add to the story a bit.

Granada made a documentry on Wigan and the clips are well known but did you know that a young Ray 'Shanklyboy' is dancing in one of the best known clips? He loved his northern soul and was part of the scene.

Looking forward to seeing the movie. I'm usually a bit apprehensive about movies on things close to my heart, especially with a nostalgia angle, but I think this will be good.
I heard Elaine Constantine (writer/director) on the radio the other day, and she sounded like a cool lass. She was a regular all-nighter-goer back in the day too, so she knows what it must have been like.

Was listening to Greg Wilson the other night on The Anfield Wrap, talking about how Liverpool was more of a funk city during the 70s, largely due to the influence of a couple of DJs who's names escape me. Thought it was very interesting.

I got into it through a small soul club a few mods in my town used to run in the mid-late 80s. There wasn't much going on in Ireland at the time, so it was always something to look forward to on a Sunday afternoon.
